EVENT LOG: GATHER UP

EVENT LOG:
GATHER UP
characters: everyone.
location: beacon at large.
date/time: september 16-25.
content: a town-wide selfie scavenger hunt!
warnings: unflattering camera angles.
🔎📸😘
It starts with a network post, and then a song begins to play in the Invincible, loud enough to be heard throughout Bonfire Square. Welcome to the scavenger hunt, everyone! You've been tasked with finding 25 "items" in and around Beacon, so hop to it!
Please remember to ICly report your findings on Robin's network post if you want them to count toward a prize! As a further reminder, you're free to interpret the list items however you/your character would like, and you're free to assume your character can find all of these things somewhere in town without running into trouble! Just don't stray too far from town to go gallivanting off into the wilderness, as that might be dangerous. This includes finding forest spirits! You're welcome to NPC your own forest spirit encounters, just like in our last event.
That said, if you would like to search a particular area for a fun surprise, let us know below!

Jason Grace | OTA
[While technology was not normally something demigods spent much time with, Jason understood the basic concepts and so when the scavenger hunt had gone out asking for a selfie he hadn't been confused -- except maybe by why they were doing this now.
Still, he could appreciate the desire to lighten things up around here. He had hoped the Capture the Flag game would help with that a bit, but even the reason behind that had been semi-serious. Jason started his day out by the Bonfire, working on a list of what he would need to do to get some of these items marked off. He had to admit, it was definitely busier around here lately.
It's as he's sitting at the bonfire that he realizes he can easily cross something off his list: his favorite spot. He hadn't found a roof he liked yet, and the bonfire reminded him a lot of home. He pulled out his tablet, but stopped when he noticed someone had joined him at the bonfire.]
Hey--interested in being in my first shot?
II. Kindred Spirits
[Jason held up his hands, framing the dark water and distant light house between his fingers. He lowers his hand, stepping back.]
I guess this could work.
[It feels strange, standing here at the edge of the river when he'd just recently arrived here. A postcard is supposed to be something that is distinctive and makes you want to visit, right? The wind comes off the water, ruffling Jason's hair. Maybe he hears you or maybe he feels you behind him, either way he doesn't turn but does call out to you.]
What do you think of this view? I'm honestly not sure how to find a postcard view if everything looks so ominous...
III. Somewhere Only We Know
[Jason considered going somewhere in the forest, but he honestly hadn't visited much of the Village yet. It seemed fitting then that for this selfie he should take advantage of that and go check it out. Of course, the place that attracted him fairly quickly was the park area.
It's pretty easy to spot the young man standing in front of the Ice Cream Stand, a crabby spirit watching him curiously. He should get an ice cream right? If he was going to take a selfie? But what was with these flavors? He smiles weakly, not wanting to offend the spirit.]
Uh...do you have any recommendations?
IV. Take a Chance
[Have another prompt you want to fulfill with Jason? Hit me up or we can plot something on
fired up
So when he looks up abruptly from where he's settled down to enjoy the flames, it's with a total misinterpretation of the word "shot."]
I hope you don't mean target practice.
no subject
He winces slightly.]
No, nothing like that. It's a term people use when using a camera.
[Jason holds up the tablet.]
Robin asked us to capture pictures as part of a scavenger hunt. I wasn't sure if you'd mind...

no subject
[Which felt a little too close to some of the quests he'd been sent on growing up. Far too many were about retrieving various items and then along the way you happen to encounter far too many monsters or minor gods or other challenges that seek to kill you.
You'd think after all of that he'd be adverse to a scavenger hunt, but at least this one was just taking pictures. Harmless, right?]
I could show you how it works if you like. It's definitely a lot faster than drawing.

I guess do what everyone else does: post lost of pictures and send random messages at ungodly hours.
[Jason holds his own tablet out.]
I'll show you how to take a picture first...unless you wanted to know how to do something else first?
no subject
Maaaaybe. [He shrugs. You'll never know until it's too late.] And no, that one's a good start. Daylight showed me most of the other things when I arrived, so I haven't been completely inept.
no subject
[Jason seems relieved, cause while he wouldn't have minded showing Molly things like 'turning it off and turning it back on' it was nice to skip over that part. Jason gets his tablet to the 'home' screen and points to one of the little icons.]
This is what you'll need to tap if you want to take a picture. It opens a program and you'll be able to see through a lens. [He walks through those steps and adjusts the tablet so Molly can see that whatever is on the other side of the tablet also appears on the screen.] Once you have something in the frame, that's when you can push this button and take the picture.
[He points it towards the bonfire, hits the button, and then turns the screen to show Molly.]
no subject
[He breaks off into laughter and takes the tablet back, repeating the series of button mashes, but this time holding the camera up to a group of people chatting in a corner before he snaps a imperfect, but still functional photo.] No, but really. Thank you. That's brilliant. It's the fucking buttons that throw me off every bloody time.
no subject
He looks over at the newly snapped photo.]
Not bad. It's like anything else, I think it just takes some practice or repeated use and suddenly it becomes a lot easier.
no subject
Repeated use, you say?
no subject
Yeah, exactly.
[He figures it won't take long for Molly to figure out how to participate in the scavenger hunt as well. That'd probably be a good project for him.]
You'll need to make sure you have light nearby so the pictures will show up though.
no subject
[She probably does. She just doesn't care.]
( prompt iii. )
[ daylight had just been passing by, determined to find something related to a piece of art here in the village, but he had to make a pitstop here. just to say hi to the ice cream vendor and see how the little hats he made for them faring.
since he did help out with the very extensive and serious research of what the ice cream flavours were.
he crouches down so he can meet the new(?) guy in the eye and daylight tries his best to look friendly by flashing a smile. ]
Sooo- Before I give recommendations- Do you, like, have any preferred flavours? Do you like something sweet? Something dark? Something savoury?
[ excuse me- what was that last one-? something savoury? ]
no subject
Sweet is fine...I mean it's ice cream. [Wait...did he say savory?] I don't think we had flavors quite like that back home...
no subject
[ he turns to the ice cream vendor after he speaks, giving them a nod to show his respect to them and their diligent ice cream making way.
but- right! back to the question at hand: ]
I would suggest the Matcha and Flower, Seasame, Honey flavours! [ he gestures to the ice creams in question as he speaks, daylight's winglets wriggling up and down from genuine pleasure of chatting with someone new. ] They're the most conventional sweet ones Coraline and I tasted when we explored here for the first time.
no subject
[Jason considers the flavors mentioned.] I guess conventional would be safest...but did you have a flavor you preferred?
[It's a nicer question than asking something like 'Robots can taste ice cream?']
no subject
[ daylight points to one of the ice cream flavours that's proudly on display: it reads... it reads something along the lines of 'edible(!!!) dirt.' yes, really. there is an ice cream flavour that's labelled as edible dirt here in the village.
okay then.
well- at least daylight has enough self-awareness to realise how strange his answer might be to others, judging by the sheepish look he gives as he continues to speak, ] I know, I know- It's, like, weird. I swear it's really good! Earthy but smooth is the best way I would describe it. It kind of reminds me of a blend I used to have back with my friends.
no subject
I think I'll go with the Honey flavor. [An idea occurs to him and he turns back to the vendor. He knows something of what it's like to be apart from your friends.] Can I get a scoop of the Honey and a scoop of the...Edible Dirt for my new friend here?
[He notices the vendor bob its head back into the shadows of the stand and start to prepare the scoops, which is kind of impressive to see given the claws. In case Daylight plans to protest he looks up at him.]
Thanks for the insight, I hope you don't mind me getting you one too.
III. Comes in 50 years late with weird ice cream
Oh uh… I like Just Vanilla a lot…
[ Hopefully he hasn’t read the actual flavor descriptions… >:3c ]
no subject
Vanilla? There's a lot of flavors here to choose from though.
no subject
I mean… like… gotta start with a classic though you feel?
[ She’s terrible at this wow. ]
no subject
[She has a point, but at the same time he's just never really been a fan of 'just vanilla.' You should at least have some kind of cookie in there or something. Still, this person DID seem rather insistent.]
What if I get a scoop of Just Vanilla and Mapled Nuts we can share.
no subject
Sounds good!
[ It’s not like she can taste a lot of things so… heh. ]
