in your closet, in your head.
It all happens in a matter of moments. Your friends, your companions, and even some people you aren't all that fond of; everyone who took so much as a bite of the spirits' feast suddenly collapses into a comatose heap. Which is bad enough already, but the worst, by far, is yet to come.
Before anyone can really figure out what's happened to the sleepers, the woods surrounding the town come alive with sound. Rustling, screeching, clicking, howling, and under it all, the characteristic hoots and whistles of the forest spirit tongue. But these aren't the friendly creatures that set up the banquet in the first place, and they aren't the familiar faces (or masks) from around Beacon. As they begin to emerge, bursting forth from the trees, these spirits reveal themselves as a horrifying army of terrors. And sprinkled among them, distinguishable by the emerald glint in their sockets, are the infamous "green eyes", the dangerous spirits that appeared once before.
Attempting to talk to these spirits is a moot point, made obvious by their immediate assault on anyone they get close to. They attack with claws and teeth, with limbs far stronger than they have any right to be, and the green eyes, as they are wont to do, will try to get into your head. Somehow, they seem to know what it is that scares you most, and they don't seem too hesitant to use it. It's not clear what they want— are they here to eradicate you? To frighten you? To send a message?
Whatever the case, one thing is very clear: you and everyone else, sleeping or waking, are in serious danger. Are you ready to defend Beacon?

And then they stand on the steps in front of the door, lantern on their shoulder half-unshuttered to shed light ahead but not behind, and... taps a message in Morse on their metal arm with the blade of the knife. If the spirit isn't attacking yet, they're going to try to communicate.]
What do you want?
no subject
The first one steps out fully when Bucky begins his message, stands perfectly still for a moment, and then reaches up to tap out a reply on the side of its mask with a finger.]
Want to show you. Come and see.
[This is, of course, followed by another chorus of laughter from all four of them.]
no subject
What do they want...?
[She inches slowly forward, but too fast or too close, afraid that they will jump at them and she won't be able to defend herself. Hand-on-hand combat is not her specialty.]
no subject
[The Soldier taps back another message to the spirits:]
Can you show us from here? The forest is not safe for us.
[Understatement of the day, right there. To Xayah, they add,]
They want to show us something.
no subject
Safe. Very safe. Come and see.
[It gestures with one arm, beckoning them to follow.]
no subject
[There's a lot of codes going between them- they want to show them something? The laughter is offputting and telling her to 'not do it' but also- she's done sitting around.
She gives Bucky a nod-]
Careful and don't trust them too much...
no subject
[None of them have green eyes. (Yet.) This is most likely a trap. But knowing it is is one step to springing it on their own terms. The Soldier looks back at Xayah briefly.]
One of us should stay to guard the door.
[That one, as far as they're concerned, should be Xayah... but Xayah is fiesty and might not agree.]
Can you cover me from here if I don't go into the trees more than two meters?
no subject
It's hard to see any eyes behind those creepy paper masks, but judging by the direction of their heads, they seem to be watching the interaction between Xayah and the Soldier quite carefully.]
no subject
The spirits look as if they are watching them intently, and she can feel a shiver run down her back. She speaks in a low voice.]
It's dark and trees are getting tighter knit. My aim will be off and they will have good cover...
no subject
[The itch to find out what they think of as "safe" is there, though. As well as the itch to kill more of them, if they're deceitful. The less dangerous spirits there are, the sooner this siege breaks. Plus, it feels good to take out legitimate targets. That might not be particularly healthy, but the Soldier is still a murder machine, no matter what progress they've made.
To the spirits, they tap out,]
Do you have allies in woods?
[They don't expect a truthful response, but are curious what the response would be.]
no subject
Woods. Wood. Tree. Woods are allies.
[And then, though its mannerisms do not suggest an emergency:]
Come now. Hurry. No time. Very safe.
no subject
If you sense anything suspicious, pull back...
[The spirit's demeanor... she can't read it. Usually, it's not a problem, but recently she's questioning everything about this place.]
Let's not follow too far.
no subject
Xayah. Stay back and cover me. I can fight them off if I need to, to get back to you. I can't do that if they have you, too.
[Tapping for the spirits, they add,]
Not safe. Can't see in the dark. Spirits have been hurting us.
no subject
[The spirit tilts its masked head.]
Let us help.
[And then, simultaneously, all of them spring into action. It's jarring, after how still and silent they've been (outside of the giggling), to see them all reach into their sacks or under their linen clothes, pulling out what look like some very sharp kitchen knives. Two of them, the one tapping out morse code included, go for the Soldier. The other two go for Xayah.
They continue to laugh in their childish voices.]
