INTRO LOG: DECEMBER

INTRO LOG: DECEMBER
IF I HAD A HEART
characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, as well as the rest of town.
date/time: december 1-3.
content: beacon's newest batch of residents arrives on the ferry. robin posts a bulletin.
warnings: n/a.
welcome to beacon.
It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.
You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern glowing with a healthy flame.
You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.
Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.
In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.•••
The ferry has barely docked when everyone's tablets will ping: A new weekly bulletin has been posted!
...Aaaaaanyway, luckily for all the newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.
ooc.
Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! You've happened to come at a chaotic time, as we've just wrapped up a rather large event. Half the town was stuck in a dreamland version of past Beacon, where they explored for clues about the town's history. The other half stayed awake and defended the town from a brutal onslaught of green-eyed, hallucination-inducing forest spirits. The town's pretty haggard after all that, so hey, there's a conversation starter! It'll be good to have some fresh faces around to help with the recovery process.
You can check out the various Enter Mr. Sandman event posts in the OOC and log comms if you're curious, and plenty of the details will likely come up ICly, as well! The aftermath is just beginning, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride. :)

DELIVERIES
The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
- The monthly store restock
- For Eliot: A carton of cigarettes
- For Prompto: 17 pairs of reading glasses
- For Eleven: A pair of walkie-talkies, and enough batteries to last for 3 months of casual use
- For Aziraphale: 12 drums, 11 lead pipes, 10 pairs of shoes, 9 wilting corsages, 8 bottles of milk, 7 taxidermy swans, 6 goose eggs, 5 stale onion rings, 4 bins full of duck armies, 3 dead chickens, 2 turtles, and a whole tree, though it's long dead... and strung with lights and garlands and holiday ornaments!
- For Kol: A book
- For Crowley: Peppermint extract, cream of tartar, a candy thermometer, a tin of cocoa, graham crackers, a generic bottle of red wine, a t-shirt with a crown logo on it, a book of love poems, and the goods
- For Eleven: An assortment of wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons, bows, and gift bags.
- A lot of medical supplies. The supplies are plentiful enough that everyone may handwave finding common first aid supplies that will help to triage injuries sustained during the Enter Mr. Sandman event. The supplies won't immediately cure wounds, but they will help to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. There's even an assortment of painkillers, ranging from over the counter pills to IV morphine (though, hm, it seems each character will only be able to find one dose of the hospital-grade stuff, no matter how hard they search)
If you submitted an item request last month and we've missed it here, let us know!

bonfire.
the armory.
@ Crow
I'm Goro Akechi, by the way.
no subject
It's a pleasure to meet you, Goro, despite the circumstances. I hope you're holding up alright, all things considered.
no subject
Well the long and short of it is... The spirits threw a feast and if you at the food, you fell asleep in a food coma. If you didn't, you had to defend the people sleeping from hostile spirits from what I've gathered.
[He was one of the dreamers, so he still doesn't have all of the information from those who had to fight just yet. All he has is what Akira's told him about.]
I'm... alright. My casualties could have been worse compared to the others.
[Realizing that your ankle tendons aren't actually sliced is a little hard to adjust to right away.]
no subject
A casualty is still a casualty, but I'm glad you're doing alright.
[ what a horrible afterlife. pyrrha shouldn't be surprised that she'd have to continue to defend the innocent even in death -- but perhaps that's just a part of her destiny. in life and death, she's a warrior. ]
Is there anything I can do to help?

bonfire
He'd learned his lesson about going anywhere without it now.
Jason stopped walking, taking the new girl in for a moment as his brain caught up from the hours of sleep he'd just gotten.]
Yes, this does seem to be some version of an afterlife. As far as I know it's not the kind anyone was expecting. [He closed his eyes, shaking his head so as to try and wake up more. Instead the motion made him dizzy and he swayed on his feet. He tried to play it off as a purposeful movement though and dropped down onto a nearby bench around the bonfire.] It's usually not quite this bad. The past two weeks were a bit of a unique situation...I hope.
[He set his lantern at his feet, ran a hand over his face and looked up at her.]
Sorry. I'm a little out of it. I'm Jason Grace. You just got here on the ferry, right?
no subject
So I've heard.
[ instinctively, she wants to put a hand on his shoulder to see if he's alright -- but that seems like a bad idea right now. he's got to be in a lot of pain. she doesn't sit on the bench next to him, but hovers around near it as her eyes meet his. ]
I did. It's nice to meet you, Jason. [ her voice is tired, nearly void of any energy. ] I'm Pyrrha Nikos. ... Are you going to be alright?
no subject
Too wound up to sit? [He doesn't mind if she joins him, watching her is making him feel restless and he knows he should rest.] I felt like that when I arrived...like there was a quest I should be going on or at least something I should be doing.
[When she gives her name, Jason looks amused. Having been teased about his own name for most of his life, he almost doesn't say anything about hers, but he honestly can't help himself. Between her outfit and now her name, he wonders if she has some Greek origins, though she can't be from Camp Half-Blood. He'd have remembered someone like her.]
Pyrrha. That suits you. Don't worry about me, I've already died once and that was a lot more brutal that this was. I guess I just got a bit rusty while being here...won't happen again.
[Although, usually he would also have some ambrosia to help the healing process along. He wouldn't be having to wait for the bones to heal on their own and the pain wouldn't be nearly as bad. Still, he'd been trained in the Roman Legion and by a wolf goddess -- you walked it off or you dropped dead.]
no subject
[ it's the most honest admission she's made since arriving here. she wishes she could offer him a tired smile in return, but after everything she's been through...yeah. smiles are out of the question right now. she just looks at him tiredly and looks back towards the fire. ]
There was just...unfinished business I needed to attend to at the time of my passing.
[ it hurts to say that. it hurts to acknowledge she's dead. but when he mentions the meaning of her name, pyrrha can't help but look surprised. ]
You know what it means?
[ which is apparently more important than the information about him having died once? there's a good reason for it though: ]
Does that mean you're from Remnant, too?

the armory
Take it.
( It's not as if he is in need of any more weapons. True, he may have lost a few knives during his fight with the spirits — either because they broke, or because the creatures skittered off with them protruding from in their bodies — but there's enough to go around. Besides, that isn't why Javert is here. He's here to inspect the armory, and see what sort of damage it may have sustained from the attacks. Perhaps that is why he had not noticed her until now, absorbed as he is in his work. )
Lord knows you're going to need it.
no subject
I was told that what happened recently was a special case.
[ but given what that video on the weekly bulletin entailed, she's sure it won't be the last time. ]
Were things peaceful before then?
no subject
( An he suspects that it will be that way for a while. Two weeks of relentless attacks has crippled both the spirits and the residents, but that is just as well. It will give them more time to prepare, to work on a better strategy than frantically running about. )
It isn't the first time the spirits have attacked us. I would not allow yourself to get complacent. I take you are a fighter, then?
no subject
[ she's tall -- around 6'0" -- and has some muscle definition to her that matches her claims, at least. ]
Complacency is the last thing on my mind right now. I want to help.

Armory
I was only going to test the balance. If you prefer that knife, you can have it.
no subject
And I was only going to give it a look. Besides, I already have this.
[ a beat. ]
Go ahead and test it out. I can always look at some of the other ones in the meantime.
no subject
[There's almost a smile, there. It's visible around the eyes and in a kind of relaxing around the mouth, even if it doesn't quite turn up. The Soldier does pluck the knife up and flip it around their fingers, on the metal hand, before flipping the blade over and offering it to her hilt first.]
The balance is good. Better for slashing than throwing. Needs sharpening, though.

Short answer: a lot of things happened.
You're gonna have to get way more specific if you want the long answers.
no subject
I suppose that leads me to a more specific question: Who was she?
no subject
She hangs out in the lighthouse that we can't get to. Because reasons! I guess.
Keeps us updated when she's not stuck being spirit chow with the rest of us.
And pretty cute on top of it.

bonfire;
[ There's the truth. She knows she is--people have told her, and it all adds up, but Midge, well, she's always been a stubborn girl. She's got her arms crossed, dressed to the nines for someone from the 50s--a hat, a beautiful white wool coat, a skirt and some heels. Her hair and makeup's perfect, too, despite the fact that there's no need for it. Routine helps, she wants to tell the girl. She doesn't--at least not yet. ]
You okay, sweetie?
no subject
[ that's fair, but pyrrha is 100% convinced that she's dead and gone. how she died was brutal, painful. there's no mistaking the feelings and the sensations she felt when she was quite literally disintegrated into ashes.
the woman next to her is dressed in a way she's never seen anyone dress before. pyrrha's outfit is that of a warrior, though with significantly less armor than one would expect; the opposite of how this woman's dressed.
but when she asks the fated question, pyrrha looks towards the fire again and frowns. ]
I'm fine. [ obviously you're not, pyrrha. ] ... I'll be okay. It's just...quite an adjustment period.
no subject
My last adjustment period was moving in with my parents after my divorce. I never thought I'd say 'I want to go back!' but here I am.
[ She smiles at the other, keeping her voice soft despite it's wry tone, and sighs. ]
Just a heads up, the biggest thing that really puts the kibosh on everything is that there's no day. Bright side? No risk of tanning.

bonfire
[Akira answers that idle question with a thoughtful comment of his own. if she looks over at him, she'll notice that he has his own lantern affixed to a stick, which is resting against his shoulder. his other arm is bound in a splint and sling]
[he's staring into the bonfire flames, expression pensive]
It doesn't feel that different from being alive.
hello again!!!
[ she turns to face him and makes note of the lantern on a stick. a smart idea that seems to work better than just carrying it around in her hand all day. night. however time works around here. ]
I was hoping that the afterlife would be more peaceful. Somewhere where we could all be happy. I suppose that was just wishful thinking, in the end.
hello!!!
Do you really think this is all we have left? That coming here is the "end?"
[because that's something Akira himself has a difficult time accepting]
