EVENT LOG:
ENTER MR. SANDMAN (DEFENDERS)

characters: those who signed up as defenders for the event
location: all around Beacon
date/time: november 16-29
content: the defenders attempt to drive off a spirit invasion
warnings: lots of horror! body horror, psychological horror, gore, violence, etc.. please cw all threads where appropriate! mods will do the same

in your closet, in your head.

It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.

Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.

Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?

Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

"Get something to pull after us," he says. "We've got tables, we can make wheels. Some of us pull them, some of us defend. Start moving them down, out of this place."

Crowley has other plans instead, of course. Not that Xayah or the human soldier person are behind him. But this person?

"Course. We could always go to the source of the problem and stop it. Wouldn't need to take everyone with us, then."

"And what do you suspect the source is?" he asks, choosing that one among the many, many questions he's tempted to ask, all still fairly incredulous. Yes, staying here comes with risks but he doesn't believe it to be the coffin that Crowley seems convinced it is.

If he had to take a guess, of course, he'd imagine that the implied source is the lighthouse. As much as Robin frustrates him, the idea that this particular occurrence is her fault, that going to her would stop this, seems utterly ridiculous. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, however. Might learn something useful, should such a trip succeed despite the massive risk it carries.

"The only person who has any power over this place, and the same one who has been totally en communicato since the moment this all happened," Crowley says. To say that Crowley hates the Lighthouse Keeper is probably putting it mildly. He's completely aware that his feelings are probably unjustified, but he doesn't care. He needs someone to blame, and since he can't go around blaming the Almighty anymore, he might as well put it all on the Lighthouse Keeper's shoulders.

"Find out what's happening at the Lighthouse, we might be able to recall all these spirits."

He nods, as if agreeing, while he thinks it over. It's still ridiculous. But the spirits, who guard Robin so closely - would they put her to sleep? Why else hasn't she said anything?

"How fast can you fly?" he asks after a moment. Even if Crowley doesn't succeed in understanding what's happening, they could organize a distraction. Pull some of the spirits away from the town to chase him, then those in town can try to clean up the ones who stay.

"Fast enough," he replies. "Used to be a very good flier. Tough to keep up when I can't see, though. Been staying down where the light is, here."

He hadn't flown much back on Earth. Never needed to, of course. He had the Bentley, he had planes. Flying would've just attracted attention. But since coming here, he's stretched his wings out more times than he had in centuries. He's still got it, at least.

"Right," he says, for that makes sense. Jason had indicated a similar problem - and the weather these days, with all its fog, has only made things worse. It's a shame, but unsurprising, to know that the thick darkness isn't just a problem within the forest but above it as well.

"But the lighthouse should be visible at any distance, since we can see it from town. So you could probably get there, and might even get back if the bonfire is also visible. It would only be a matter of evading flying spirits in that darkness. They'll be able to come at you from any side without you knowing, until they're on top of you."

Flying spirits? That's news to Crowley. Changes how he would prepare an assault on the Lighthouse, but it definitely doesn't rule one out. He's handled flying demons before.

"What's the worst that could happen?" Besides dying, waking up in a church, and then dying all over again because he can't live in a holy place?

"To you? Death, I guess. Die enough times and you risk not coming back, though. Or you get changed, like Winters." Who Crowley might never have met, he recalls after a moment, so he frowns and adds, "I guess the creature who brings us back doesn't always get it right. But also, if you go, there could be repercussions for the rest of us. Every time one of us gets hurt and has to sit out for a while, that's one fewer person here to defend everyone."

And this is why even though he'd love to know what's going on in that lighthouse, he can't really get behind Crowley going right now. Especially given he's capable of healing, and getting the rest of them all back into the action. But Crowley isn't going to be motivated by the greater good, he's quickly learned that already. So when he says "everyone" and tips his head toward those asleep nearby, he's sure to direct the gesture in the general direction of Aziraphale. Put them all at risk and Crowley puts the angel at risk, doesn't he?
