INTRO LOG: DECEMBER

INTRO LOG: DECEMBER
IF I HAD A HEART

characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: december 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. robin posts a bulletin.
warnings: n/a.

welcome to beacon.

It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.

You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern glowing with a healthy flame.

You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.

Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.

In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.

•••

The ferry has barely docked when everyone's tablets will ping: A new weekly bulletin has been posted!

...Aaaaaanyway, luckily for all the newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.

ooc.

Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! You've happened to come at a chaotic time, as we've just wrapped up a rather large event. Half the town was stuck in a dreamland version of past Beacon, where they explored for clues about the town's history. The other half stayed awake and defended the town from a brutal onslaught of green-eyed, hallucination-inducing forest spirits. The town's pretty haggard after all that, so hey, there's a conversation starter! It'll be good to have some fresh faces around to help with the recovery process.

You can check out the various Enter Mr. Sandman event posts in the OOC and log comms if you're curious, and plenty of the details will likely come up ICly, as well! The aftermath is just beginning, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride. :)

DELIVERIES

The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
  • The monthly store restock
  • For Eliot: A carton of cigarettes
  • For Prompto: 17 pairs of reading glasses
  • For Eleven: A pair of walkie-talkies, and enough batteries to last for 3 months of casual use
  • For Aziraphale: 12 drums, 11 lead pipes, 10 pairs of shoes, 9 wilting corsages, 8 bottles of milk, 7 taxidermy swans, 6 goose eggs, 5 stale onion rings, 4 bins full of duck armies, 3 dead chickens, 2 turtles, and a whole tree, though it's long dead... and strung with lights and garlands and holiday ornaments!
  • For Kol: A book
  • For Crowley: Peppermint extract, cream of tartar, a candy thermometer, a tin of cocoa, graham crackers, a generic bottle of red wine, a t-shirt with a crown logo on it, a book of love poems, and the goods
  • For Eleven: An assortment of wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons, bows, and gift bags.
  • A lot of medical supplies. The supplies are plentiful enough that everyone may handwave finding common first aid supplies that will help to triage injuries sustained during the Enter Mr. Sandman event. The supplies won't immediately cure wounds, but they will help to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. There's even an assortment of painkillers, ranging from over the counter pills to IV morphine (though, hm, it seems each character will only be able to find one dose of the hospital-grade stuff, no matter how hard they search)

If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

It's Only a Bad Dream; Closed to Akira
[These mine shafts go on forever it seemed like. Throughout the time that Akira may have been near Goro, he might have noticed that whatever he's dreaming about was not fun at all. Finally, he woke up in sheer panic. Probably sweating bullets, he was having a hard time catching his breath. But more than panic, he felt anger. Rage from these spirits that were tormenting them. It was probably going to get a lot worse. Dressed in his white attire, he threw his mask onto the ground, looking around to try to find Aziraphile and Molly. When he finally looked around, he noticed that he wasn't in a mine anymore. It looked like he was in his apartment. Was he carried back home or...? What was going on?!

That's when he went to throw the covers off of him and get out of bed to search for them. Too bad in his impatience he forgot that he can't walk right now. So the moment he put his weight on his foot, he suddenly felt the phantom pains from his sliced tendons near his ankle. In an instance, he tumbled down to the ground in pain, reaching for his ankle.

Wait... The bottom of his white (because it had to be white of all colors) trousers were not stained red with blood. Neither were his shoes or socks. And his ankle was... Immediately checking his other ankle and it seemed completely fine too. What the hell was going on? He was so shocked that he wasn't even paying attention to the fact that Akira might have been in his apartment at that time or if he wasn't, he probably was now with all the noise.]

The Invincible; Open to all
[Once Goro has gotten past all of the information trade with Akira about what happened, he'll eventually stumble downstairs to get something to eat in his normal attire. He's having a hard time walking, almost like he's limping and attempting not to fall over again and lose balance. He could have gotten worse injuries than this, so he would consider himself lucky. Molly and Aziraphale got it a whole lot worse than he did. He'd have to eventually contact them to make sure they're okay, but for the time being he just wanted to catch up on what was happening himself. Some done time was much needed.

The first thing he's noticed though is that the Invincible looks like a mess. It had windows boarded up and there were clear signs that fighting too place either inside or around it. He's not too surprised after hearing about it from Akira at the very least, but it was still so surreal to see it himself. So while he was "dreaming", this is what really was happening... He'd have to look into what other people experienced. He'd been stuck in a mine shaft, so unlike other dreamers who went to Beacon's past, he had no idea that there had been light in any way past the lanterns.

Feel free to talk to him while he's eating or mingling to see what's been happening.]

A. Awake
[The deafening rumble of the collapsing cavern quiets, transforming into low, gentle creaks. Duster wakes up to a dark room and the sensation of being rocked. Despite the terror he felt, grabbing out to his friends at the end of the world, feeling the floor disappear beneath him, the rocks above...

It's comforting. Maybe things will be okay.

Except for that foghorn that drove that peaceful notion away.

He pushes himself up and searching the room for the others. He's alone. If he hadn't just died (or did he?), he'd think he'd been rescued and safe in someone's guest room. The flat screen is worrisome. Duster hasn't seen something like this, but it's easier to find answers by walking around than staying in one room. He tucks the tablet into a back pocket, squeezing a few snacks around, holds the lantern high in one hand, and leaves his room.

To those nearby, a man with a distinctive limp slowly makes his way through the dark corridor, towards the back just in case something important is back there. Unsurprisingly, he runs into someone else there. Assuming it to be an ally, he holds the lamp out to get a better view of their face and mutters a name. A question. Does he know you?]

B. Beach
[Duster has always found comfort in the night. It's a time when he can be alone with his thoughts and watch over the landscape. It's difficult to do that when all there is to see is the sea and the lighthouse. He turns away from the group, standing on a rock to watch the distant spinning light and listening to the disquieting rumble of the music.]

C. Church
...This is the biggest shrine I've ever seen.

[It's beautiful. Apparently, the people who built this wanted visitors to be awed by its splendor, and it's working. He sits on the floor, setting the lantern beside him, and lies on his back. The first time he's been able to relax after dying. There's a lot to take in, but some time going over his inventory won't hurt.

He still has the Egg, which...might not be useful here if he doesn't know how it works. He still has his tools and some supplies he had on him in the caverns. He removes his small collection of Thief Tools, which include a mask, some kind of bug, and giant stables. Nothing damaged. And there's that flat screen.

Might as well figure it out. Everyone else was using it without complaint.

It'll take time, considering that he's typing with one finger.]

okay okay so

who's looking to be hired? i'll give whoever can get me off this planet and back to Prometha seven thousand dollars. More, if you can do it without, like, a lot of shooting and gore and death. Or, hey, if you can get in contact with a guy named Zer0? Any of the above. Reaaaaally not picky.

A, the one where he runs into a spirit;

[It's not that he intentionally strayed close to the edge of the woods. But he was looking for housing beyond the Invincible, and he crossed a bridge, and you know what, this is why he hates nature. Give him a city any day, not a place where things crawl out of the woods to talk to you.]

Oh . . . . hhhhhey.

[Because, see, that sure is a very tall spirit staring down at him. Holy shit. Um. He glances frantically around for a split second, and glory be, there's someone nearby.]

Do, um . . . do skag rules apply, do you think, I mean, do you play dead or try and intimidate it or . . . what would be best in this situation, do you think . . .

B, the one where he's failing to hack something;

[There's a man with a glowing blue eye sitting at the back of the Invincible, muttering to himself. Which is odd, honestly, even for Beacon, because it's usually the spirits you have to watch out for, not random strange men muttering. But here we are, and he's grimacing as he gestures towards his tablet again and again, alternating between typing frantically and glaring hard at it.]

Come on, you stupid piece of--

[LET YOURSELF BE HACKED.]

...Is everything alright?

I. Post-Sandman - Nov 30

After coming back from dying (oops), the Soldier splits their time between the Invincible and the church. Waiting for Crowley and Lunafreya to come back. Because they absolutely saw them fly away and ran after them and watched them die, because they need that angst on top of everything else. Patrols are doubled, which means even less rest, because so many people are injured and a few more are dead. By the time people start to wake up, the Soldier is exhausted, but still trudging along.

The sight of people stirring as he marches through with a bowl of soup and a thick slice of bread, trying to refuel before going back out, means lunch is forgotten. They crouch down to check pulses for speed changes and pat cheeks, as if that might help people wake up faster.

II. At the Ferry

Look, the Soldier tries to help unload the ferry. Really, they do. It's just that after dying and three days post-dying with no sleep and even less rest, they have no reserves left. They keep picking up a box, getting halfway off the dock with it, and forgetting what they were doing, just kind of zoning out in the middle of the pathway with a box on one shoulder and another under their arm.

Speaking to them earns a sleepy kind of blink and a, "Sorry. What?" Physically touching them gets a violent shy away, a dropped box, and a drawn knife, though at least not an actual stab.

Somebody herd the poor murder machine somewhere to sit down and make them stop trying to work.

[What's upsetting him, more or less, is what's on screen: a lot of long strings of letters and numbers. Each time his eye flares, the entire screen jolts and shudders, a program entitled rhyz_winz appearing and disappearing.]

Hacking a tablet like this is, like, programming 101. I could do this when I was ten. But it won't give.

Yep. Parents were pretty, uh, encouraging of my talents.

[They probably shouldn't have been, in retrospect, but also, it shut him up and made him happy, so.]

I mean, they let me get this-- [He flexes the fingers of his metallic hand]-- when I was sixteen, so.

I. Post-Event - Nov 30

Sleeping for two weeks is... new. But Stone is vaguely familiar with similar magic, given his colony's sister-queen and several warriors once got stuck in a magical time-sink. So he's taking this slightly better than some.

He finds food, he pats shoulders and heads and backs of worried defenders and confused wakers alike, and eventually goes outside to survey the damage and take a short flight. Got to make sure his wings still work after so long not using them.

II. Not Helping

Stone is decidedly Not Helping unload the ferry. He's watching, and greeting newcomers with a smile, but he has to save his strength. There's a flight in the offing once the ferry leaves port, and he wants to be as well-rested as possible. He does do some directing if people don't know where to put things, but mostly he's just waiting patiently for the ferry to leave.

III. Exploration Time - closed to Bodhi and Rosinante

When the ferry pushes off from the dock, Stone shifts up into his winged form-- seventy-foot wingspan, colorless scales, general dragon-y shape-- in a cloud of dark mist, then scoops up Bodhi (and Bodhi's tablet), nods to Rosinante on the shore, and takes off to glide after it. Time to see what the portal looks like these days, hopefully, if it's anything like what he, Eliot, and Matt saw in the dream.

He can't talk, but he can make various sounds of annoyance, agreement, and encouragement, and tap at Bodhi in his hands with one finger to remind him to check the tablet for Rosinante's pings or to take pictures of things.

BON VOYAGE.
closed to newcomers!
( when she flung herself into matricide for the good of the entire planet (and mostly for the good of Laura Hollis), she really wasn't expecting to wake up shortly after on the afterlife cruise into eternal darkness. it's not very scenic. if yelp existed, she'd give it 2 stars. the lantern is a cute touch, but a little old fashioned for her tastes. she left those behind in the 1800s just like the rest of humanity.

she gets up begrudgingly, finding the only thing different about this second layer of afterlife is that she's alone, again, and she's got a bit of a headache. might have to do with all the screaming that was going down in the angler fish pit, might have to do with the sword of hastur sucking her soul out and dumping it here, you know, whatever. she collects her things (including the stupid sword), trudges into the dark and gloomy hall, and frowns. it's when she's found the deck that she runs into someone else, and while she's not feeling entirely social, maybe someone has a better idea of what the hell is going on than she does.
)

Are you dead too? This is not how I pictured Charon's ferry.

( not to imply it's better. Charon's sounded way more her aesthetic, to be perfectly honest. )

PLUNDER DOWN UNDER.
( she's wandered around a bit on shore, and she's heard a bit of the spiel about where they are, what is happening, and she's currently doing her best to Ignore It by poking her nose into other things. which means she's scoping out the contents of the ferry, curiously eyeing anything she can find and then carelessly tossing anything that does not interest her.

it takes a bit of browsing before she runs into the medical supplies. that's not up her general alley, her liquid diet usually means she doesn't need a lot of band aids. still, she finds at least one thing that is of interest, a cooler of blood bags, of varying varieties. she stares down at it, mildly amused.
)

Well, that's a freebie. ( she's having a real Maeby moment. she twirls a bag in her fingers and then closes the top again, easily hefting up the entire container. maybe she's taking it to help all the injured??? ? she spots the concerned confused look and makes sure to clarify to the stranger watching her, ) Don’t worry. I’ve got it. Actually, can you carry this?

( oh my bad, she’s not clarifying anything. she’s just shoving a magic sword at a stranger so she can spirit off her stolen blood easier. )

NETWORK OPTION.
so is there a reason the store looks like party city's discount section threw up, or...?

secondary inquiry, where is the alcohol in this place? i'm not buying there isn't any.

WILDCARD.
( wanna do something different? have an idea? hit me with it! you can catch me via pm or plurk at [plurk.com profile] meowed! also i'd love if you'd check out carm's permissions! )
