EVENT LOG: ENTER MR SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same

in your closet, in your head.

It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.

Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.

Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?

Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

This thing on her is going to pull her down, whether or not Crowley wants to let her go or not. She wants what he wants, in the big scheme of things; she wants everyone to wake up, she wants everyone to be okay. One sacrifice for the greater good isn't a bad thing.

"It isn't stupid, it's the truth... Crowley, you have to! You're not going to make it, I will weigh you down. Let them come for me instead!" she's insistent; she doesn't want him to die here, and certainly not like this.

But he's just as stubborn as she is; the thing at her waist hisses and scrambles off at the flames, and she uses her free hand to stab upwards and over his head at something that comes at him from behind. It screams as it skewers itself onto the end of her Trident, and she casts it off to the side.

"Please! Let me go, save the others! Save yourself!"

She's so good. She's trying to protect him, even if it means sacrificing herself. How does he, a demon who can't even obey a simple traffic law, wind up surrounded by good people like this?

"Don't argue, just do it! We can do this together, we can get out of here together!"

She skewers something from behind, and he turns his head as something else rams him from the front, digging claws into his abdomen. He swats out with a hand to brush it away, but he feels blood from his corporation drop down his front. He has no idea how bad this injury is, but it feels bad.

Crowley is her friend, and the last thing she wants is for him to end up with a second death. Especially now that they are so much closer than when they started, one step closer to the goal at hand. Perhaps, one step closer to waking everyone up.

"Crowley..."

He's not listening to reason. He says he's a bad, evil person, and yet right now, he's trying to protect her. He won't listen to her, and she doesn't want him to be distracted, so she finally does what he asks; she pulls herself up, using her free arm to try and rip the spirit from his abdomen, and she pushes her hand against him, doing her best to send a wave of healing magic through him, to try and slow or stop the bleeding. These spirits are relentless, she can feel more grabbing at her legs, and a glance above them lets her know that they are surrounded and outnumbered.

They're not getting out of here in one piece, or at all, and her grip on Crowley's arm tightens. Not out of fear, not to hold on. It's a gesture meant to be comforting, because she knows that there's no way they're going to make it now.

Crowley wraps an arm around her as she climbs up him. He pants at the wound on his stomach, at every beat of his broken wing. He looks around them at the swirling, flying spirits.

"I feel like I should apologize for getting you into this."

Another spirit hits one of his wings and he falters, but stays up for another moment, holding onto Lunafreya.

"We got further than anyone else ever has," he estimates. "That's got to count for something."

Her gaze lingers upwards only for a few moments, before she looks back at Crowley and shakes her head, offering him a weary smile.

"You need not apologize for anything of the sort. I wanted to go with you, and I'm glad that I did."

No one should have to die alone, anyways. She kicks another spirit away, and she can hear the others starting to close in.

"We did, and that does count, yes. I suppose we will see what death is like after one is already dead," she states, shaking her head. "If death is anything like it is here... then I suppose you and I will meet again on the 'other side', as it were."

Death didn't scare her at home, she'd welcomed it with open arms. She feels the same way here. The only thing that bothers her is that Crowley is going to have to join her.

Crowley doesn't think so. After all, creatures here are resurrected in the church, and he's a demon. Churches are the opposite of what they need to survive.

"I suppose we'll---"

He feels another creature grab him, this time by the wings, pulling back until they both snap. He screams in pain, and another one claws at him. Despite all of his attempts otherwise, he lets go of Lunafreya, feeling himself start to fall.

She doesn't know a whole lot about this 'resurrection' thing, and she's not going to hold out hope that they're going to be fortunate enough to even get a second chance like that. She just hopes that whatever comes next is better than what's been thrown at them here.

His scream makes her eyes widen, she can hear his wings crunch, and can see blood flying from his back as they start to drop. He lets go of her, and she reaches up to take his hand again as they fall. He's not alone, they're together, and it's okay.

It's dark and cold, and the agony of slamming full force into water hits her like a freight train. She feels like every single bone in her body has just shattered, like her skin has been lit on fire, all at once. The sound was a loud crack; but the agony fades into nothingness, as does the noise of the churning waters and whatever may lurk in them.

Now, there's nothing.

Crowley falls. It's not like Falling, not anything so horrific, and it's not like dying the first time, nothing so simple. His body is broken, and he can feel his corporation slowing as he falls. Something else hits him, and he feels more bones break with the hit.

He looks over to the Lighthouse. They're nowhere near close enough to it.

He'll never know if he was right about the Keeper.

He'll never be able to save Aziraphale.

He's dead before his body hits the water below.
