INTRO LOG: DECEMBER

INTRO LOG: DECEMBER
IF I HAD A HEART

characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: december 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. robin posts a bulletin.
warnings: n/a.

welcome to beacon.

It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.

You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern glowing with a healthy flame.

You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.

Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.

In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.

•••

The ferry has barely docked when everyone's tablets will ping: A new weekly bulletin has been posted!

...Aaaaaanyway, luckily for all the newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.

ooc.

Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! You've happened to come at a chaotic time, as we've just wrapped up a rather large event. Half the town was stuck in a dreamland version of past Beacon, where they explored for clues about the town's history. The other half stayed awake and defended the town from a brutal onslaught of green-eyed, hallucination-inducing forest spirits. The town's pretty haggard after all that, so hey, there's a conversation starter! It'll be good to have some fresh faces around to help with the recovery process.

You can check out the various Enter Mr. Sandman event posts in the OOC and log comms if you're curious, and plenty of the details will likely come up ICly, as well! The aftermath is just beginning, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride. :)

DELIVERIES

The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
  • The monthly store restock
  • For Eliot: A carton of cigarettes
  • For Prompto: 17 pairs of reading glasses
  • For Eleven: A pair of walkie-talkies, and enough batteries to last for 3 months of casual use
  • For Aziraphale: 12 drums, 11 lead pipes, 10 pairs of shoes, 9 wilting corsages, 8 bottles of milk, 7 taxidermy swans, 6 goose eggs, 5 stale onion rings, 4 bins full of duck armies, 3 dead chickens, 2 turtles, and a whole tree, though it's long dead... and strung with lights and garlands and holiday ornaments!
  • For Kol: A book
  • For Crowley: Peppermint extract, cream of tartar, a candy thermometer, a tin of cocoa, graham crackers, a generic bottle of red wine, a t-shirt with a crown logo on it, a book of love poems, and the goods
  • For Eleven: An assortment of wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons, bows, and gift bags.
  • A lot of medical supplies. The supplies are plentiful enough that everyone may handwave finding common first aid supplies that will help to triage injuries sustained during the Enter Mr. Sandman event. The supplies won't immediately cure wounds, but they will help to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. There's even an assortment of painkillers, ranging from over the counter pills to IV morphine (though, hm, it seems each character will only be able to find one dose of the hospital-grade stuff, no matter how hard they search)

If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

BON VOYAGE.
closed to newcomers!
( when she flung herself into matricide for the good of the entire planet (and mostly for the good of Laura Hollis), she really wasn't expecting to wake up shortly after on the afterlife cruise into eternal darkness. it's not very scenic. if yelp existed, she'd give it 2 stars. the lantern is a cute touch, but a little old fashioned for her tastes. she left those behind in the 1800s just like the rest of humanity.

she gets up begrudgingly, finding the only thing different about this second layer of afterlife is that she's alone, again, and she's got a bit of a headache. might have to do with all the screaming that was going down in the angler fish pit, might have to do with the sword of hastur sucking her soul out and dumping it here, you know, whatever. she collects her things (including the stupid sword), trudges into the dark and gloomy hall, and frowns. it's when she's found the deck that she runs into someone else, and while she's not feeling entirely social, maybe someone has a better idea of what the hell is going on than she does.
)

Are you dead too? This is not how I pictured Charon's ferry.

( not to imply it's better. Charon's sounded way more her aesthetic, to be perfectly honest. )

PLUNDER DOWN UNDER.
( she's wandered around a bit on shore, and she's heard a bit of the spiel about where they are, what is happening, and she's currently doing her best to Ignore It by poking her nose into other things. which means she's scoping out the contents of the ferry, curiously eyeing anything she can find and then carelessly tossing anything that does not interest her.

it takes a bit of browsing before she runs into the medical supplies. that's not up her general alley, her liquid diet usually means she doesn't need a lot of band aids. still, she finds at least one thing that is of interest, a cooler of blood bags, of varying varieties. she stares down at it, mildly amused.
)

Well, that's a freebie. ( she's having a real Maeby moment. she twirls a bag in her fingers and then closes the top again, easily hefting up the entire container. maybe she's taking it to help all the injured??? ? she spots the concerned confused look and makes sure to clarify to the stranger watching her, ) Don’t worry. I’ve got it. Actually, can you carry this?

( oh my bad, she’s not clarifying anything. she’s just shoving a magic sword at a stranger so she can spirit off her stolen blood easier. )

NETWORK OPTION.
so is there a reason the store looks like party city's discount section threw up, or...?

secondary inquiry, where is the alcohol in this place? i'm not buying there isn't any.

WILDCARD.
( wanna do something different? have an idea? hit me with it! you can catch me via pm or plurk at [plurk.com profile] meowed! also i'd love if you'd check out carm's permissions! )

... Sure?

[He may be injured but he was still coming to lend a hand. The bandages sit mostly under his fresh clothing aside from a gauze pad taped above one eyebrow, and so he looks and feels better off than most here. He knows he's fortunate to have come out of that mess poked full of holes and struggling to walk with one mauled leg and twisted ankle, but nothing physically missing other than some blood.

So while he'd been reaching for the box, he ends up with a sword. All right then.]

I don't mind giving you a hand with that if you need it, though. Is this your sword?
vampirella: (0056)

[personal profile] vampirella 2019-12-02 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
( wow. he's a tall drink of water, isn't he? Carmilla does not seem to notice that he towers over her, or perhaps it's more of a distinct refusal to. she doesn't need to be 8 feet tall to be imposing, right? 5'3 can still be scary!

as chivalrous as the offer is, she shrugs.
)

I've got it. ( and she does seem to, no worries there. she's small, but she's pretty strong for a gothy coed. she has apparently found the only thing in the cargo bay she's interested in, so with that she heads for higher water. in this instance, the dock. she just seems to expect Rosiante to follow; after all, he did say he would carry her fancy magical sword.

is it hers? good question.
) Possession is 9/10s, right? ( so... not really, but kind of? she used it to murder her own mother, so, surely that denotes some kind of possession. ) I wouldn't clip anybody with it if I were you. It didn't work out for me, let's just put it that way. ( she figures that is obvious enough, when she just showed up here because she presumably died. don't say she never did anything kind for someone, okay, she could have just let Rosi kill himself and some random by nicking them on accident! ) What happened to you? This fancy death boat didn't have the decency to heal you before it dropped you here?

( she's assuming he's messed up because he died, though she'll be just delighted to know she could be torn to pieces to nearly die a third time by sheer nature of hanging out here. )
callada: (lurk moar)

[personal profile] callada 2019-12-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah he'll just tuck this through his belt for now, next to the sabre he took from Javert's stash during the siege, no intent to clip anybody or anything with it. Hopefully he doesn't somehow manage to cut himself. He follows her from the ferry to the dock in one long step, and follows along easily enough despite the slight limp. Sure, it slows him down a little, but that probably helps the others keep up with him.]

Been here five months now. We just came out of two weeks fighting for our lives against the forest spirits who live here.

[And they're certainly all still sore, in more ways than one. He's relieved to see a handful he thought had died are back now, helping out with the ferry and the newcomers, but mostly he just sounds tired.]
vampirella: (0072)

[personal profile] vampirella 2019-12-02 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
( it's probably for the best. she's not sure if there's a self inflicted injury loophole or if that'd somehow kill him twice. part of her had been tempted to fling the damn thing in the lake and just be done with it, but Mother taught her well to never throw out something she might want later. and while some mothers mean that about photos and yearbooks, Carmilla's meant it about deadly magical weapons that could at some point be handy against an overwhelming supernatural threat.

she'd also probably want to have it for herself, which is all the more reason Carmilla isn't exactly willing to part with it yet. she used it to kill Lilita, and died doing it. which meant her mother could be skulking around in the dark somewhere, and very angry at that. she might have use of that sword again, she might just have some other sucker do the stabbing this time around.
)

Jesus. Five months? I'm over it already, and it's been five minutes. ( it's been a little more than that, though 2 hours hadn't improved her opinion any more than the initial five minutes. ) Keep an eye out for the spooks that go bump in the night. Got it, big guy. Are you some sort of giant hybrid?

( hey, I guess she did notice he's tall! what do you know. )
callada: (dress best in boldly-striped sweaters)

[personal profile] callada 2019-12-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll give her credit for being the first person here to suggest that rather than just sounding completely baffled.]

No, not quite tall enough for that, am I? Just human.

[Then again, he's never met a giant hybrid. Maybe they come as small as him. Never met a giant either, though he's heard stories. Someone half giant would probably easily be at least double or triple his height, but that's just a guess.]

As for the spooks, some of the ones around town are mostly harmless, we think. You'll see a lot of them around. Just be cautious.

It was never great, but no. You can sleep soundly tonight knowing it's not usually this bad.

Some of the stuff in that store comes off the ferry every month, so we've gotta haul it over to the shop ourselves.

And we're not exactly in a heavy lifting mood right now.

The spirits? Not so great.

bon voyage

Not on purpose. [ Cheryl sounds a little defensive, but who can blame her for getting mad about being dead? she hasn't even been elected prom queen yet! that's not even to mention graduating high school, going to college, and moving away from Riverdale.

she glares out into the distance, feeling more than a little sour. although her lantern is completely to her taste (a stylized cage with the flame held a miniature candelabra), Cheryl has nothing else positive to say about death thus far. ]

I'll be seeking justice for how throughly I've been wronged. [ just putting it out there. ]
vampirella: (0093)

[personal profile] vampirella 2019-12-04 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
( hey, nothing wrong with being a little sour. Carmilla is more than sour, it's just that emoting doesn't work with her cool rocker vampire vibe. unless that emotion is Angry. and even still, that's usually reserved for her mother. internal suffering has always been more her style. )

Seeking justice from who?

( that sounds very dramatic. does ginger over here think death itself is here for her to speak to very sternly? no offense, but Cheryl reads a bit like "can I speak to the manager, but make it afterschool special". Carmilla can't see her getting a particularly juicy revenge, though she'd be happy to be surprised.

or maybe she thinks her murderer might be around... in that case, that sounds like a soap opera, and far more interesting than a sightseeing ferry ride in pitch darkness.
)
sweetwater: (006)

[personal profile] sweetwater 2019-12-04 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ can it just be all of the above? justice from death itself, and from Edgar Evernever, and while she's at it how about justice from both her parents? Cheryl's got a very long list of names and someone should have to pay for the tragedies that have befallen her. ]

I haven't decided yet, I just got here. [ it's snappier than it needs to be, but Cheryl doesn't feel sorry. why ask such a stupid question? someone must be in charge and when Cheryl finds out who it is, she intend to destroy them in true teenager fashion. ]

Doesn't it bother you that you've been brought here?
vampirella: (0062)

[personal profile] vampirella 2019-12-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
( Carmilla lifts hands in mock surrender at the snipping. that intonation implied a specific target, how was she supposed to know that Cheryl was willing to seek revenge on anyone remotely involved with inconveniencing her? she strolls toward the edge of the ferry to lean against the rusted-out rail, staring blithely at pitch-black water matched with the stunning contrast of pitch-black sky. wow, breathtaking.

does it bother her? oh yes, of course it does. she didn't stab her mother thinking she'd just transfer afterlife credits to an even more miserable existence than the last one she was in. at least in Styria occasionally her mother would stop sacrificing co-eds and she could mill around Europe for twenty years, indulging in whatever hedonism struck her at the moment.

she's not feeling many hedonistic vibes here. just black and misery. and despite that perfectly matching her wardrobe, it's a fucking boring way to live.
)

Well I'm not exactly loving it, Midge. But until we hit shore, we can't do much of anything.

[ Eleven reaches out to take hold of the sword on instinct more than anything, eyes wide at the weight of the blade. She doesn't have her powers, so she holds it awkwardly like any normal 14 year old girl would, and blinks at Carmilla with wide brown eyes. She looks unremarkable, except she wears a well made peacoat with rabbits on the pockets, and has visible scars on her throat that suggest claw marks. ]

... Yes.

[ Is she required to give it back? Well, the woman can retrieve it. Eleven will use it as her new weapon to defend herself with.

Ketara said to start small, find balance.

But then, why not start with the big sword. ]

I've... got it.
vampirella: (0060)

[personal profile] vampirella 2019-12-06 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
( as starter swords go, Eleven could do a lot better. one that kills you for successfully using it is pretty unhelpful, even if it did manage to successfully stop her mother and her ridiculous machinations. if there had been an option that didn't require suicide by sword, Carmilla would have for sure taken it. it was handy it could kill just about anything, but the stakes had to be pretty high for it to be worth it.

that said, the fact Carmilla hasn't hucked the thing into the lake is indicative enough that she's not giving it up. maybe it's stubborn spitefulness, maybe she feels obligated because she went through hell to get and use it. maybe she just wants to be prepared if her mother ended up with her and she has to give matricide another shot. still, apparently she has no issue with asking a preteen to carry it for her. what are health and safety risks, anyway?
)

You like you've went through hell, kid. ( meaning, the claw marks, not the adorable jacket. not Carm's taste, but even she can appreciate adorable for what it is. ) Are those from that big spirit attack nobody will shut up about, or something else?
