Although the month is already well underway, residents of Beacon will notice a brand new shipment being delivered to the general store—only this one comes via the forest, as a small legion of spirits quickly drop off crates of boxes at its doorstep before scampering back into the woods. Hopefully nobody is riding too hard on hoping for further rations or supplies, because opening them up quickly squashes any notions of a full month's restock. Instead, it looks like each crate is bursting with costumes! Coming in all shapes and sizes to fit anyone of any age or decree, there’s plenty to choose from. Something scary? Magical? Clever? Or maybe even a bit on the sultry side? Dig deep enough, and you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes, props, accessories, wigs and all!

If nothing else, surely you can find an alternate use for a bit of spare fabric in your size, but what's the harm of having a bit of fun? But, oh, be careful if you're playing dress-up while the hallucinations from the event are in play... These costumes might just have a funny effect on you. 🤔!

Wait what.

The Soldier looks between the too-thin coat and Noctis in confusion. "What do you mean, be a pirate." And it's not sure that coat will fit over the metal arm. (It will.)

"For Halloween."

Too late. He's already digging around trying to find the other parts that go with it. An eye patch. A fake parrot in desperate need of a make over.

"But we're gonna have to come up with a really good pirate name for you."

"No names," it says automatically. "And what the hell even is this." It plucks up the fake parrot with obvious distaste. It looks like... like moths got to it. Or maybe rats. "I am not wearing that. The coat isn't terrible. But I am not wearing that."

[broplaints]

"Fiiiine." Actually getting the solider to agree to wear the jacket is a huge win. He'll take it. "Pretty sure it's supposed to be a parrot but..." Honestly it looks more like a half eaten turkey. "Will you at least wear the eye patch?"

The Soldier eyes it with misgivings, not wanting to impair its line of sight in any way. Maybe if they put a small hole in it. Or took off the back and replaced it with something thinner that it could still see through. "What would I even wear these for. Are there parties. Here?"

[broplaints]

"For fun." Said completely seriously. "Good question. But me and my friends are all dressing up so... maybe you could come hang with us."

Unfortunately for everyone here, the Soldier's idea of "fun" is... very skewed. Fortunately for everyone here, it knows it. So the look it gives Noctis now is deeply uncertain. "I am. Not fun," it warns after a probably too-long pause.

[broplaints]

"That's okay." That pause was, admittedly, a little bit concerning. But considering what he had learned, it really didn't surprise him all that much. "Come anyway. Brings your friend and that other guy."

He means Crowley.

Noctis doesn't even know the half of it yet.

"If you're sure." Not only is the Soldier Not Fun, it is also pretty sure that it's a lot older than Noctis and, presumably, Noctis's friends. Crowley and Aziraphale are even older. ... but it's pretty sure they'd have a good time, anyway. Dressing up in a costume and watching the kids.

So if Noctis is sure.

Noctis is super sure.

"Course I am. Eight o'clock on Halloween sound good? We live in the village. House with a bouncy castle in the yard. Can't miss it."

"Is that what that thing is called?" Because yes, the Soldier has seen it. And been completely confused by it. And once or twice tempted to just sneak over and take a knife to it and see what it would look like without air in it. But the... bouncy castle... doesn't belong to it, and damaging someone else's property without orders, just for its own curiosity, seemed mean. "What is that even for?"

Oh-kay. That's. That's a little creepy. Please don't pop the bounce castle. Luna got it for them special.

"Uh." Gods this is going to sound so ridiculous considering everyone who lives in that house is supposed to be grown adults. "Bouncing?"

You are all a bunch of kids. There is no convincing the Soldier differently, at this point. Nevermind that its current consciousness is only like two months old (discounting repressed memories and shit).

It looks so confused at the answer. "Why?"

It is an actual scientific proven fact that Noctis, Luna and Prompto are all twelve year olds trapped in adult bodies. The only thing keeping them alive is Ignis and Nyx.

"Because it's fun." And because he feels like a broken record saying that. "People do a lot of things just because they enjoy it."

Absolutely no idea how bouncing in a big plastic, air-filled thing like that would count as fun... but then again. "I did warn you. I am not fun." Except it does have a little bit of a smile on as it says that. The Soldier might not be fun, per se, but it does at least have a little sense of humor. It's still working on how best to express it.
