EVENT LOG: THE NIGHT WE MET

EVENT LOG:
THE NIGHT WE MET

characters: everyone.
location: the path from downtown beacon to the harbor; all over town.
date/time: february 16-21.
content: the forest spirits send off their friends to join the aurora. memory opals drop from the eerie green lights above.
warnings: n/a.

i had all and then most of you, some and now none of you.

For most of the day on February 16, all of the town's forest spirits can be found along the stretch of road between downtown and the harbor, clearly setting up for, uh, something. They're piling snow onto the pathway, creating a miles long sled trail that starts outside the Landmark Inn and ends at the very end of the harbor's dock. Not only that, but the forest spirits are also not super willing to explain what they're up to! They're busy, you lantern-havers.

By the time evening rolls around, the spirits have set up wooden railings alongside the snowy path, as well as a warming tent, hot chocolate booth, and announcer stand outside of the Landmark. Oh, and a starting banner for the race! It's dogsled time!

Throughout the event, Beacon's downtown and harbor areas will be completely overrun with forest spirits, all there to bear witness to this holiday celebration—this holiday is for them, though, not you weirdos with your naked faces. Point is, none of the spirits will be hostile at this time! They're more interested in interacting with each other than with Beacon's residents, though if pressed, a kind spirit might be willing to explain what's going on:

The aurora arrives in Beacon for about a week each year, and the forest spirits believe it to be "friends in the sky". The lights are old friends of theirs, it seems! And each night while the aurora shines above the town, the forest spirits send off a handful of friends to join the aurora! The spirits ready to join the aurora build sleds of their own and assemble mighty sled teams, sometimes comprised of dog spirits and sometimes... other stuff. Then, when the aurora is at its peak in the wee hours of the night, the sled teams will ride off one by one, racing down the snow-covered path all the way down to the harbor, where they'll finally rocket off the dock and out over the lake, picking up more and more speed as each team gallops wildly over the water before arcing up into the sky. Once the spirits are barely a speck, they'll hit the aurora and burst into a shower of light. Beautiful stuff!

See, since the aurora is made of light, forest spirits launched into it are killed on impact! Isn't that wonderful! The forest spirits seem to think so! What is death to a dead thing!

All of this information can be learned through handwaved/played-led interactions with the forest spirits during the event. They'll all be focused on saying goodbye to their friends and cheering them on as they stream through the sky, but they're happy to welcome lantern-havers to join in the celebrations. The hot chocolate is free and only tastes a little bit like mud, so. Enjoy!

•••

For the entire duration of the event, the aurora will dance in beautiful silence overhead, lighting up the whole town with its eerie green glow. Every so often, handfuls of opals will rain down like meteorites from the lights above, and these opals each contain the memory of someone currently in Beacon! They can be found all over town, landing on paths and atop buildings and maybe even rocketing straight through your ceiling to crash into your living room. Perhaps a forest spirit decided to hide some shiny rocks in your cereal box or under your pillow... Better hope the Postmaster General doesn't find your opals before you do, though. That spirits sure does love their rocks. Point is, who knows where the opals might turn up?

On that note, if you signed up for a random event, we'll be RNGing characters to receive these random events throughout the event! The event may happen in response to a toplevel on this event log, or we might turn up in your IC inbox... 👀 These events will be entirely random, meaning we could dole out any number of them at any time, so it'll be a fun surprise for all of us.

If you missed signups and would still like to toss your name in the ring, go right ahead! Signups will remain open throughout the event, though we can't promise everyone who signs up will get something.

And finally... Each day, we'll post a list of the forest spirits joining the aurora! What, did you want to know in advance? The forest spirits have never been a particularly organized bunch, so they're winging this—which means more surprises for you. :)

Enjoy the races and the lights and the opals, residents of Beacon, and remember: WHAT IS DEATH TO A DEAD THING!

"Lord Cao Pi, my apologies." Then he was simple a noble, not a soldier. This was a man more accustomed to peace than to war. "Are you aware what these opals are?"

He holds out the small stone - smaller in his hand - and sets it just below Zihuan's eye level.

"These appears to hold memories. At the very least, I believe that to the the case as I felt I was experiencing a conversation with you and another officer." What relationship they had was unclear. They were both leaders with military backgrounds, and thankfully it was nothing private.

"I have heard, yes..."

It's not entirely the truth, but right now he's struggling to maintain any sense of guard or defense against everything that keeps being thrust upon him, the shock of others' memories and the reeling emotions of reliving his own so viscerally. Minimus' explanation helps, though, he doesn't have to brace himself for anything terrible or too sweet this time.

"Oh? One of my retainers?" That's curious. Might as well have a look. It flashes to his mind and leaves him smirking to himself. "...ah. I see."

The smirk, if anything else, just complicates the matter. What about that memory has him so amused?
legalcy: (🎵 I'm going out for a moment)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-19 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Smirks are not a sign to good things to some. It's the expression that says "Aha, I've found the upper hand." Used properly, you could doubt yourself even if the other party was losing the fight due to their acting skill. Some Decepticons were in the entertainment industry before the war. Some were naturally charismatic. Either way, smirks were not to be used lightly.

"What do you find so amusing?"
pure_havoc: (cool smile)

Cao Pi skillfully pockets the stone - like hell if he's giving it back, anyway, but the way he ferrets it away is a little more sneaky than it should be, like he's embarrassed to be caught with it. "I had almost forgotten that conversation. Master Ishida nearly got the better of me that time, had I not come up with a proper comeback at the end."

He raises an eyebrow, privately wondering how much this metal fellow with his glorious mustache has in common with friendly Daylight. "What, do you not enjoy a good spar with words? Particularly with a skilled opponent."
legalcy: (🎵 what the heck)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"While I was well-versed in the law, my duty in the courtroom was usually to list out the arrestee's crimes for which he was tried. The only sparring in which I participated was in training."

This certainly sounds like a man with few friends.
pure_havoc: (unimpressed)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-20 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah...a court official." That does explain a few things, but not many. "A shame. There are few here who can hold their own with me over wordplay. It seems my search continues. Still...

"Thank you," he adds suavely, "for returning that to me. Not the face I was expecting to see, I will admit."
legalcy: (🎵 gendo pose)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-21 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Court official. That makes hims sound like a noble of the old Cybertron, spending his days with the Senate and discussing politics and etiquette.

"Primarily, I was a soldier. I held a position in which I hunted down violators of military law, but I also lead missions from time to time."
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-21 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
"...ah." Interesting, to say the least, and some sense of familiarity lightens his icy eyes. "Then, you are closer in profession to what I know than most others here. A general?"
legalcy: (🎵 crimmas)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-21 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"A general implies one who controls an army. I typically worked alone." He had to, to maintain the illusion Tyrest desired. Someone dedicated to the law and willing to cut off all nonprofessional contact with Cybertron was the ideal candidate to the position. "Then again, my kind has a large number of those of who you may think as generals considering our long civil war."

It wasn't normal, apparently, to have fought for most of your life.

"Four millions years of fighting among ourselves."
pure_havoc: (suspicious)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-23 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps, but...semantics."

The number doesn't really register with him at first, he hears civil war and fighting and nods like he understands. "Then, if you are at least familiar with hierarchies and wars, do you not have comrades with which you might, at times, trade jibes with when things are quieter?"

He's just trying to figure out this strange metal warrior and his reaction to Ishida. Then again, Ishida does take some getting used to if one isn't versed in sarcasm.
legalcy: (🎵 sigh)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-23 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cao Pi is asking if Minimus has friends. As if Minimus were a likeable Cybertronian who understood how to socialize in a casual setting and who was willing to discuss personal topics. He assumes that he didn't spend a major portion of his life isolated from others, hiding who he really was for the sake of his job and to be someone respected.

The length of Minimus' silent response to Cao Pi's question is telling.

"I...am a private individual."
pure_havoc: (sultry smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-24 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"So that's a no."

Explains a bit. Cao Pi shrugs it off and puts on his regal mask, rather easily. "I had not expected that these falling stones would feature people other than relatives. I wonder what all of this means."
legalcy: (🎵 gendo pose)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-24 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"These stones may not discriminate between relatives and acquaintances. They would have to define what a relative is for species like mine, and I am a rarity among Cybertronians to have a brother." Considering that he found a memory featuring his (ex) brother-in-law, this would involved analysis of relatives by law rather than by creation, and nature was not necessarily one to analyze legal documents.

"It may search for people with whom we shared a lasting relationship regardless of connection."
pure_havoc: (unimpressed)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Lasting relationship? Well, he can hardly deny it, but framing Ishida Mitsunari with those terms brings the very slightest look of shyness to Zihuan's face. If it wasn't so green under these aurorae, he might even reveal a blush. "...you make a valid point. I had not considered that others would not have family to remember, though I admit that I usually have too much family..."

That gives him a chance to ask, though. "Tell me, are you related in any sense to the one called Daylight? You share some rather obvious physical characteristics."
legalcy: (🎵 crimmas)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, he had expected this question. “We are not of the same species. I am unfamiliar with his build, but he is certainly not Cybertronian as I see no hint of an alt mode.” Daylight was too sleek, his metal components too rigid for transformation.

“...I should have mentioned that my kind have another form that we can take.”
pure_havoc: (suspicious)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-25 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"...a transformation?" He can't help but sound a little fascinated. After all, when did his life ever prepare him for meeting even one metal being, let alone two different types? Cao Pi looks vaguely impressed, nodding. "I'm sorry, I did not catch your name, or title."
legalcy: (🎵 making my way downtown)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-25 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Minimus Ambus. Cybertronian." The sudden awareness of his posture took hold, and he readjusted his back, just to be sure he was standing straight. The side of him used to being Ultra Magnus told hims to hold his fists to his side. A holdover from his era of confidence.

"Duly appointed enforcer of the Tyrest Accord. Solider of the Autobot army. Current, or former, depending on how you few our position in Beacon, captain of the Lost Light."
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-26 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
An eyebrow arches elegantly. "What a litany of titles," he says, and it's only mildly sarcastic given that he himself has held at least as many. More like, that's pretty normal and finally, somebody who can understand titles. "Which do you prefer - enforcer, captain, general...?"
legalcy: (🎵 ultra sadness)

[personal profile] legalcy 2020-02-26 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Enforcer." The answer would have been immediate, but he typically answers to his name. A name that he borrowed.

Come to think of it, there may be memories where he appears to be a different mech. He may as well admit the truth.

"However, I was typically called Ultra Magnus, with the respect implied in that name. You may find more opals in where others referred to me by that name."
pure_havoc: (head down)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-02-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Enforcer Minimus, then." Though he doesn't know what sort of respect goes with an Ultra Magnus, he'll keep that in his back pocket for a future time. "A pleasure, even if the meeting comes under such strange circumstances. Then again, strange circumstances seems to be rather normal in this world, might as well stop considering it strange."

Cao Pi lowers his head slightly but neither bows nor kowtows. Deeper relationships get deeper bows.
