EVENT LOG: PLEADER

EVENT LOG:
PLEADER

characters: everyone.
location: the floating night market, docked at the harbor.
date/time: december 12-16.
content: the night market arrives.
warnings: n/a.

yo voy a volver tu vas a ver.

In the wee hours of December 12, the lights return, appearing just under the waves in the harbor, approaching the dock, until the lights surface entirely. They're submarines, glowing a dim blue now that they're up out of the water, and the fleet is three vessels strong. They've brought with them a floating bridge system to attach to the harbor's main dock to allow access to all three submarines, and they start to unpack...

By "morning", under the light of the full moon, the Night Market is open for business!

This time, it's three vendors that arrive: Aaravos, an expert in all things magical; Michelle Cheung, master of papercraft; and Pluto, the Night Market's leader, who rolls out of her submarine in a custom-built wheelchair. They've brought a handful of helpers with them to set up the market and run the various booths and games. Though they have no torches among them, the docks are lit with the blue glow of the submarines, their lights rippling slowly in intricate patterns and shapes, reminiscent of carnival lights.

•••

Accepted currencies at the Night Market include: Building and scrap materials, old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, torches, information, and most importantly... Plutonium. Of course, attempting to barter is always an option... but these currencies are your best bet for dealing with the various vendors offered by the Night Market.

Here are the vendors and their inventories for the current Night Market visit:
PLUTO
  • Special orders - Pluto can procure items just like Rastus, but she can get you specific goods from homeworlds. The more specific the request, the more it will cost. Items ordered through Pluto will arrive on the next ferry.

  • Heals - A borrowed gun-looking device allows Pluto to heal even the most grievous of injuries. This item doesn't belong to her, though, so... results may vary. If you want proper healing, you'll have to wait until the Night Market's medical unit shows up in the future.

  • GPS coordinates - Looking to discover more locations and resources out in the forest? Pluto can hook you up with hints to do just that.

  • Lantern charms - These charms can be attached to your lantern to provide BENEFITS as well as DRAWBACKS. The following charms are currently on display, with these labels attached: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence, Charisma. You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Pluto for more information.

AARAVOS
  • Drugs - You want it? He's probably got it! Cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, and pretty much whatever else you can dream up is worth inquiring about.

  • Magic potions - These potions last for no more than 24 hours unless otherwise noted. The following potions are currently on display, with these labels attached: Hair change, genderswap, body swap, love potion, luck potion, night vision, weather in a bottle, fake an injury, invisibility potion, furry shit, daemon shit. What does all of this crap do, exactly? You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Aaravos for more information.

  • Lantern charms - These charms can be attached to your lantern to provide BENEFITS as well as DRAWBACKS. The following charms are currently on display, with these labels attached: Disguise, Energy Boost, Charmer. You'll be given instructions for use at the time of purchase, or you can try asking Aaravos for more information.

MICHELLE
  • Handcrafted paper contraptions - Michelle can craft nearly anything out of paper, and don't let the lightness fool you—she can make her paper sharp and solid as steel. As long as you keep it out of the water (or do something to protect it from water damage yourself), your one-of-a-kind paper contraption is built to last! (She'll accept the typical Night Market currencies, as well as payment in the form of books. Any book will do! She'll even provide something to help you if you chose to go on a mission to steal a book for her from the library. These library stealth missions can be handwaved while making purchases from Michelle; just let us know in the form below if you'd like to pursue this.)

DR. SCHICKSAL'S HINT-O-MATIC
  • AMA - Does your character have any burning questions they just need to have answered? Dr. Schicksal's Hint-O-Matic is a phonebooth-looking device with a screen prompting the user to input a question. When a question is asked, Dr. Schicksal's Hint-O-Matic will spout out an answer! Questions can be typed in via keypad or spoken aloud, and answers will be automatically read aloud for characters that can't read the screen. These answers are always true, no matter what the question, but this information comes at a cost—your character will be blessed with a random status effect for the remainder of the month. We will check permissions posts before issuing a status effect, so there's your hint for what to expect. 😃 And, yes, you can literally ask anything.
•••

Other than the vendors, the Night Market has brought with them the following attractions:
  • COFFEE CART - The coffee cart offers every variety of hot drink a person could fathom, and it's complimentary! A few small tables have been set up in front of the cart around an outdoor heater, glowing happily as it warms this little section of dock.

  • CANDY SHOP - Sweet treats offered at the candy shop are also free for the taking, but be careful—some treats carry with them a random status effect that will last for the next hour. The treats and resulting status effects are left entirely up to you players, so feel free to create your own hijinx! This is us trusting you not to break the game, so don't abuse this privilege, and feel free to ask us if you're unsure about limitations! Not all treats will produce an effect, but those that do will have no tells, meaning characters will not be able to strategize when eating the candy. (In meta terms: if you want your character to engage in wacky bullshit, but they're a party pooper and hate fun and wouldn't willingly indulge, this is your opportunity to trick them into shenanigans.)

  • CARNIVAL GAMES - The small section of carnival games includes ring toss, skeeball, balloon darts, a shooting gallery, a fishing game, a plinko game, and an RC racing game with toy vehicles. The rules are all somewhat nebulous, but feel free to play out your characters interacting with these games on your own! They're all free to play, and prizes include knitted forest spirit plushies, wind-up goldfish that float through the air, and buckets of those plastic spider rings and finger topper guys that cost like one ticket apiece at Swings-N-Things.

  • WHACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBE MEN - They are also here, and they have a jukebox with them with an unfathomably large selection of songs. This area of the dock is probably meant for dancing.
•••

Finally, though you can trade with the various NPC vendors in this log, check out the new Night Market Purchases page for fast-tracked transactions.

All the coffee

[He had never had such delicious coffee before. It was rich, strong, and actually had some flavor to it. The First Order didn't exactly have such luxuries and he had to spend limited resources on other, more practical things. He could feel himself wake up a bit more, some more energy. It was better than a stim shot.

Come join him shotgunning all different cups of coffee or judge him how many shots of espresso he can drink in one go without his heart exploding at the sheer amount of caffeine.]

All the food and general festival fun

What is this?

[He held up a big of gummy bears but the vender had already moved away leaving him with the candy. Candy wasn't exactly something that was First Order approved- it would be a frivolous expense without any practical purpose.

The display of candy was strange to him, he couldn't imagine how anyone would even eat some of the things such as the large lollipops which seemed to be composed of a hard surface that could crack teeth.

He wasn't interested in the games, especially since at one point he's walking around with two bottles of whiskey which he considered rather valuable after what it had taken to get it.]

Oh, looks like you hit the jackpot.

( sorry hux, you probably weren't going to have a better day with ambrose's arrival. he grins and pokes the bag of gummy bears before laughing. )

You eat it. They're chewy. They might turn that frown upside down.
therewillbeorder: ([89])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[The frown remained in place for now as he picked up one of the pieces of gummy from the bag. He couldn't recognize the shape it was in which made it all the more confusing. It seemed to be an animal of some kind but he had never seen it before.]

What is it made of? I don't see the appeal of eating something that feels like rubber.
necromantiae: (THREE)

[personal profile] necromantiae 2019-12-15 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
( your face was going to stick that way, hux. )

Sugar and spice and everything nice. It doesn't feel like rubber. Come on, try one. And if you hate it, I'll...take them off your hands and eat them for you.

( not a bad offer, he thinks. )
therewillbeorder: ([13])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-16 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Too late for that!]

Spice? That hardly sounds appetizing.

[But he would give it a try. He bit into the gummy tentatively. He didn't recognize the favor, only that it was really sweet, sweeter than anything he had ever tasted before.]

How does anyone handle that much sugar?
necromantiae: (TWENTY SIX)

[personal profile] necromantiae 2019-12-16 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you never had sugar before?

( is that what he's hearing? )

No sugar where you come from?
therewillbeorder: ([15])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-17 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Not in such quantities. Sweets like this are not part of our rations.

[He picked up a gummy of another color. The first one hadn't been unpleasant but he didn't like the flavor. Perhaps this one would be different.]

Are these common on your planet?
necromantiae: (EIGHTEEN)

[personal profile] necromantiae 2019-12-17 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Fairly common. They're not the world's most popular candy but they're pretty good.

( what you really needed to get your hands on was chocolate. )

It's good for a change when you don't want to eat anymore chocolate. I hope you've had chocolate.
therewillbeorder: ([4])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-17 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No, chocolate is a luxury that I've never indulged in. It's not exactly common in many parts of the galaxy.

[He could get it if he really wanted it but he never had the desire to since he had more important things to do. He set aside the bag of gummies, deciding that he didn't really like it.]
necromantiae: (ONE HUNDRED SEVEN)

[personal profile] necromantiae 2019-12-17 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Never?

( oh, that just wouldn't do. time to treat yourself! )

Look, let's go find some chocolate right now and I'll buy. Just because everyone has to have chocolate once in their life.
therewillbeorder: ([15])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-17 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I rarely venture planetside, I spend most of my time on ships deep in the outreaches of the galaxy.

[He wasn't used to treating himself to anything other than some tartine tea and maybe a glass of nice whiskey once in a while. He wasn't sure whether to trust Ambrose or not but the other man didn't seem to recognize him, he doubted he had any motivation to poison him.]

Alright, I suppose there is no harm in trying some.

antiwhat: (🎵 do we need the first aid kit?)

coffee;

[personal profile] antiwhat 2019-12-17 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ellever has poked around a few of the vendors by the time her nose makes a note of the smell of coffee. She has nothing she'd care to part with, and thus finds herself at the coffee cart in short order. There's been a caffeine-shaped hole in her life for some time now and she fully intends to make use of this cart as much as she can, before she starts feeling vaguely guilty.

But the first cup is black and just goes straight down. She sighs quietly, with some satisfaction, before glancing at the man who seems to be similarly pleased about the cart's existence. ]

Pretty magical, isn't it?

[ Is she being literal or not? Who knows. ]
therewillbeorder: ([10])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-17 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Hux feels no guilt. He had spent decades drinking bland caf when needed a caffeine boost and the medical droid wouldn't give him a stim shot.

He took another coffee that apparently was a dark roast as he looked at Ellever. If this was sorcery, he had no complaints so far.]

It's certainly luxurious. I've never had anything like it.
antiwhat: (🎵 orrrrrrly?)

[personal profile] antiwhat 2019-12-18 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ She raises her brows curiously. ]

Coffee? Or a cart that has... so many varieties of drinks?

[ There's a frankly amazing variety to the cart. Part of Ellever wishes she'd gone for something more exotic. But the first cup had just gone down the hatch and that would have been a real waste. Besides, she can go for something better now, squinting at the list on the cart's wall. ]
therewillbeorder: ([9])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-18 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
The variety. The rations I'm used to has one kind of coffee and that's it.

[It was enough that he had specially ordered a kind of tea. Ordering special caf would be too much even for someone of his rank.]

And certainly not of this quality.
antiwhat: (🎵 yeah cool.)

[personal profile] antiwhat 2019-12-19 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Only one kind? [ The people back in LA would be appalled, she thinks, with a slight smile at him. ] Doesn't sound very exciting.

[ Ellever isn't strictly tea-or-coffee, she likes to mix it up. This cart is pretty fabulous for that reason. She gets herself a chai tea for her second cup of warm loveliness, turning back to Hux while blowing on it. ]

It's only been a month and a half for me, and I'm already missing coffee shops.
therewillbeorder: ([89])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-21 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You have entire shops just for coffee?

[He had spent his entire life in the Outer Rim and the Unknown Regions so that baffled him. It sounded like something that would only exist in the central systems in the galaxy, the kind of luxury he had never known.]

That seems rather excessive.
antiwhat: (🎵 haha.)

[personal profile] antiwhat 2019-12-25 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her smile grows, just a tad, as she shrugs her shoulders. ]

Well, most of them also serve tea and hot chocolate. But yeah. Coffee's a... really big thing where I'm from. It's got its own culture of drinkers. Coffee versus tea is a popular debate topic. ...it can get excessive. Especially the fancy places.
therewillbeorder: ([52])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You must live on a very wealthy planet if there are time and resources devoted to such things.

[Nowhere in the Outer Rim and the Unknown Territories had that kind of luxury, he couldn't even imagine it. It reminded him of what he disliked about Core planets, places coddled in luxury without understanding the realities of life.]

It must be nice to be able to focus on things like that.
antiwhat: (🎵 oops.)

[personal profile] antiwhat 2019-12-29 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ellever's head tilts to the side as he says wealthy planet, trying to form a cohesive idea of Earth. Earth, with all of its... chaos. It's not really one place. It's many places. Some of those places are amazing and some of them are horrifying. ]

Ah, well. [ She tilts her head back the other way quickly, an unconscious movement as she gathers those thoughts. ] Parts are. The part I'm from qualifies, but not everyone there is on the same social and economic level. So you get people whining about who makes the best coffee and then people who can't afford to pay their bills. [ Dryly, ] It's great.

[ Ellever's nose wrinkles, the reality of where she is and what probably happened when she'd died rearing its ugly head before her expression smooths out. An apocalypse is surely a way to even out the classes. ]

Do planets where you're from have a lot of cohesion? Like... one government per planet?

[ The exclamation, mixed with what she's holding causes her to stop in her tracks, because really. Who doesn't know what a gummy bear is? ]

A... gummy... bear?

[ She stutters out, just in case they aren't joking around. Different universes and all that. Note to self Coraline. Man, maybe she could win one? Put it in the cabin for display... or to eat later.

Yum. ]
therewillbeorder: ([13])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-21 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen anything like it. What does it taste like?

We don't have such things where I'm from.
primordialerebus: (WorriedD)

[personal profile] primordialerebus 2019-12-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... sweet and... maybe apple? I feel like green's usually apple... that or lime...

[ Does she need to explain those fruits to him? Maybe? Let's do it just in case. ]

Those are uh... fruits by the way.
therewillbeorder: ([100])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2019-12-24 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
What's an apple?

[Fruit wasn't exactly plentiful on star destroyers in the depths of space. He was used to rations that were practical. There wasn't room for perishable items even on the large capital ships.]

I've never heard of a fruit by that name.

[personal profile] primordialerebus 2020-01-06 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She opens and closes her mouth a couple of times, unsure of how to answer with this big of a cultural gap in the way. How does one explain an apple? One of the most ubiquitous fruits ever (in her world anyways).

Thinking this might be a possibility vs. it actually happening is… ]

Uh… it’s just like… a fruit I guess? Sweet… tart… kinda crunchy… it’s from my world.

[ She’s internally screaming right now. ]
