INTRO LOG: SEPTEMBER

INTRO LOG: SEPTEMBER
COME INTO MY HEAD
characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: september 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. everyone gets a special gift, courtesy of the lighthouse keeper.
warnings: n/a.
welcome to beacon.
It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.
You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern that glows steadily with a healthy flame.
You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.
Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.
In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.•••
Unlike the past two months, there's not a whole lot happening down at the dock today. It's quiet, disconcertingly so, after the foghorn blows once and then twice to signal the ferry's arrival. Winters is dead, and as such there's no one around to dole out the "need to know" info for the new arrivals.
Luckily, the tablet and the town do have some resources available for playing catch up! The Keeper's recent network post is available for everyone to read, and newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall. Everyone's also welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes, too.
But, oh! In the ferry's cargo hold is a rather large crate addressed to the Postmaster General, and inside? A bunch of ocarinas! The Postmaster General, set up at their little stall, will be passing out ocarinas (free of charge!) to everyone that happens by. Anyone who doesn't come by the stall will receive one in their mailbox.
Shortly after the ferry arrives, a new message from the Lighthouse Keeper appears on the network:
Did everyone get their ocarinas? If you didn't, check your mailbox at the post office. There's plenty to go around. The extras will be in the general store.
You can use these to communicate with the forest spirits. Their language is based on musical notes, so you have to play little songs for them. Here's a couple of basic translations that should help you guys out:
The rest of the message contains playing instructions and example audio files for the following messages:
- A friendly greeting!
- An assurance that equates to "I come in peace".
- A short melody that translates roughly to polite terms like please, thank you, and you're welcome.
- A shrill note that asks for help.
Characters can use the ocarinas to communicate these phrases to the forest spirits (and are welcome to try learning or communicating other phrases), but keep in mind that there's not much plot info to be learned from the forest spirits, at least not for right now. These ocarinas won't exactly help you translate anything the forest spirits might say back, after all.
The Lighthouse Keeper won't be responding to that network post, but she can be contacted through her inbox!
ooc.
Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! For this intro log, you are officially without a chaperone. Rastus is back at the bonfire, Will is characteristically elusive, and Robin is, well, you know where she's at. It's up to the veteran residents to fill in the new folks.
We're also happy to introduce the YARD SARD... The Postmaster General will be appearing in any intro logs where a player formerly in the game has ordered something through Rastus but is no longer around to claim it! These items will still come in, but since they have no owner, they'll be available for other characters to claim. It's usually a first come, first serve situation, though the Postmaster General may turn folks away for any number of weird reasons. (OOCly, it's us attempting to spread the wealth among the playerbase.)

DELIVERIES
The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
- The monthly store restock
- Two silver prosthetic pieces (they aren't a perfect fit, but they work well enough) for Polnareff
- A few bottles of holy water, a pouch of powdered silver, and a magic wand (the wand doesn't have the permanence spell Elden was looking for, unfortunately; instead, it will temporarily change the color of its target to either pink or blue!) for Elden
- Webfluid components (about a three month's supply) for Peter
- A spice rack for Davina, and one for Ignis as well, plus a little geology kit with both of their names scribbled on the package and crossed out various times. Looks like these orders got a little mixed up! Everything each of them requested (plus a little extra) can be found among these packages, but they'll have to sort out what goes where
- 2 cartons of cigarettes, a flintlock pistol, and 100 rounds of ammo for it (though none for the shotgun, hm!) for Rosinante
- A small assortment of dreamcatchers, all with a lot of feathers for Xayah
- A flash drive (on which is a very simple app for Morse code translation! this can be passed around or uploaded to the network for many users to download) for Matt
- A bounce house (small and with quite a few holes that need patching, but it'll get the job done; it's deflated, but it does have a built-in fan!) for Lunafreya
If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

YARD SARD
The Postmaster General is here! They've set up a little stall on the dock, and have a couple of items for... sard?
A carton of cigarettes42 boxes of .45 bulletsA sewing kit
If you would like to purchase an item from the Postmaster General, you can haggle with them below!

Was it something from home? [ he's been here not even a week; it takes him at least 72 hours to figure out where east and west happens to be and how best to slaughter a village and make a mess of it. this rastus remains a mystery to kol for today, even if he has an inkling of the extent of his mystical reach.
wanting to see the tension leave davina, kol smiles teasingly, ] Was it me?
no subject
talk about being the worst possible girlfriend right now.
she turns to him with a faint smile, taking her lantern from him and persuading him to get up too. no point in trying to find something that's not there. ] I wanted us to be together again, but in different circumstances. [ him being here means that he's dead and that's just unacceptable for her. ] I'm happy that you're here with me, though.
no subject
well, he'd like to be alive, too. but there's no point in being in the land of the living if he's to be with shit company for the rest of his life while she's here… or worse.
standing, he lets his lantern slide down his arm to his hand. the presence of his smile and the narrow of his eyes should be suspect to her. ] Just happy? [ kol feigns disappointment, pouting. ] I was hoping for thrilled. Perhaps even ecstatic. [ his brows shoot up just as his pout disappears. ] Ecstatically thrilled would probably be better.
no subject
she lifts her lantern to illuminate him further, wanting a good look of his brand new shirt. not really his style, but: ] Not bad. I'm surprised something fit you. [ though to be fair, it would probably be like a nightgown on her. ] I hope you didn't rip it off from one of the newcomers.
no subject
And if I did? [ he looks at her with his brows raised. if he had done that, there'd be blood on the sweater… which wouldn't be all that bad, come to think of it. it might even give it some character… ]
Would you like it more?
[ of course he already knows the answer to that one. ]
no subject
davina tilts her head as if really considering his question. seeing him in this kind of shirt, in this colour is a little bit ... when was the last time she's seen him in light, pastel-coloured shirts? it's just not his colour or style, the sweater just a soft shapeless thing on him. but does she dislike it? ] I actually think this looks good on you. I like it as it is.
[ it's very different from the sleek murderer image the mikaelsons have painted as their legacy. kol wearing this is reduced to just her boyfriend, not a killer that revels in blood and mayhem. ]
Do you not like it?
no subject
No.
[ said passionately and firmly. kol would rip it right off his being and set it on fire (if he could). as someone who prefers darker colours (often to hide blood), this pastel blue he's chosen has left a lot to be desired. for some reason, all the dark coloured shirts he'd found in the store had been a size too small.
kol steps away from the cargo as if he can step away from this conversation. ] This colour would look better on someone else.
[ like kaleb westphall with his bright blue eyes and ability to wear this sweater and not let it wear him. ]
no subject
she walks up to him, slipping her hand in his. ] You didn't find any other shirt? At all?
[ it makes sense why he's saddled with this kind of sweater-shirt thing, then. but really, it doesn't look all that bad on him. just ... baggy shirt kol mikaelson isn't really what she expected to see on day 1 of the newcomers' arrival. ]
I'm pretty sure I found black shirts when I was rummaging for supplies and food a few days ago.
no subject
gripping her hand gently in his, he stops suddenly. peering down at her, he informs her, ] I'm going to take it off. [ he makes a move with his free hand to grip the hem of his sweater, hoping to stir her up.
hopefully this will take her mind off of whatever it is she's lost and will somehow conjure up a shirt that suits him! ]
no subject
[ davina might as well be a vampire at the speed her free hand moves, tugging the hem of his sweater back down. she's not ready for any kind of random stripping, not when her mind is currently all over the place, conjuring the worst case scenario with klaus or elijah arriving in beacon and that white oak branch landing in their hands. ugh.
okay, so she might need to calm down and just—not think about it. ] Look, if you really hate this shirt, then we can try to find you something else to wear. [ or you know, request from rastus for next month's delivery. ]
no subject
The look on your face! [ his hands leave his sweater with one coming to wipe underneath his dry eye. all the tension coiled tightly within him disperses, even for only a few moments. he feels light, like he had in kaleb's body. he feels like himself.
boldly, he wraps his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer toward him. davina smells nice, just as he remembers her from home. it's a nice reminder that she's real and this isn't some elaborately woven spell to make him hallucinate her here.
still with a smile and a laugh in his voice, he peers down at her, ] Love, are you really that ashamed of me? Not wanting anyone else to see me… One might mistake that for possessiveness.
no subject
now that he's done trying to entertain her, davina's mind wanders back to the white oak, even as kol pulls her against him. it crosses her mind once more to ask help from him—but then, she's almost certain of the lineup of questions waiting for her: why does she have the white oak? what is she going to use it for? did she know he's arriving?
she snorts in amusement of his comment, nudging his side. ] I just don't want you giving everyone a heart attack because you're walking around naked. [ plus that's her privilege to see, isn't it? ] I'm being considerate to our fellow ghosts.
no subject
[ the bloody spirits and ghosts and souls should be honoured to see him naked! it's only been hours and he's still trying to get used to being in this body than the tall and lanky one of kaleb. everyone should be giving him second looks! davina shouldn't be able to take her eyes off of him!
alright, his indignation is definitely getting ahead of him. ]
I've never had anyone describe seeing me as a heart attack. I'm almost convinced you don't like this body, Davina Claire.
no subject
Oh? [ memories of being placed in kaleb's body should still be fresh in kol's mind, which is why it doesn't surprise her that he's mentioning this to her again. a part of her honestly wonders if he has some form of insecurity, uncertainty towards a dead witch. ] I clearly remember saying that I like this face of yours just fine.
[ their little moment in the ancestral plane, her first actual meeting of him—and then also, the realisation that this is the real kol and the same one she's spent weeks with. ]
no subject
his smile is still big and wide, his voice light and almost cheeky; davina may already know that as innocent as it looks, it's not. ] And I recall you seeing a picture of my face and thinking I wasn't as handsome as the other one. Clearly I didn't give you a heart attack.
[ kaleb what's-his-face clearly did. :) ]
