EVENT LOG: ENTER MR SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)
characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same
in your closet, in your head.
It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.
Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.
Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?
Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

Her eyes widen and, on pure instinct, she jumps back, knife brandished.
...oh! ]
Yikes. Um. Hi. [ Ellever offers a shaky smile. Her eyes are grey and cloudy, but otherwise, she seems normal. For normal senses, at least. ] Thanks for not doing that? I don't want to be bite-sized.
no subject
You're welcome. I would have changed you back if I had but it didn't happen so we're all good.
( whew. )
What are you doing out here?
no subject
I'm trying to find anyone who needs a helping hand. Hard to drag a body and beat back spirits. I did that earlier. No thanks.
[ Well, she hadn't dragged Castiel, but she'd half-carried him. He was taller; it had been inconvenient. ]
What about you? There's a group starting to reinforce the Invincible.
no subject
( the people heading towards the invincible, at least. it had been easy to predict what they were doing and he'd gone out to try and keep the flow of spirits from becoming too bad. )
Just trying to take a few of these things down so there's less crawling all over people who can't defend themselves. They're nasty little things. Not nice to look at either.
no subject
[ She's smiling as she glances from side to side quickly, trying to get a measure for if something's trying to sneak up on them. Ellever only has melee range, and that's risky when you're fighting things like these. She misses her gun terribly. ]
Yeah, no, they look like what those haunted house performers wish they looked like. [ So saying, Ellever's never actually been in one. Too sheltered when she was young, and disinterested as an adult. She's just seen footage. ] Except you can actually punch these guys.
[ She holds up a hand. Her knuckles are becoming bruised, but it doesn't bother her. ]
They're solid, too.
no subject
( he gives his fingers a flick and a puff of dirt around his feet flies up, twirls itself around his hand and then drops again. )
Handy when you don't want to get gross goo all over your skin. Not that I'd mind that, I've had worse but just seems safer to keep some distance between these things.
no subject
Yeah, uh, they do feel funky. I don't blame you.
[ She pauses, trying to resist, and then: ]
Do you mind if I ask how you do that?
no subject
( it's getting easier to just say these days. he's not keeping it a secret because he's dead so who cares, right? )
Or a witch if that words makes more sense. It means I've magic that I can control and use.
no subject
That's cool! I haven't seen a lot of magic in action. [ She glances down wryly at her knife. ] Before I got this all I could do was kick them, punching doesn't do a whole lot.
[ Ellever hadn't imagined, before now, that she'd be punching spirits. It's a lot to take in, whenever she gets the chance to digest it. ]
I'm Elle, by the way. Elle Brandt.
no subject
( because he'd never had them. )
Ambrose Spellman. I'd say it's a pleasure and all but this is a terrible time to meet because we can't sit, chat, get to know each other. I suppose fighting disgusting creatures is certainly an unique way to meet, though.
no subject
Yeah, I'll always remember when I met you, because my arm was covered in slime. [ Ellever shakes her head. There's a high chance she won't forget his name, at least, like she has a tendency to, because of how memorable the situation is. ] Really convenient.
We should fan out. Two heads are better than one and all that. Unless you want to keep looking for people just on your own.
[ Ellever shrugs. Either way, but another pair of eyes wouldn't go amiss, to her. ]
no subject
Do you have a plan on where to go? Offensive or defensive? Look for people or attack these things?
( going with the flow probably wasn't the best for a situation like this. )
no subject
Let's... stay defensive. Look for people.
[ Working in security at least gives her productive ideas. ]
I don't think going on the attack will help anything, these things just — seem to keep coming. Sound good?
no subject
( he doesn't necessarily want to go full frontal assault on anything either. he's been a solider of a sort before in his ninety plus years but he still prefers to just be hands off and enjoy himself in other ways. )
You new here? ( he doesn't recognize her but maybe he just hasn't been as out there as usual. ) Might as well chat while we walk, right?
no subject
[ A feeble attempt at a joke, with an accompanying smile, as Ellever cautiously picks her way around a corner and leads the way. She nods. ]
Yeah, I've only been here since the start of the month, so I guess I am. It's, uh, been an interesting adjustment. What about you? How long've you been in Halloweentown?
no subject
( hers was obviously better. )
Awhile now, to answer your question. I don't think I was one of the first here but I was among them. There were only a few natives here when myself and others got here. It's been...a challenge.
no subject
Well, yours is accurate, I think. According to everything I've been able to read here.
[ Oh, but Ellever doesn't really want to think about that, because if she's dead... a lot of bad things probably happened back home as a result. Even if the person who killed her did so with the best of intentions, they'd probably just made things worse. ]
That long, huh? [ Is she supposed to offer condolences? She kind of wants to. ] Got any tips for a newbie?
no subject
( which isn't great advice, he knows. he sighs. )
I've been doing my best to be positive. To think of this as a challenge and since this isn't what my afterlife is supposed to be, I'm trying to convince myself there's more to life than this.
