EVENT LOG: PLEADER

EVENT LOG:
PLEADER

characters: everyone.
location: the floating night market, docked at the harbor.
date/time: december 12-16.
content: the night market arrives.
warnings: n/a.

yo voy a volver tu vas a ver.

In the wee hours of December 12, the lights return, appearing just under the waves in the harbor, approaching the dock, until the lights surface entirely. They're submarines, glowing a dim blue now that they're up out of the water, and the fleet is three vessels strong. They've brought with them a floating bridge system to attach to the harbor's main dock to allow access to all three submarines, and they start to unpack...

By "morning", under the light of the full moon, the Night Market is open for business!

This time, it's three vendors that arrive: Aaravos, an expert in all things magical; Michelle Cheung, master of papercraft; and Pluto, the Night Market's leader, who rolls out of her submarine in a custom-built wheelchair. They've brought a handful of helpers with them to set up the market and run the various booths and games. Though they have no torches among them, the docks are lit with the blue glow of the submarines, their lights rippling slowly in intricate patterns and shapes, reminiscent of carnival lights.

•••

Accepted currencies at the Night Market include: Building and scrap materials, old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, torches, information, and most importantly... Plutonium. Of course, attempting to barter is always an option... but these currencies are your best bet for dealing with the various vendors offered by the Night Market.

Here are the vendors and their inventories for the current Night Market visit:
PLUTO
  • Special orders - Pluto can procure items just like Rastus, but she can get you specific goods from homeworlds. The more specific the request, the more it will cost. Items ordered through Pluto will arrive on the next ferry.

  • Heals - A borrowed gun-looking device allows Pluto to heal even the most grievous of injuries. This item doesn't belong to her, though, so... results may vary. If you want proper healing, you'll have to wait until the Night Market's medical unit shows up in the future.

  • GPS coordinates - Looking to discover more locations and resources out in the forest? Pluto can hook you up with hints to do just that.

  • Lantern charms - These charms can be attached to your lantern to provide BENEFITS as well as DRAWBACKS. The following charms are currently on display, with these labels attached: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence, Charisma. You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Pluto for more information.

AARAVOS
  • Drugs - You want it? He's probably got it! Cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, and pretty much whatever else you can dream up is worth inquiring about.

  • Magic potions - These potions last for no more than 24 hours unless otherwise noted. The following potions are currently on display, with these labels attached: Hair change, genderswap, body swap, love potion, luck potion, night vision, weather in a bottle, fake an injury, invisibility potion, furry shit, daemon shit. What does all of this crap do, exactly? You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Aaravos for more information.

  • Lantern charms - These charms can be attached to your lantern to provide BENEFITS as well as DRAWBACKS. The following charms are currently on display, with these labels attached: Disguise, Energy Boost, Charmer. You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Aaravos for more information.

MICHELLE
  • Handcrafted paper contraptions - Michelle can craft nearly anything out of paper, and don't let the lightness fool you—she can make her paper sharp and solid as steel. As long as you keep it out of the water (or do something to protect it from water damage yourself), your one-of-a-kind paper contraption is built to last! (She'll accept the typical Night Market currencies, as well as payment in the form of books. Any book will do! She'll even provide something to help you if you chose to go on a mission to steal a book for her from the library. These library stealth missions can be handwaved while making purchases from Michelle; just let us know in the form below if you'd like to pursue this.)

DR. SCHICKSAL'S HINT-O-MATIC
  • AMA - Does your character have any burning questions they just need to have answered? Dr. Schicksal's Hint-O-Matic is a phonebooth-looking device with a screen prompting the user to input a question. When a question is asked, Dr. Schicksal's Hint-O-Matic will spout out an answer! Questions can be typed in via keypad or spoken aloud, and answers will be automatically read aloud for characters that can't read the screen. These answers are always true, no matter what the question, but this information comes at a cost—your character will be blessed with a random status effect for the remainder of the month. We will check permissions posts before issuing a status effect, so there's your hint for what to expect. 😃 And, yes, you can literally ask anything.
•••

Other than the vendors, the Night Market has brought with them the following attractions:
  • COFFEE CART - The coffee cart offers every variety of hot drink a person could fathom, and it's complimentary! A few small tables have been set up in front of the cart around an outdoor heater, glowing happily as it warms this little section of dock.

  • CANDY SHOP - Sweet treats offered at the candy shop are also free for the taking, but be careful—some treats carry with them a random status effect that will last for the next hour. The treats and resulting status effects are left entirely up to you players, so feel free to create your own hijinx! This is us trusting you not to break the game, so don't abuse this privilege, and feel free to ask us if you're unsure about limitations! Not all treats will produce an effect, but those that do will have no tells, meaning characters will not be able to strategize when eating the candy. (In meta terms: if you want your character to engage in wacky bullshit, but they're a party pooper and hate fun and wouldn't willingly indulge, this is your opportunity to trick them into shenanigans.)

  • CARNIVAL GAMES - The small section of carnival games includes ring toss, skeeball, balloon darts, a shooting gallery, a fishing game, a plinko game, and an RC racing game with toy vehicles. The rules are all somewhat nebulous, but feel free to play out your characters interacting with these games on your own! They're all free to play, and prizes include knitted forest spirit plushies, wind-up goldfish that float through the air, and buckets of those plastic spider rings and finger topper guys that cost like one ticket apiece at Swings-N-Things.

  • WHACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBE MEN - They are also here, and they have a jukebox with them with an unfathomably large selection of songs. This area of the dock is probably meant for dancing.
•••

Finally, though you can trade with the various NPC vendors in this log, check out the new Night Market Purchases page for fast-tracked transactions.

[THERE IS TEA. QUALITY TEA. THIS IS THE BEST DAY SINCE KUAI GOT HERE. He approaches with his own cup, sipping appreciatively.]

Their selection is not bad.
pure_havoc: (suave smile)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-15 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[now here is a man who knows the value of quality tea! Cao Pi raises his cup in salute]

It's about time, isn't it? If these are the folks who supply the town regularly, they've been holding out on us.
paletteswap: (I'll end you)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-15 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder if we were not asking for enough. When I made requests of Rastus I tried to keep them reasonable, but maybe I should have asked for more.

[He nods in return. Polite as always.]

Oh, I nearly forgot to tell you, I inquired with him if we could obtain a weapon or armorsmith. He said it's not possible, that people aren't items.

He also said we couldn't hire one for a brief time. It was worth a try I suppose.
pure_havoc: (softer look)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-15 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? Excellent work. [credit where credit is due, after all] It's a disappointing answer but not unexpected. Thank you, grandmaster. It seems we either have to hope some poor smith is killed in some world that drives him here, or have to make do.

[kidding about the dead smith...maybe...]

Are you planning to barter for anything with these merchants? I haven't decided, but I find their prices somewhat...peculiar.
paletteswap: (Who is it?)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-15 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[He had the same thought.]

While we're at it we can hope that entire armies fall and are delivered to us. Equal chance I suppose.

I'm not sure yet, none have anything I truly want. Has anything caught your eye?
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-15 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[oof, what a terribly morbid thought. Zihuan approves, given his smirk]

Not particularly. The leader seems somehow capable of bringing things from home, but I can't think of any single item I miss so terribly that I should want it. [sniff] Only my wife, and I wouldn't do that to her.
paletteswap: (Going to kill you)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-16 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
You don't happen to have any royal armorsmiths that might want to follow you into the afterlife?

[He's only half joking.]

There must be a grave price for retrieving things from home. How would such a thing even be accomplished? There's nothing I desire, and even if there were I wouldn't want one of these strangers going to my temple and taking it for me.
pure_havoc: (suspicious)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-16 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[half joking right back!] No one I would want to spend eternity with. Though, Xu Huang is fairly strong, if the Hydra ended up killing him and sending him here he could at least swing a hammer.

...I hadn't thought of that. What it would mean for them to acquire things from home...

[no dirty foreign boots in the palace, thanks]
paletteswap: (Judging)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-19 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
They're either somehow constructing forgeries, or retrieving the actual things. And if they are actually going to our worlds and getting it, what does that mean for those we have left behind?

Many here have family, would they be forcing their way into their homes to take things from their relatives?

[More importantly why can these people leave, and the rest of them cannot??]
pure_havoc: (determined)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-20 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[his thoughts exactly, and that's why his brow furrows deeply]

That would mean they can leave this place, and I find that almost harder to believe than being able to bring items here through whatever ridiculous space-time magic they have.

I don't like this. It demands explanation. I shall have to get one.
paletteswap: (Will do what is necessary)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-21 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I wish you luck in that.

[he raises his cup in a small salute.]

Perhaps we should follow them when they leave, and see where exactly they go.
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-22 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[yeah, he has to wonder himself, whether asking will get him anywhere. But he can try.]

That will be difficult without a boat of some sort. I expect someone will attempt to stow away on one of their underwater ships anyway, we'll see how long that lasts.
paletteswap: (To the future)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-23 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
We'll find a body floating soon I'm sure.

[Or they won't because it'll be eaten or something equally horrible.]

Perhaps one of the ones that crashed the ferry.
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-23 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
[he attempts to stifle a laugh and fails, it comes out as a magnificent and elegant SNORT]

Could we be so lucky? Perhaps a second or third death will finally stick. I should only be disappointed if it ends up being someone I previously respected for their intelligence. It can be so sad watching such a fall from grace.
paletteswap: (Finish this)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-24 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[So dignified.]

Some only get one and do not return. I wonder if the difference is how they die to begin with. I'm not sure we'll ever know.

Whoever attempts it will think it was a good idea before we find them revived in the church.
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine that repeatedly doing so will continue to be so easy, but then, it seems gauche to ask the previously dead about that.

[BIG OL SHRUG he wouldn't care about Crowley's feelings on how gauche it is but he also makes a point not to associate with him]

All that aside. How are you faring, Grandmaster?
paletteswap: (Default)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I would ask, but some have been forthcoming with information.

[Rosinante hasn't been shy about letting him know when he died and what happened. So there's that.]

Well, I suppose. I survived the attack relatively unharmed compared to others, and so far this tea hasn't poisoned me. That's about all I can ask for.

[Sure he lost his entire ear, but that's not important.]
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-25 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[yeah, about that ear. Cao Pi's eyes go straight to it as soon as Kuai gives the equivalent of 'I'm fine.']

Relatively, indeed. I suppose as disfigurements go it it could be worse. Unless you are simply putting on a brave face?
paletteswap: (I'll end you)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-27 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.]

Could have been a leg. And I'm still alive. Well, as alive as any of us are here. I've been told my hearing is failing anyway, this likely won't help - but it's not as bad as others experienced.
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-27 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
That is in fact a very noble way to look at it. [well done, Kuai?] Though, if your hearing was failing...that's unfortunate.

[that and the raise of his mug of tea is as close as he gets to expressing his sympathies. He gets it, really. Remind him to tell you about Xiahou Dun and his eyeball sometime.]

Well. I suppose we have something of a respite, here. Is it just me, or is there a pattern of some sort of vague attempt to cheer us up after every terrible incident?
paletteswap: (Tag Team)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-27 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't think it was, but I suppose I am not the best judge of things.

[He's fairly certain Hanzo was messing with him, but he is getting older, so who knows.]

It's true, almost as if it's apologetic for what happened. Unless it's the reverse and the terrible things occur after we're lulled into a false sense of security by the various parties and calming events.
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-28 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, yes, that could be equally possible. I suppose it bears a closer look. Then again, I don't mind a chance to catch my breath and have some tea and wine, and join my fellows in throwing up our hands in frustration.

[things are marginally better when you can look at each other and agree, what the fuck was all of that.]

...I wonder if we can trade them enough to keep this tea cart.
paletteswap: (Smirk)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-31 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ Very much so. All of this is so much what the fuckery that Kuai isn't sure he's processing half of it.]

Now you're onto something. What could we offer for that. I think they'd want something more than some bricks and books.
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2019-12-31 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
You think? What if it is the least they can create, and they consider it worth nothing more than a clever joke told or a bit of gossip about the Keeper? You and I may value quality tea more than a potion but these folks?
paletteswap: (To the future)

[personal profile] paletteswap 2019-12-31 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I am fully willing to sell out the Keeper in order for this cart to stay. Unfortunately I don't think I know of anything worthwhile that isn't common knowledge.

But I also do not talk to her often, it's aggravating.

Have you found out anything more about her?
