INTRO LOG: DECEMBER

INTRO LOG: DECEMBER
IF I HAD A HEART

characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: december 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. robin posts a bulletin.
warnings: n/a.

welcome to beacon.

It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.

You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern glowing with a healthy flame.

You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.

Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.

In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.

•••

The ferry has barely docked when everyone's tablets will ping: A new weekly bulletin has been posted!

...Aaaaaanyway, luckily for all the newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.

ooc.

Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! You've happened to come at a chaotic time, as we've just wrapped up a rather large event. Half the town was stuck in a dreamland version of past Beacon, where they explored for clues about the town's history. The other half stayed awake and defended the town from a brutal onslaught of green-eyed, hallucination-inducing forest spirits. The town's pretty haggard after all that, so hey, there's a conversation starter! It'll be good to have some fresh faces around to help with the recovery process.

You can check out the various Enter Mr. Sandman event posts in the OOC and log comms if you're curious, and plenty of the details will likely come up ICly, as well! The aftermath is just beginning, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride. :)

DELIVERIES

The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
  • The monthly store restock
  • For Eliot: A carton of cigarettes
  • For Prompto: 17 pairs of reading glasses
  • For Eleven: A pair of walkie-talkies, and enough batteries to last for 3 months of casual use
  • For Aziraphale: 12 drums, 11 lead pipes, 10 pairs of shoes, 9 wilting corsages, 8 bottles of milk, 7 taxidermy swans, 6 goose eggs, 5 stale onion rings, 4 bins full of duck armies, 3 dead chickens, 2 turtles, and a whole tree, though it's long dead... and strung with lights and garlands and holiday ornaments!
  • For Kol: A book
  • For Crowley: Peppermint extract, cream of tartar, a candy thermometer, a tin of cocoa, graham crackers, a generic bottle of red wine, a t-shirt with a crown logo on it, a book of love poems, and the goods
  • For Eleven: An assortment of wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons, bows, and gift bags.
  • A lot of medical supplies. The supplies are plentiful enough that everyone may handwave finding common first aid supplies that will help to triage injuries sustained during the Enter Mr. Sandman event. The supplies won't immediately cure wounds, but they will help to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. There's even an assortment of painkillers, ranging from over the counter pills to IV morphine (though, hm, it seems each character will only be able to find one dose of the hospital-grade stuff, no matter how hard they search)

If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

[ Castiel blinks slowly at the offered decoration. Too blue eyes linger on Aziraphale for a moment. There's something closed off and guarded about Castiel, but he can't quite hide everything - his grace is in his lantern. It's not full, because he used his powers and hasn't recovered fully, but mostly the usual restless swirl of light in his lantern is holding itself very still.

Despite this, he reaches out and takes the... 'mistletoe'.

His eyes rise to Aziraphale's slowly, again. ]

It's... paper.

Well yes, dear, but we didn't have real mistletoe, so I had to make do. I think it looks quite real, don't you?

[ It doesn't but it's dark and hey, it's the thought that counts, right? ]

The humans do love mistletoe. I was rather hoping to cheer them up a little after-- well, you know.

[ It doesn't. Castiel looks skeptical, but doesn't have the heart to say so out loud. Aziraphale is... strangely gentle, for an angel. Ill advised to think him incapable or meet, but Castiel, used to quite different company among the Host, is still reeling. ]

After

[ He says it with the tone of someone who understands, and doesn't need elaboration. Castiel has issues with what happened.

Still, despite that, something creeps into his expression that... almost softens his features. It's subtle, but there. ]

And you believe paper baubles will lift the humans' spirits?
lunchbreaks: (Default)

[personal profile] lunchbreaks 2019-12-06 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I sure hope so.

[ He's used to angels being much ruder than this to him about inquiring to the odd behavior or humans or even of himself, in dealing with the humans. But most of the angels he's talked to never interact with them, really. ]

Humans very much like to decorate their homes for the holidays. And to celebrate. They are very social, you know, and I'd like to think they might take enjoyment in coming together after -- after we'd been so rudely splintered off.

[ He pauses, a little melancholy in his voice, but then continues. ]

There's a tradition with the berries that look like this in some of their communities. That if two of them should step under one, they must kiss. I think it's quite charming.

[personal profile] freetobe 2019-12-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Castiel inspects the bauble again.

Curious traditions they have, humans overall. Curious habits and views and quirks.

They're strange. He can't help the small fond ache over them.

Castiel isn't used to meeting other angels with a fondness for humanity. Other thanBalthazar and Gabriel perhaps, and their fondness... well. Had been of the more... sinful, extravagant, self-serving nature. ]

They do enjoy their physical affections.

[ Castiel holds the paper bauble differently then. Perhaps visibly more careful now that he understands the intent. ]

I'll help you.
lunchbreaks: (memories of yesterday's clouds)

[personal profile] lunchbreaks 2019-12-06 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Aziraphale is expecting for Castiel to say that's stupid or humans are silly creatures, and to hand the bauble back to him and leave. He isn't expecting his actual response, and he smiles so fondly. ]

Oh, really? That would be such a great help, dear fellow.

[ After all, Aziraphale only has so many hands and he's not sure he can reach up there. No room for wings. ]
freetobe: ([think] concern)

[personal profile] freetobe 2019-12-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ Castiel doesn't think he's ever been called 'dear' by any stretch. It frankly baffles him - but then so do many things. The time Dean called him practically family, the time Meg called him hot, the time Crowley called him sexy.

People, and demons are... strange.

So rather than reply, Castiel beats his wings. And with really moving at all, he stops being in one space, and appears in another, perched on the archway's slightly overhanging top. His wings, when physical, are sharp, cut for speed, sleek and black. But he's never had cause to make them physical, so all that gives their existence away is the rustle of feathers that accompanies Castiel's teleportation-like flight, and the displacement of air.

He crouches on the archway and fastens the... 'mistletoe'. ]

I've not spent much time on Earth, and even then spent little of it mingling. You seem to be much more well-versed.

Oh yes, I--

Well, you see. I was sent to guard Eden. If you remember Eden. And, well. I didn't do a very good job so I was.

Demoted.

To Principality, and have been on Earth ever since.

[ If that explains anything. Yes Castiel, it's okay to stop associating with him now. He understands. Lots of Angels do, or decide that he's not worth the time to care about one way or another. ]
freetobe: ([calm] upwards)

[personal profile] freetobe 2019-12-06 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ah - that certainly explains why he's never heard of Castiel, despite the Civil War, despite Castiel declaring himself God that one time and wiping out portions of the Host in the process. Shunned by other angels.

Castiel can relate to that part, at least, and nods to indicate he heard. ]

I was a soldier under my better's command for most of my existence.

[ He doesn't even look up from his task. Takes note of Aziraphale's admission, but doesn't gawk at him for it. ]

I was given my own command a few years ago, and led my garrison into Hell to save the Righteous Man. And when he rose up in defiance against the Divine Plan and the impending Apocalypse... so did I. I've recently been given to understand I've never functioned quite as designed, despite various... reeducations.

[ He says the word as if tastes bad on his tongue.

Nevertheless... rebellion, free thought. The Host isn't in favour, really.

If Aziraphale believes himself an outcast, Castiel will gladly position them in the same corner. Until Aziraphale inevitably finds out all Castiel did and condemns him, of course. ]

Your dedication to and care for humanity at large is admirable. I haven't always shared such notions. Now I believe the Host has long lost its way. We were meant to be their shepherds, no their doom.

[ He's slightly confused by all this terminology but when Castiel says that he helped stopped the Apocalypse, he doesn't even realize he mentioned reeducation. No, he what? He-- ]

Oh, Cassiel. I had-- I had no idea we had help, that any other Angels felt that ending the world was the wrong move.

That's what my.

[ Oh, yes, this is going to take a lot of explanation. ]

My partner and I-- you might see him around, he's a demon, I understand that's very unorthodox but I assure you, well, never you mind, it's unimportant -- but my partner and I were executed for our part in attempting to stop the Apocalypse from happening.

I daresay that you and we were quite successful in doing so, but he's been trying to come up with a way to return to Earth. As it turns out, I have discovered that angels can possess humans the way demons do, and so... we might have to ask for a little more human assistance to stop a second Armageddon from arising, but you won't be alone. We-- we won't be alone.

We'll just have to... solve the conundrum of the World Eaters first, and then we'll be on our way!

Crowley. The soldier told me of him, and I've spoken to him. You'll find no judgment on that part from me. I've... worked with one our of desperation, and found another to be...

[ Castiel stops himself.

Aziraphale said 'partner'. Castiel thinks of Meg and shoves the ache deep, deep down. Far away. No time to dwell. There never is time to dwell, to fall apart, to cope and heal.

Castiel soldiers on. He always does. ]

Your Crowley seemed... confused about the details of Lucifer being sent back in the cage. What was your role in how events unfolded?

[ He finishes fastening the mistle toe, beats his wings and joins Aziraphale on the ground once more. ]
lunchbreaks: (struggles all in vain)

[personal profile] lunchbreaks 2019-12-06 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He catches Castiel not finishing, and gives on a look of sympathy, but won't pry. It's not his place.

Besides, if it's any indication, Aziraphale also seems very confused by Lucifer being sent to a cage. Does he mean back to Hell? Of course he was sent back to Hell.
]

Well, we raised the boy we thought was the Antichrist, and then we sort of-- lost the Antichrist, and found the real one. Lovely boy, Adam. And he didn't want the Apocalypse after all.

So naturally he just... rewrote reality to make his adoptive father his real father.
