Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
characters: EVERYONE??
location: General Store + around Beacon
date/time: October 18-31
content: This is the costume prompt from the TDM, delivered to you all in mingle-style by popular request and with mod approval
warnings: n/a for now but will update
Although the month is already well underway, residents of Beacon will notice a brand new shipment being delivered to the general store—only this one comes via the forest, as a small legion of spirits quickly drop off crates of boxes at its doorstep before scampering back into the woods. Hopefully nobody is riding too hard on hoping for further rations or supplies, because opening them up quickly squashes any notions of a full month's restock. Instead, it looks like each crate is bursting with costumes! Coming in all shapes and sizes to fit anyone of any age or decree, there’s plenty to choose from. Something scary? Magical? Clever? Or maybe even a bit on the sultry side? Dig deep enough, and you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes, props, accessories, wigs and all!
If nothing else, surely you can find an alternate use for a bit of spare fabric in your size, but what's the harm of having a bit of fun? But, oh, be careful if you're playing dress-up while the hallucinations from the event are in play... These costumes might just have a funny effect on you. 🤔!

Rosinante | OTA
When he finally emerges, cleans up, does his makeup for the first time in days, and ventures out with lingering paranoia, he notices this time rather than puppetry, the running theme around town is, apparently, wild costumes. Are these real? He stops near the bonfire and watches, then calls out to someone passing by with an eye-catching outfit:
"Is that... are we still hallucinating? What did I miss?"
2. Look, he's not opposed to costumes. Reminds him of being a kid again, at least a little. Maybe there's a funny hat or something simple he can indulge in. Maybe a cool feather boa or cape or something he can actually just steal and repurpose as everyday clothing.
But as he approaches the crate, someone else is already there, sorting through it, so he stands to the side and sets his lantern down. "Seen anything in my size yet?" he asks. That's going to be the biggest hurdle. Literally.
2
He looks up at Rosinante coming in, looks him up and down, and says without judgment, "I'll look. But if they brought these things for us, can't think they wouldn't include something for everyone."

"Where did these come from, anyway? I don't remember seeing anyone carry them off the ferry."

But those thoughts are for another day. Right now, it's probably smart to try and relax, as hard as that is.
"That's pretty cool, that coat," he says, nodding to something long and bright red, with gold buttons. Not great for not being noticed, but fine for around town. Not the sort of thing he'd normally wear exactly, but none of these are.

"It's close. Kinda narrow," he points out. It wasn't cut for someone with shoulders quite as broad as his, even if the length looks all right. It has to open too wide to fold nicely around him, leaving creases down the back and it slips off quickly when he tries to turn in it. "I don't actually know if anyone around here does tailoring these days, though. Used to."
Which is to say, Melisandre did, but she hasn't been seen in months, now. The thought of so many people being lost without a trace still hurts.

It's certainly long enough, and the dark purple fabric isn't even a terrible color. He can see it as a poncho in its future, that might be cool. Or a big, bulky scarf. It's starting to cool off these days - there was frost by the riverbank when he woke up, and with no sun to warm the air, they might be in for a deep freeze soon.

"Thanks, I'll think about it. How about you, find anything fun for yourself yet? This looks like party supplies of some kind." But he's still scratching his head as to why the spirits think they should have a costume party. Then again, there's no reason why they should have just spent the last week suffering under intense hallucinations either. He keeps trying to give the spirits more logic than they might have.

Then, he pauses. "Unless you want it, of course. I think it'd be long enough to rest tea length on you." He offers an encouraging smile.

And walking in here and just taking something someone else found would be awfully rude. Instead, he goes back to sorting through things. It's not just clothing in here, but props and accessories, too. He pulls out and then sets aside a cheap stethoscope, a pink tutu, and a pair of what looks like dragon wings, which, hard no, before pulling up a top hat. With a grin, he shoves his own hat down onto his shoulders, letting the hearts drape over his chest, and places the top hat on his head.
"There, now I'm dignified!" he jokes, and turns toward a shelf of kitchenware, stooping to see his reflection in a glass. Nice. What a look.

OTA - Post Bury A Friend Event
"This coat isn't heavy enough to be any good," it says blankly, examining what is pretty clearly a pirate costume coat.
no subject
"Please tell me you know that's meant to be part of a costume." Please.

The word has associations, but no real definition. Something ridiculous. Something other than the norm. Something for... display? Maybe Noctis will clarify.

"You know. For Halloween? People dress up. Go to parties. Trick or treat."

"Halloween is a kind of holiday. People dress up in costumes - I guess I should probably start with that. Costumes are outfits that are meant to make you look like someone else. Or something else. Most of the ones for Halloween are of monsters and stuff. You only wear them for a night, so that's why the coat isn't very warm."

--Only he then realized it was actually a dress. A ballgown. Really, of all the supplies.
It's really loading down the things he's picking out from the pile, so he gets the brilliant idea to try it on since it won't weigh down his arm and he might need it later.
He's looking quite a bit... princessy, as he continues searching for anything.

He has, of course, chosen to put on the first costume closest to himself, which happens to be a halo and a pair of white wings. Which, in his opinion, is basically the best costume he could have asked to find.
no subject
"Very funny one you've got. Ready to practice our celestial harmonies together?"
no subject
"Where do you think these all came from, then? What with the ferry gone?"
no subject
But he does affix the halo. "Oh, you look absolutely ridiculous. And you have wings. They're quite nice wings!"
no subject
He wiggles his shoulderblades and glances back at the little white wings. His eyes narrow as he looks over his shoulder at his actual wings, hidden just in the ether. They look different---they look wrong. Is he imagining something? He must be.
