EVENT LOG: ENTER MR SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same

in your closet, in your head.

It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.

Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.

Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?

Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

[ None taken. He says it quickly enough that Riku believes it earnest, not some attempt to seem brave. To Riku it means he's realistic - under such stressful circumstances, he wouldn't have found fault in him if he accused Riku of hoarding the armory and its contents for selfish reasons.

Technically, what he's doing is selfish. He's lost a staggering number of his friends, it's broken his heart in more places than one. Even now, it's effects can be felt. He can't even summon Braveheart anymore.

Riku has doubts that he even has what it takes to keep the friends he still has safe. That's a large part of why he brought some of them here, to a heavily camouflaged building that's easy to miss without knowing where it is and without torches to mark the way. He watches the other man finds himself a weapon, without hesitation, that speaks of confidence. His appearance here speaks of competence, too. ]

...Consider taking back some more. For the others at the Invincible. Every little bit helps.

[it doesn't take Akira long to pick out a moderately-sized combat dagger from the rack. something with a thin blade that balances easily against his fingers, like the one he had back home. once its chosen, the way he flips it in his hand also speaks of confidence, and it isn't long before he casually and easily slips the weapon into his belt. he already feels better knowing that it's at his side]

[he hadn't really thought about the others at the Invincible, but Riku brings up a good point? with a curious noise, Akira's eyes scan the rest of the weapons. the swords, spears, bow and arrows, axes. . . he has no idea what kind of weapons those back at the Invincible are used to fighting with, so he should probably grab a variety just in case. right?]

Got a point there. I can be like the Santa Claus of spiky and pointy things.

[. . . so Akira's totally going to reach for an axe. a very heavy axe that he has sssssome trouble lifting because he is a rogue not a warrior and pure strength isn't his forte]

Why'd you decide to come here instead of the tavern, anyway?

[ Riku knows the feeling.

In the wake of much of what's happened prior to this? Riku feels the absence of his own Keyblade keenly. His heart is still too raw, too broken, for Braveheart to answer its call. Considering what Kairi and Sora meant to him, how they formed the real core to his central goal, the driving force that kept him on the path to improving, ever stronger each day, it doesn't surprise him when his heart is broken enough that even his keyblade rejects him.

He needs to be stronger. To protect what's left. The way Akira is, gathering up what he can to take back. Perhaps... that's why he says anything at all. So Akira can do what he can't.

Save them. ]

You got it.

[ That question, though... ]

Too many points of entry. Too obvious. You noticed the camouflage practically makes the armory invisible, right?

[ Riku exhales after a time, after holding his breath, of thinking about their situation for a while. ]

I kept thinking about what might happen when it got attacked. I guess... I didn't want all our friends taken down at once.

I did.

[not a bad answer. maybe they should've brought the unconscious bodies here, instead of packing them all in the Invincible]

[there's a small pang of guilt when Riku admits to thinking about what might've happened if it were attacked, too. there's still the possibility that it could be, especially now that Akira's plan to use the Invincible as a stronghold has been compromised by his big mouth]

. . . it may already be far more dangerous there than here, anyway.

[a sharp exhale]

They know we're using it as a home base.

[ Riku doesn't blame people for using the Invincible. It's close, familiar, it has pretty much everything they need, and not everyone has experiences that would help them identify defensible structures or risks.

Fortunately, the spirits aren't really going for the dreamers, as Riku will learn later. It's just them, the ones who didn't eat. ]

Yeah, they do.

They've been watching us for a while, I think. Maybe from the start. The spirits even have started getting closer to the armory. Not sure how safe it'll be for long.

[ He offers after a moment: ]

You could stay here. It doesn't help the others... but...

[Riku's offer is appreciated, but Akira greets it with a wry, crooked smile of his own]

Thanks. But I think I owe it to the people at the Invincible to protect them as best as I can.

[if the building is assaulted by spirits because of his message, then he needs to take responsibility and fight to keep the building safe. it's as simple as that]

I understand.

[ Even if he wouldn't have blamed Akira for looking out for number one, when just saving one's own skin might make the difference between total loss and staggering loss, he finds he respects him more for his answer.

It comes down to that sense of personal duty and... the word protect. ]

You can rest here until you're ready to return. If you need something, I'm not gonna be far.
