What began as a conversation between Javert and Soldat, about what the latter man could do to make himself feel more useful, has now led to thrice a week training. The training itself begins as it often does, seven o'clock in the evening, right on the dot, because Javert does not tolerate tardiness. It ends just as punctually at nine, with a session of first aid training following thereafter.
The gymnasium itself is still in a state of disrepair, with creaky floors and a broken ceiling, but it's serviceable enough for their purpose. There are two torches lit on either side, illuminating the room, and exercise mats scattered across the floor. Against the wall, near the door, is a trunk full of swords of various quality, fencing equipment and training handbooks, several first aid kits, medical supplies, and cpr equipment.
Those who wish to learn how to fight are paired with someone willing to teach. Those who do not are encouraged to spar among themselves, to keep their skills sharp and work to better their technique. There will be a lesson in first aid afterward, should anyone require it. The lesson itself also serves as something of a makeshift clinic, allowing those who have been hurt during training, or those who are still recovering from old wounds, to be tended to and healed. It's a cooperative effort. Anyone who wishes to help out with combat training or first aid may do so.

Fjord gives her a soft, sympathetic smile as he walks over to her. "I think y'all might need t'start with something a bit simpler," he says, offering to take the staff from her. "Staffs can be a tricky thing - you're just about as likely to smack yourself in the face than hit your opponent."

She moved the stick behind her back and looked a little uncertain. "I was pretending that it was a Keyblade, trying to fight the way Sora does." She paused briefly. "He and Riku are the only two I've ever seen fighting."

...gods, is this how Jester and Nott felt about Kiri? So ready to try and teach their strangee adopted child how to protect herself?
"I can teach you how to use something a bit... shorter." He looks her up and down, taking in her petite physique, before he moves to the weapons on display and pulls out a few small ones: a pair of daggers, that he tucks into his own belt; a club, thin and solid-looking; a mace, similar but with a thick metal head on the end; and a sling, gathering a few pellets as well for ammo. "You're not gonna be able to do something like a sword or anythin' fancy if you can't use anything at all, but you ought to at least be able to smack something." He offers her the club first. "So we're gonna practice making sure you can do that."

"Really?" She looked over at them, feeling her initial embarrassment be replaced by curiosity. She'd never seen other types of fighting though she did remember that Fjord had a sword when she'd been rescued from the operation room. He probably knew what he was talking about.
"Thank you!" She smiled and took the club, looking a little too happy about it.

"So, first of all." He holds the mace in one hand, holding it stretched out (almost like a wand) and making a show of fixing his footing, so he's balanced with his left foot forward. "If you're gonna go hitting something, y'all need to make sure you've got proper footing, or you're just gonna fall over every time you take a swing."
no subject
"Okay." She paused briefly. "I have been falling a lot. I wasn't sure why." She moved her feet a little further apart and then mimicked Fjord's stance exactly. Naminé didn't know how to do many things but she knew how to copy another person and she did so perfectly. The only problem was that she wasn't very strong and after hold the position for a second her arms began to tremble with the effort.

"Now, watch close." He then demonstrates a simple attack: raising the mace, stepping forward with his right leg as he swings, and stopping it sharply at about head height.
