EVENT LOG: ENTER MR SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)
characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same
in your closet, in your head.
It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.
Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.
Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?
Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

[ Steve's got no idea what the other guy is talking about, but he's just as startled to see someone whirling around the other side of the building with their arms up like they might be ready to attack him.
Of course his hands look to be empty, but then he'd just said something about — wait, what? ]
You were gonna what me?
no subject
( not that steve looks anything like those spirit things but he's a little on edge! )
I didn't do it though it's all good. It's fine, we're fine, no one's a dog treat.
( see, everything was fine! )
no subject
[ Does Steve sound a little bit sarcastic, his tone a little biting? Naaaah .....
There's also the fact that he's not a hundred percent sure this guy is literally talking about turning him into a dog treat. Not that he wouldn't believe him if he said so, he's friends with a girl with psychic powers, but dog-treating things is kind of a weirdly specific power.
He quickly shifts over to Ambrose's side of the building. His heart is still racing. ]
You got any other tricks up your sleeve? Maybe something we can use against those things?
no subject
( certainly not making friends with those things. he gestures steve closer and, once he does get close enough, throws up a protective spell to give them a barrier against those nasties. )
And before you say something sarcastic, I've been trying to keep them busy or at least take a few of them down before they took someone else down.
no subject
[ Admittedly, Steve's got very little experience where magical powers are concerned and the whole thing (along with being under attack by green-eyed creepies) is making him jumpy. What little he'd seen of El's powers mostly involves objects being flung around, maybe some levitation and ... limbs getting blown off, that kind of thing.
(And thankfully he'd been at a safe distance from any of the first-hand effects.)
Steve doesn't exactly feel different, but something just happened and like any reasonable teenager, he's freaking out ... while also realizing that they don't have time for this. There's a lot at stake here.
Okay, okay, he'll freak out later. ]
All right, you're gonna keep doing what you're doing. With the — [ Steve waggles his fingers. ] — you know. But I'm gonna need a weapon or something. What do you know about these things? Any weaknesses?
no subject
( it's just talk. he doesn't plan on removing it because he doesn't need anyone to die in front of him. )
I haven't really gotten close enough to check for weaknesses. I just try and keep them away from me while I'm moving away. But, if you need a weapon, we should head for the armory. Can you make due with a stick or a rock or something until then?
no subject
He's not about to shoot any kind of protective gift-horse in the mouth, not when he'd seen what those ugly creepy monster-things look like. They'd shred him like ribbons — easy, and he'd really, really like to avoid that for the next ever. ] Still kind of getting used to the whole magical powers thing.
[ Though he imagines they sure come in handy. Whether they're worth the hardship and torture to get them, however, is another story. He hopes this guy didn't endure the same kind of thing Eleven did to get where he is now. ]
Armory — got it. Yeah, I'll be fine until then. [ He's already scanning their immediate surroundings for something he might be able to use.
Hey, like that kind of okay-sized plank of wood that might have been part of a building once. It's jagged at the ends and doesn't seem especially sturdy, but it's better than nothing and nothing isn't an option right now. ]
Might not get more than a couple hits, but between this and your superpowers, we should be good to go for now.
no subject
( but please do continue, steve. he does like thinking of himself as a superhero. )
You seen any of these things yet? The things that decided to ruin a very nice dinner and make it so I couldn't get myself nice and drunk tonight?
( ambrose hates them just for that reason alone. )
no subject
Yeah, and I regret it already.
[ He readjusts his grip on the plank and shakes his head in response to the guy's question. ]
I don't know whether I want to see them or not. I don't even know how many there are or why they're bent on wiping us out. But they're the ones who fucked with half of the town's minds, right?
no subject
( these things were bad enough but thinking of them as lackeys was even worse. )
Suppose it could be true but I'm going to try and forget that I thought about that.
no subject
You and me both, man. Based on previous experiences, I'm gonna say that's pretty possible. Maybe they don't work for someone, but there could be a ... I dunno, a Mother Monster or something.
[ A main host, as it were.
Ugh. ]
One thing at a time though, okay? We deal with whatever tries to get into that bar first and keep them from doing that.
no subject
( a good idea. he nods, exhaling out a breath and flicking his eyes around to see if there was anything headed their way. after a few moments of silence, he glances over and asks: )
Previous experiences?
no subject
[ Literally man-eating, if what the others had been saying was true. The Mindflayer made a monster made of ... people. A bunch of melted people.
Yep.
That'd been his life. ]
Anyway, this one monster ... might be how I ended up here.
no subject
( well, that sounds —
disgusting. )
That monster killed you?
no subject
[ Steve shrugs a shoulder.
This is where things get a little foggy in his memory. ]
It's ... kind of a long story. Last thing I remember, I was crashing my car into this other guy's in order to save my friends; he was controlling that thing. Dustin and his friends called him the 'Mindflayer'.
no subject
( well, isn't that a pleasant name? ambrose doesn't think he's making it up because he's seen some shit in his time but still. mindflayer is a terrible name which is perfect for a giant, man eating monster. )
Batibat is the freakiest name I've got for you. Demon who invaded dreams. Not fun but didn't try and eat me.
no subject
Demons invading dreams? Yikes. Well, that's no walk in the park either, I can imagine.
[ His eyes briefly flick over to the bar where half of the town is asleep right now. ]
Hey, you don't think these creepy crawlies out here have that kind of power, do you?
no subject
I...don't know. ( but. ) Why would all those people suddenly fall asleep though if something wasn't going on?
( sure, it immobilized people but would this place be that bland and normal? probably not. )
sorry this took so long to respond!!
Yeah. [ Gulp. ] I was afraid you might say that. Don't know what's going on with the guys asleep, but it can't be good.
[ Which means it's probably (most definitely) up to them to get rid of these things and wake everyone else up. Not that he knows the first thing to do that. ]
it's totally fine!!!
( that doesn't seem like it's the case. )
It's a good strategy, I guess. Leave a bunch of us vulnerable so the other people have to defend them and can't defend other things. It's smart and I hate that.
