INTRO LOG: DECEMBER

INTRO LOG: DECEMBER
IF I HAD A HEART
characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: december 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. robin posts a bulletin.
warnings: n/a.
welcome to beacon.
It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.
You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern glowing with a healthy flame.
You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.
Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.
In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.•••
The ferry has barely docked when everyone's tablets will ping: A new weekly bulletin has been posted!
...Aaaaaanyway, luckily for all the newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.
ooc.
Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! You've happened to come at a chaotic time, as we've just wrapped up a rather large event. Half the town was stuck in a dreamland version of past Beacon, where they explored for clues about the town's history. The other half stayed awake and defended the town from a brutal onslaught of green-eyed, hallucination-inducing forest spirits. The town's pretty haggard after all that, so hey, there's a conversation starter! It'll be good to have some fresh faces around to help with the recovery process.
You can check out the various Enter Mr. Sandman event posts in the OOC and log comms if you're curious, and plenty of the details will likely come up ICly, as well! The aftermath is just beginning, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride. :)

DELIVERIES
The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
- The monthly store restock
- For Eliot: A carton of cigarettes
- For Prompto: 17 pairs of reading glasses
- For Eleven: A pair of walkie-talkies, and enough batteries to last for 3 months of casual use
- For Aziraphale: 12 drums, 11 lead pipes, 10 pairs of shoes, 9 wilting corsages, 8 bottles of milk, 7 taxidermy swans, 6 goose eggs, 5 stale onion rings, 4 bins full of duck armies, 3 dead chickens, 2 turtles, and a whole tree, though it's long dead... and strung with lights and garlands and holiday ornaments!
- For Kol: A book
- For Crowley: Peppermint extract, cream of tartar, a candy thermometer, a tin of cocoa, graham crackers, a generic bottle of red wine, a t-shirt with a crown logo on it, a book of love poems, and the goods
- For Eleven: An assortment of wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons, bows, and gift bags.
- A lot of medical supplies. The supplies are plentiful enough that everyone may handwave finding common first aid supplies that will help to triage injuries sustained during the Enter Mr. Sandman event. The supplies won't immediately cure wounds, but they will help to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. There's even an assortment of painkillers, ranging from over the counter pills to IV morphine (though, hm, it seems each character will only be able to find one dose of the hospital-grade stuff, no matter how hard they search)
If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

keith / ota
[there's a lot going on in keith's head right now -- too much, really, but rather than taking the time to sort through the complicated existential questions, he's choosing to dive headfirst into busy work. he may not know why he's here or how he even feels about having died and woken up alone, but he's going to pretend like none of that matters until after he's figured out his current predicament. naturally, that means exploring the ship he woke up on.
there's a lot that doesn't make sense, like the fact that he still has his armor, bayard and knife, but for now he's going to ignore the prompts on the tablet to enter a user name because he doesn't trust this mystery device and grab the lantern to go poking around the cargo hold with his lantern held in one hand and a sword held in the other.
his brow furrows as he moves the large stash of medical supplies around.]
Great. [it's muttered under his breath, though audibly so.] Why wouldn't this be a warzone.
[why else would there be so many of these kits around?]
B. Armory
[when he's done investigating the ship, he'll finally unboard and head towards becaon itself. There's a lot of ground to cover and not a whole lot that he understands, but he's getting the sense that this isn't a problem that's exclusive to him after having read through the log. But sometimes.... you stumble across an armory and things don't really have to be more complicated than simply stocking up on pointy stabby things.
he'll be examining the collection of swords and knives and testing out the blades. a trained eye will observe that he's clearly no amateur with melee weapons... though that said, it might cause a raised eyebrow to see that he's strapped two large swords to his back and has pocketed an extra knife or two. how many weapons does one person need... who knows.]
C. General Store
[time to check out other supplies available in beacon. Fortunately it seems like there's a decent amount of stuff readily available.... but he's still looking for something else, apparently. there's a frying pan and a large package of sugar in his hands when he approaches with a question.]
You see any potassium nitrate around?
[because obviously when you're dead in a strange place, you make smoke bombs. just in case.]
D. Network ( @ marmora )
[after he's gotten a better sense of beacon's layout, he'll finally obey the tablet's prompts to enter a user name and familiarize himself with the tablets functions as well as the network.]
newly dead here.
i want to look into exploring the area around beacon. other than the lighthouse which places should be avoided?
also seems like all the regular places to sleep are at capacity. anyone here good with construction projects? would appreciate a hand building a safe place to sleep.
E. Wildcard
[Feel free to hit me up with anything!]

Request a torch from the bonfire from Rastus and take it with you, just make sure to bring it back. Try to go in a group.
You've probably seen the newcomer's thing when you first used your tablet, it's still relevant. If you hear anything or find out anything you think might be useful try to get it into the log books. Around the end of each month somebody records what's in those books on the network.
no subject
what kind of hostiles have been encountered so far? the book mentioned something about spirits. can those be killed?
no subject
I wouldn't try to kill them but not because they're particularly powerful.
We might all be better off avoiding a fight if we can help it. Check the logbooks. They talk about the spirits we've encountered.
no subject
avoiding unnecessary conflict would be best but it's good to know what options are available in a pinch
are they the native residents of this world then? or were they brought here like we were?
[seeing as this planet is allegedly dead.]
no subject
no subject
has anyone tried asking them that directly?
(no subject)
why are you like this
...I'm sorry?
[ what...what kind of question... ]
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly do you need it for?
don't question the mad lad
[that's stated a little flatly. yes, he's aware of how that sounds, no he won't be shamed.]
Don't really want to take unnecessary risks while exploring out in the forest.
i'll question parakeet all i want
[ the worst part about all of this is that she actually does see his point. she'd be more enthusiastic if it weren't for, you know. dying and being dead. ]
I've never made one of those myself, but I can see how it'd be useful. Would you like some help?
hey now even pyrrha's not questioning him anymore...
[and with that said, he's back to looking around the shelves. his social graces are a pinch blunted considering the circumstances, but to his credit he does pause after a beat.]
I'm Keith, by the way.
that's because she's too nice >:///
[ once he starts searching, she does, too. would it be like dust? dust on remnant could definitely be used to make a smoke bomb of some sort. if that were the case then it might be packaged in some kind of viral...hm. ]
Keith. I'm Pyrrha. It's nice to meet you, despite the circumstances.
she still counts :/
[he turns and the lantern hanging off his armor may or may not be a little.. uh distinctive.]
The circumstances culd be a little better that's for sure. [putting it mildly.] Where are you from?
does she really :/
don't invalidate pyrrha :|
well I'LL still question teeth :|
:///////
don't give me that look pete
what if this is just his normal face huh
it's probably because everyone's always judging him
dont be like that
>:U
D ; @m.hughes
And I spent half the month in a coma...so I'm not the best to ask about places to avoid.
no subject
you don't happen to have two beds available, do you? turns out someone i know is here as well
and alright, i have to ask. is being in a coma... normal around here?
no subject
I do have a couch though if that's something you think you or your friend would be interested in. And I'm sure we could find a spare pillow and blanket somewhere.
I only arrived last month, so I don't know if it is or not. Certainly no one mentioned it to me!
no subject
but would that really be okay? it's a lot to be asking a stranger.
can i ask what happened? were you attacked?
no subject
Wait. Pidge?
[Maes looks back at the username, he hadn't made the connection before, but now that he has another familiar name it suddenly clicks. He remembers being at the Temple of Beginnings, throwing knives at a tree and Keith talking to him about knife throwing techniques and getting a look at his blade...the blade of marmora.
But if this was Keith, or at least the Keith he had met in the Circle, he hadn't recognized his name. It was probably like what had happened with Pidge when he'd met her in the library. Same name, same face, different timeline or reality or SOMETHING.
The multiverse could be so cruel sometimes.]
We met in the library earlier. Are you Keith then? We're less strangers than you might think, though explaining it might be easier to do in person...
The attack was more against those who weren't in a coma from what I've heard. There was this feast and apparently something in the food that made everyone who ate it fall asleep and dream about an alternate version of this place...one with a sun for starters.
no subject
ok. so we clearly have a lot to talk about. and we can do it in person
but i just want something clarified right now
did we meet here?
where can i find you?
[it doesn't seem likely -- someone would have recognized him by now, surely. but there's a lot more to untangle here and knowing how wacky the possibilities can get with alternate realities, this is the one he would like refuted definitively first.]

I'm happy to help with anything you need.
[Like please he really wants the distraction.]
no subject
and the help would be much appreciated. there are a few of us newcomers that were thinking of building a five bedroom cabin.
i dont know what passes for money here, but if there's a way i could pay you back i'd be glad to
no subject
[He can clearly not stress enough to please be as safe as possible. Please, he begs.]
That's okay, really! I don't need anything. I really just like the distraction. I feel more like myself when I'm building things, so that's payment enough.
no subject
what happens anyway if you cut down a tree belonging to a spirit?
[and since there's a lot of emphasis being placed on caution, it's obvious the repercussions aren't exactly great, but the question still has to be asked, doesn't it?]
what kind of things did you build while you were alive?
no subject
[As far as he knows, nobody's had to find out, and he absolutely doesn't plan on changing that.]
It doesn't matter how cute some of them are, or how friendly. They can and will absolutely kill you if you give them a reason.
[Building is a nicer topic, though.]
All sorts of things. Mostly miniatures, but the construction is the same process, just in a smaller scale. I do a lot of designs for houses, actually, and the furniture that goes inside them, but I've been trying to learn up more on other structures since a lot of these ones here keep getting knocked down. For whatever reason. Like, really stupid reasons, I mean.

Never thought I'd say there was a body of water I'd want to avoid taking a dunk in more than the East River, but here we are.
