EVENT LOG: GATHER UP

EVENT LOG:
GATHER UP
characters: everyone.
location: beacon at large.
date/time: september 16-25.
content: a town-wide selfie scavenger hunt!
warnings: unflattering camera angles.
🔎📸😘
It starts with a network post, and then a song begins to play in the Invincible, loud enough to be heard throughout Bonfire Square. Welcome to the scavenger hunt, everyone! You've been tasked with finding 25 "items" in and around Beacon, so hop to it!
Please remember to ICly report your findings on Robin's network post if you want them to count toward a prize! As a further reminder, you're free to interpret the list items however you/your character would like, and you're free to assume your character can find all of these things somewhere in town without running into trouble! Just don't stray too far from town to go gallivanting off into the wilderness, as that might be dangerous. This includes finding forest spirits! You're welcome to NPC your own forest spirit encounters, just like in our last event.
That said, if you would like to search a particular area for a fun surprise, let us know below!

[Anyone paying enough attention may notice a streak of blonde and green as Mary darts behind the Invincible! Hmmm…suspicious! What could she possibly be doing back there, all alone? Or maybe it’s when she lets out a scream that you come running. Either way, she’s turning over a decent sized crate that doesn’t seem to be particularly heavy; it’s empty, and a large hole has been apparently chewed out through one side.]
He got away! Oh, drat!
[She looks dreadfully put out.]
b.
[A bit later and Mary’s disappeared altogether, tramping alone through the woods.]
Your Majesty?
[She seems to be calling for…royalty of some sort, and she certainly isn’t being stealthy. Any time she comes across the path of a forest spirit, she stops to make their acquaintance.]
Pardon me, but do you think you could grant me an audience with your king?
[Maybe she shouldn’t be by herself.]
A GAME FOR ALL
[It’s likely that many will be able to recognize Mary’s art style when they see the scraggly, smiling creature that’s been stuck to a tree trunk at the edge of Bonfire Square. Slung on a low branch is a long piece of fabric, and Mary holds another, smaller piece of paper that seems to have been torn into a somewhat circular shape. There’s a little pin attached to the top.]
I made a game! For the scavenger hunt! It’s Pin the Mask on the Forest Spirit!
KNOCK, KNOCK
[Anyone in their living quarters, be it a room in the Invincible, a house in the village, or somewhere different altogether, may suddenly find that they have company! Mary remembers, at least, to wait and knock instead of barging in, and when the door opens, she curtsies with a smile. Her things are beside her in the doorway, so it seems she’s here for a real visit.]
May I come in?
WILDCARD
[Mary can be found drawing almost anywhere around town when she’s taking a break from scavenger hunting. Though she often seems to be focused on the task, because she’s a very serious artist, she’s always happy to talk to you if you get her attention.]
Knock Knock
He blinks in surprise at Mary, since of anyone to expect he wasn't sure why she'd be stopping by. He glances over his shoulder, but his room is fairly clean and so he shrugs as he steps aside.]
Uh...sure? Though I was just about to head back out...
no subject
[She picks up her things and darts inside, looking all around, as if assessing. Finally, she decides on a spot, and holds up her tablet.]
Let's take a picture!
no subject
Okay then.]
A picture? Oh, this is for that scavenger hunt...did you have something specific in mind?
[He had noticed the post and been contemplating participating, though first he wanted to get some ideas of where to look before just wandering around blindly. Mary seemed to have a different strategy in mind.]
no subject
[The answer seems to be "not really" if you consider that she doesn't have an immediate answer, but then raises her arms.]
Pick me up!
this has barely started and is already too precious
You want on my shoulders? That could make for a good picture.
[He may not have any younger siblings of his own, but he'd always kept an eye out for the younger campers. He had a soft spot for them and that was clearly not going to stop here, even after witnessing Mary in action during capture the flag. Honestly that may have endeared her to him more, he was more or less used to small children with a penchant for sharp weapons.
That was sort of the norm at both camps.]
I'll destroy you with cuteness
[Perfect idea! Jason is so, so smart! She laughs as he lifts her, and she's so, so light--it wouldn't have been hard to pick her up even if he wasn't a demigod.]
Shall we make pretty faces, or funny faces?
yes good do that
I think funny. You're on my shoulders, so we should just keep making it funny. Besides, I think everyone would enjoy a funny picture.
[He also wasn't entirely sure how he would go about making a "pretty face" and at least "funny" he had context first.]
no subject
[She holds out the tablet to make sure they they can get a good picture together, keeping a decent portion of the room around them in view. And then she screws up her eyes, sticking out her tongue.]
Bleeeeh!
[That's her version of "say cheese" apparently.]
no subject
An idea occurs to him at the last minute and before the selfie can be snapped Jason uses his control of the wind to blow Mary's hair in all directions.]

The kings hunt; b
You know, kings are very busy. Maybe we should make an appointment.
no subject
I'm very busy, too!
no subject
Well of course. Princesses have things to do too.
no subject
That's right! I'm playing the scavenger hunt right now. Are you having fun, too?
no subject
[Clearly this calls for an adventure.]
no subject
I would love to! That would be so much fun!
wildcards
he sets it next to her, a little breathless. )
I heard you were looking for someone.
( he really can't fathom why, his Majesty is not exactly friendly. )
no subject
Oh, oh, you found him! I was so worried! Matt, Matt, you're amazing!
[Give her a second, she'll notice that he's not exactly looking, uh, great.]
no subject
He was finding himself a snack in the store. ( Matt and rats in stores. that sounds like the title of a children's book, only it's terrible. ) Mary, he hasn't hurt you, has he? He doesn't seem to care for people.
no subject
[She stares lovingly into the box, like it isn't housing a horrific affront to nature.]
He doesn't like to cuddle, but it's okay. We have an understanding, so he won't try to eat me.
no subject
( there'd been some gnawing going on, though not so bad that he is particularly worried about it. he sits down, though, to catch his breath. )
I wish you to have a pet you could cuddle, Mary. ( and one that liked her more than just not trying to eat her. Mary, stop him before he starts being sad about a little girl trapped in a world of darkness with only a multiheaded rat pet, please!! )
no subject
I do, too. I want some that will love me forever and ever, and never want to run away.
no subject
If you could have any pet in the world, what would you have? ( let's try that. maybe it'll be a hair less horribly depressing!!! )
no subject
Any at all? I think...a mother, or a little girl who's as small as I am!
[Her definition of "pet" may be a bit off, here, but she decides this so eagerly!]
But if I can't have those, I think a kitty.
no subject
Didn't you have a mother back home? ( for his part, despite all his sad orphan problems, Matt has never wanted replacement parents. then again, he was pretty fucking metal as a kid, most kids were a touch more forgiving. )
A kitty, huh? There used to be a cat I liked outside the orphanage. He was about as friendly as his majesty over there, but I got to pet him a couple times.
