everything has changed and now i can't tell what matters.

Welcome to part two of the WILD HEART event! Kimiko and the Hunt are here to stay for the next three days, and will be answering all your questions below. If you've got questions for us, hit up the OOC post! Further details on how the Wild Hunt will work as a longterm mechanic will be released in our next gameplan, so stay tuned!

Certain status effects lingering from the torture have been sent out to a few random players, and have all been sent out at this point!

RECOVERY

For the next three days, the Wild Hunt seems intent on making themselves as useful as possible. To that end, they've set up a few temporary stations.

In survival skills, they'll teach others how to set traps, make rudimentary weapons, and find shelter within the woods. The teacher there is firm, but by the end of the first day, has set up a small competition to see who can make the most efficient traps and weapons, with prizes including small toolkits, perfect for home repair, and, oddly enough, small pieces of candy.

The station at the Greenhouse is all about horticulture and farming both. They teach skills about how to plant and grow food effectively, as well as what seeds require what kind of care, how to tend to flowers, and what plants are most useful in healing. There are no prizes in his lessons, unfortunately, but for characters who stay long enough, he'll show them his pride and joy: a flower in a pot that blooms only in the light of the moon.

Finally, over in medical training, there's a woman who knows her stuff when it comes to first aid. From sutures to emergency response, she'll teach characters how to deal with most common injuries. She even has a practice test dummy, who bears the unfortunate scars of lessons long since past. Characters can learn CPR, how to effectively administer stitches, tend to burns, and other such necessities.

While they won't always work for free, at least right now, the Wild Hunt seems intent on charity. Lessons are offered freely, services given without any thought of payment.

THE HUNT

[The woman who stands behind the bonfire seems, if not at ease with herself, at least outwardly calm. Her hand are clasped behind her back, her stance steady as she waits for everyone to settle down and around.]

Good evening.

My name, for those of you who missed it, is Kimiko Yasutake. I'm the current leader of the Wild Hunt. You may have seen us around . . . I'm sorry if we ever scared you, but supplies are limited, and frankly, it's easier to steal a suit than try and make one. Ordinarily, we live out in the mines.

We've a group of people from past resets. People who were just like you once. We woke on the ferry after our deaths, and for a time, we lived in this town and tried to get on with our lives.

But that wasn't enough.

[She pauses, then. Takes a breath, hesitates, and then resolves herself.]

I-- before I go on, I want to tell you a bit about myself. I think it will help you all understand.

I was a farmer when I was alive. A rice farmer, specifically. My entire family was, and we always had been. And we had a horse. Just the one. She was a vital part of it, though; without her, my father couldn't take as much into town to sell.

And then one day, she misstepped and broke her leg.

Horses can't recover from that. I don't know if any of you have ever dealt with one, but they just can't. It's inhumane to keep them alive afterwards, never mind try and set the leg. It's agony for them, and it usually ends with their deaths regardless. But we needed that horse, and so he tried.

And then, three days later, we had to put her down anyway, because she was suffering. Only a sadist would have kept her alive.

This world is broken. You must see that. It was vibrant once, alive, just as we all once were, but that's gone now, and you can't grasp for things you've lost. You can't . . . this isn't life. It's a pale imitation of it.

So please . . . try to understand what I mean when I tell you that the Wild Hunt's goal is not to hurt others. We have no interest in making you suffer in the least.

But to allow this place to live is every bit as cruel as my father leaving that horse alive was. It's selfish to keep that portal open, to force tens of hundreds of souls into living here only to be reset or killed or eaten. And I refuse to allow it to keep happening. I simply will not, I cannot in good consciousness force others to go through this over and over again.

We're the Fire Snatchers, yes. Because we believe that extinguishing the lanterns, the bonfire, the lighthouse, and killing this world once and for all is the only humane thing to do. Even if it kills we all of us stuck here as well.

[There's a pause, and then Kimiko exhales slowly.]

If you have questions, I'll be around for three more days.

Even if no one joins her, she's done enough by causing a rift of dissent in people.

More than likely some will turn against each other. I've seen it happen before.

Private

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-03-28 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So, we find a way to make that not happen. We find something or some way for that to not happen to us. To THIS group.

Only if we let it. We can do better than this, I know we can.
paletteswap: (It ends)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-03-29 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
We need to convince people there's another way. A better way than simply laying down and dying.

We can absolutely do better than that.

How? How do we show people that? A speech? Another town meeting?
paletteswap: (Oh)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-02 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure yet.

No one listens to speeches, and not everyone comes to town meetings.

Unless you're being sarcastic, I cannot tell through text.

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-04-02 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I was being a little sarcastic. Sorry. But short of sending out notes for everyone, I don't know what to do, and even then? I'd need to know the name of every last one of us and last time I tried asking for personal information, it did not go that well.
paletteswap: (Not sure)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-04 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Putting an ad in the bulletin might be easier, but still no guarantees anyone reads it.

I haven't met anyone that I can imagine thinking this is the better option. Who would be willing to basically give up completely and let themselves and everyone else be killed. Might be best to start with anyone who seems likely to agree with that perspective. If you know any.

well, me? For me, I mean. I talked with Solis about it when she showed up on the network. About why I should keep risking myself for this place? It's not even MY place and I never chose to come here. All I wanted was to move on.

But not having any choice at all? That's different. It's one thing to make that choice for yourself, but to make it for everyone else?

I am and I will keep doing it, but even if none of us thinks like they do, THEY are still out there, trying to find a way to kill us all and burn this place to the ground.
paletteswap: (Frosty)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-07 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
And that is precisely the problem. Anyone can make their own choice, but to make choices for others is something we cannot allow.

We owe them much for assisting in the rescue. Though now I wonder why they bothered when they wish everyone to die anyway.
moderatelymaladjusted: (31)

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-04-08 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
So we'd owe them. That's what I think. That, or they were the ones behind the kidnappings. That would make a lot more sense.
paletteswap: (Default)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-09 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Devious enough that both may be true. Orchestrated it and then showed up to be the heroic rescuers in order to recruit some to their side.

Just when I thought we were starting to make progress in finding out more about this place and being able to strike back. Now this.
moderatelymaladjusted: (68)

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-04-10 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Something like that, yeah.

Whatever happened this time? We COULDN'T strike back. This was planned and it was directed by someone or something, because the spirits were never this coordinated when they attacked. Not even when half the town was asleep.
paletteswap: (To the future)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-11 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in agreement. Even if the original attack was simply to detect our defenses and probe for weaknesses, the difference between then and now is far more than them learning and adapting.

Either they're working together or there's some additional faction we're unaware of. If they want all light to go out there's no reason for them to endear themselves to us when they could have taken the opportunity to halve our numbers.

None of this makes sense, and I'm not sure it will. The more I try to understand what goes on here the less I can grasp any purpose to it.
moderatelymaladjusted: (77)

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-04-13 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless they need us. Or, need some of us. That would be a reason to come rushing to our rescue -just- in time. There's something fishy about all of this, and it's not something from the lake.

It makes sense if you think about it. But I'm not sure how safe the network is. Is there anywhere we can meet?
paletteswap: (At Ease)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-22 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I wonder who they deem worthy to join their cause and who will be culled to fit their needs.

You're right, we should continue this elsewhere. The Invincible?
moderatelymaladjusted: (23)

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-04-28 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Meet me at the bar in an hour.
paletteswap: (Behind You)

Text -> Action

[personal profile] paletteswap 2020-04-29 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I shall see you then.

[The Invincible is oddly empty, most being out either talking to the Wild Hunt, or dealing with the aftermath of the kidnapping. Kuai counts himself fortunate to have come out of that situation mostly unscathed.

He nods at Quentin when he arrives, heading to the bar for a drink first. He's pretty sure he's going to need one.

[personal profile] moderatelymaladjusted 2020-05-03 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not that Quentin has his own barstool or anything, but he always picks the same one all the same. Transition anxiety, is what the psychologist called it, and Quentin just ... doesn't think about it. Just heads straight for the spot that he already knows and slides in to the seat, hand already curling around a glass of something.]

I wasn't sure you'd show up.
