EVENT LOG: ENTER MR SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)
characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same
in your closet, in your head.
It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.
Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.
Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?
Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

ambrose spellman ( ota )
Well, this is bad.
( for a second, ambrose considers going to the church because had everyone just died? had people just died in front of him and were about to come back to life in a big way?
something tells him that this is different though. he leans over towards someone nearby and he can feel them still breathing. a hand in front of their nose confirms it. he stands, looking around at the people still awake and the people asleep. )
Did I miss a schedule naptime? ( look, he's trying not to panic. )
▶02. SPIRIT INVASION
( he's helped move a few of the sleeping people to safer places but he's found that his talents are more useful in dealing with spirits who really do have bad attitudes.
he sticks to spots with a lot of places to hide and that's where he is now, ducked behind a building while he catches his breath. he can hear things going on around him, noise and the sound of metal against metal and people yelling and organizing things.
it's chaotic. one particular noise catches his attention because it's close and ambrose mutters an incantation low under his breath before swinging around the side of the building and raising his arms, magic ready to be thrown when he realizes it's not a spirit but someone else who's living in beacon. )
I nearly turned you into dog treat!
( he'd been preparing to do something way worse than that. he shakes his head and drops his hands. )
▶03. WILDCARD
( feel free to throw other scenarios at me. i'm at

[a surprise noise escapes Akira's mouth as this mysterious spell-slinging stranger leaps out in front of him. on instinct, he jerks back, adopting a defensive post as his coattails flutter behind him. but it only takes a second for him to realize that this guy isn't an enemy, and he forces himself to relax as his expression turns apologetic]
[he can't blame the guy, after all. tensions are high and there are enemies everywhere. they have to be careful]
[but even so, Akira can't help but comment, his tone both dryly humorous and bewildered]
. . . woof woof?
[HUMOR IS HOW HE COPES]
no subject
( he gives akira a look before shaking his head and reaching out to grab him so he can pull him behind the building and out of sight. )
What are you doing, wandering like that?
no subject
[that response is delivered rather dryly, so dry it's hard to tell if he's being serious. AKIRA PLEASE]
[but anyway! Akira also darts behind the building with Ambrose's urging, pressing himself close to the wall as he crouches down. he looks a little too comfortable in this position, actually]
I was making sure everyone made it somewhere safe. I'm not sure if everyone here is capable of fighting or not.
no subject
( which was good. )
You're all right? Has any of those things...managed to get to you?
no subject
Thanks.
[should Akira be proud?? he feels a little proud. mostly amused, though]
I'm fine, though. I've mostly been bolting whenever I run into one.
[and he might have a few scratches on his cheeks are arms, but otherwise? for now. . . he's still in one piece]

They seem to be knocked out.
[Her ears perk up at the sudden sound coming from the forest and she stops moving. The prickling feeling across her skin is not because of the chill wind.]
...do you hear that?
no subject
( but he really wishes he didn't because whenever someone asks a question like that, it's usually followed by bad news. )
I do but I really wish I didn't. I really wish these people all just drank too much and passed out. That would be preferable.
no subject
Not all wishes come true, sadly. We need to take cover before-
[-before masked spirit shows up that just showed up. Can he fight?]
-move. Now.
no subject
( it takes him a minute to realize why and when the hair on the back of his neck stands on end, he throws up a quick warding spell, providing some protection to a few people before sighing. )
I'm dead. Can't I rest in peace?
no subject
[she has several blades summoned between her fingers-]
No rest for the wicked. [She tilts her head at the spell-] How long can it last? [Long enough for them to move the others to the inn? It's the closest.]

Her eyes widen and, on pure instinct, she jumps back, knife brandished.
...oh! ]
Yikes. Um. Hi. [ Ellever offers a shaky smile. Her eyes are grey and cloudy, but otherwise, she seems normal. For normal senses, at least. ] Thanks for not doing that? I don't want to be bite-sized.
no subject
You're welcome. I would have changed you back if I had but it didn't happen so we're all good.
( whew. )
What are you doing out here?
no subject
I'm trying to find anyone who needs a helping hand. Hard to drag a body and beat back spirits. I did that earlier. No thanks.
[ Well, she hadn't dragged Castiel, but she'd half-carried him. He was taller; it had been inconvenient. ]
What about you? There's a group starting to reinforce the Invincible.
no subject
( the people heading towards the invincible, at least. it had been easy to predict what they were doing and he'd gone out to try and keep the flow of spirits from becoming too bad. )
Just trying to take a few of these things down so there's less crawling all over people who can't defend themselves. They're nasty little things. Not nice to look at either.
no subject
[ She's smiling as she glances from side to side quickly, trying to get a measure for if something's trying to sneak up on them. Ellever only has melee range, and that's risky when you're fighting things like these. She misses her gun terribly. ]
Yeah, no, they look like what those haunted house performers wish they looked like. [ So saying, Ellever's never actually been in one. Too sheltered when she was young, and disinterested as an adult. She's just seen footage. ] Except you can actually punch these guys.
[ She holds up a hand. Her knuckles are becoming bruised, but it doesn't bother her. ]
They're solid, too.

[Quentin comes a sudden stop, and the travois strapped to his waist pushes him forward a little and his bow is up, the arrow nocked and the spell for making it fly true is on his lips even before Ambrose stops talking. He hisses back, an agitated whisper-]
Shhhh! Be quiet! There's one coming up behind me- small, too many legs, teeth.
[He pants it out, getting down on one knee to take aim just as the thing careens around the corner. It's eerily quiet as it climbs closer on stilted legs, it's bloody maw hanging grotesquely open and revealing a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.]
Fuck!
no subject
Shoot it, man! Shoot it before it...does something to us!
( he doesn't want to become some gross little thing's dinner! )
no subject
[He moves his fingers through the small tut, drawing the arrow back just as the thing jumps forward, letting out an inhuman shriek like a thousand nails getting dragged down a thousand chalkboards and Quentin lets the arrow fly.
It soars through the air and slams in to the gaping mouth, the creature falling sideways as it keeps screaming and flailing it's limbs around.]
So- hey? And also, I don't have that many arrows. Do you have,uh, a sword or something? A knife?
no subject
( he trails off and wiggles his fingers. )
Been using magic and running, mostly. I don't tend to carry weapons because what I have is usually sufficient. Guess I should invest in something sharp and pointy.
no subject
I've been trying not to? Because, uh, I don't want to run out? Or, you know, not have enough in case something really big shows up. But yeah? Probably? I mean, if there was ever a time for sharp and pointy things, now would be it?

[ Steve's got no idea what the other guy is talking about, but he's just as startled to see someone whirling around the other side of the building with their arms up like they might be ready to attack him.
Of course his hands look to be empty, but then he'd just said something about — wait, what? ]
You were gonna what me?
no subject
( not that steve looks anything like those spirit things but he's a little on edge! )
I didn't do it though it's all good. It's fine, we're fine, no one's a dog treat.
( see, everything was fine! )
no subject
[ Does Steve sound a little bit sarcastic, his tone a little biting? Naaaah .....
There's also the fact that he's not a hundred percent sure this guy is literally talking about turning him into a dog treat. Not that he wouldn't believe him if he said so, he's friends with a girl with psychic powers, but dog-treating things is kind of a weirdly specific power.
He quickly shifts over to Ambrose's side of the building. His heart is still racing. ]
You got any other tricks up your sleeve? Maybe something we can use against those things?
no subject
( certainly not making friends with those things. he gestures steve closer and, once he does get close enough, throws up a protective spell to give them a barrier against those nasties. )
And before you say something sarcastic, I've been trying to keep them busy or at least take a few of them down before they took someone else down.
