in your closet, in your head.

It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.

Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.

Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?

Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

invincible.

[ early on in the attacks, dana's been checking on the unconscious who have been brought in, making sure their vital signs (or what she can read of them) are still stable and their pulses are still steady. before too long, people who are still fighting against the attack come in in various states of injury, and her attention is turned to those people, patching them up, treating them, giving them fluids, and generally trying to make sure no one else goes unconscious or succumbs to their injuries. lunafreya has been assisting, though they haven't been working together so much as alongside each other due to the sheer volume of people coming in and out.

she's out foraging for medical supplies at one point and comes back to find the young woman looking a little bit wearier, the bruises and cuts standing out starkly on her skin. dana sets what she's found on the table and approaches her, canting her head towards her face to try and look in her eyes and see how fatigued she is. ]

You've been doing really well here. How are you feeling?

[ It's been a long few days, and it seems like there's very little hope of any of these people awakening. She's been pacing between those who slumber, gently touching their faces, petting their hair. Anything to try and gently rouse them, but alas, just like many others have attempted, her attempts, too, are for naught. On occasion, she finds herself seated by those she knows best; Noctis and Ignis, mostly, and of course Aziraphale. Those who come in injured and weary, she does her best to call upon her magic, though here it is limited. Wounds and fatigue will disappear, but it's not instantaneous. It's been good, at least, to have others around to help as well; she's flashed the other woman reassuring smiles in passing, reaching out to give gentle arm squeezes every now and then, but she hadn't had the time to actually say much.

She's been in and out, too; mostly leaving to prowl the parameter of the Invincible to make sure that those fleeing are able to get in, and to make damned sure to keep unwanted spirits out. Between the lack of sleep, taking a beating on and off, and the fact that her magic does in fact come directly from her life source... she is exhausted. She blinks a few times, straightening as Dana approaches and then speaks. ]

Oh! Goodness, thank you so much for your kind words. You, too, have been doing very well. Admittedly, I am just a tad bit... tired. But what of yourself, dear? You, too, must be feeling weary.
paraskeptic: most humans have enjoyed that privilege since the stone age. (do we have the capacity to make fire?)

[ dana is tired, but she's also used to running on fumes. her job required a lot of unusual hours, typically at night, especially when investigating a case. it's true that she's prone to pushing herself, even when (especially when) she's not doing well herself, but this level of exhaustion is manageable. she can tell the woman's been using something to help those who come in needing attendance heal, something beyond her own capabilities, and she doesn't know how it works, but it certainly looks like it's tiring. ]

Thank you. I'm okay, I'm used to this. [ she waves her hand at their surroundings, from those slumbering to those taking a minute to rest after being patched up. ] We're kind of quiet for now, do you want to take a moment?

[ Lunafreya isn't one to give up hope easily, and she won't do that now, even as the weariness and exhaustion of the last few days tallies up and begins to take it's toll. This isn't just affecting her, after all. It's affecting every single one of them in some way, shape, or form, and like at home, she refuses to give in to despair, especially at a time like this. It's why she offers the other woman a small, reassuring smile. ]

You've been very busy. If anyone needs the rest, it is you. Come, sit for a while. [ Lunafreya is already sitting on the floor, and she pats the space next to her. ] We can rest together, at least for a little while, yes?

i am so sorry for the wait, the holiday/winter storm got the best of me.

[ dana doesn't like to stop to give herself time to reflect on all the things that are wrong, either. when things are at their worst she finds it's better to keep moving, afraid she won't be able to start back up if she stops for long enough. but sitting to take a break isn't going to break her, or the other woman. she'll argue the need for her to sleep if it looks like the woman is about to collapse from exhaustion.

she smiles, taking the offered seat beside her, and nods as she settles into the position. her feet are practically crying with relief, she flexes and points her toes inside her shoes and rotates her head from side to side. ]

Thank you. [ after a moment, she extends her hand to shake, if lunafreya wants to. ] My name is Dana, by the way.
