SPIRIT VALENTINE'S DAY! (PLAYER PLOT MINI-EVENT!)
♡ SPIRIT VALENTINE'S DAY! ♡
When one wakes up on the 14th of February, it doesn't take too long to notice that something is going on outside. The biggest giveaway is the music that fills the air of Beacon's usually quite days. Acoustic music of the spirits singing. Lovey-dovey pop songs being played by someone's tablet. Excited chittering and cooing from frisky spirits courting one another.
Taking a peek outside reveals that, yep, something is happening: Beacon looks like it's been hit with a bomb of a fightingly and saccharinely sweet degree. Hearts are haphazardly glued to walls. Pink and red streamers hang from roofs and trees and the occasional tall spirit. Glitter - so much glitter! - has been thrown around and is still being thrown around by giggly, happy spirits who have hearts and more doodled on their masks.
It's Valentine's Day and it seems the spirits are going to celebrate it in style.
NOTES - This is the player-run mini event: Spirit Valentine's Day! Prompts can be found for the event if and a top-level for those who have secret admirer spirits can be found in the post! Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!
The first obstacle you'll face is the fact the spirits are feeling a little too sweet thanks to the generous mood in the air.
Approached by a spirit, you'll find yourself being offered a tray of suspiciously pretty confectionaries to passerby. Too pretty, you think, and further inspection will reveal why you should be right to wary of the cookies and cupcakes: Some of these sweets are actually made from painted cardboard, glue, paint, and glitter. No matter where you're from or who you are, eating this will not be good for your health.
If only the spirits understood that - They're aggressively generous, practically waving the 'sweets' under your nose and will clearly not stop until they see someone eat the offered sweets.
PROMPT 002 ♡ UNCHAINED MELODY.
Music seems to be playing a big part of the holidays, between Day blasting sappy dance pop songs from his tablet from where he'll usually be stationed out - that goofy grin of his showing he knows exactly what he's doing right now - and spirits dancing and singing along. It's almost charming.
What's not charming, arguably, are the groups of spirits scurrying around Beacon, cornering unfortunate individuals to be an audience to their singing of love songs. Well... It's less of them singing out love songs and more of them screaming out love songs. Screaming out love songs in their almost incomprehensible language, fuelled by the fact they're weirdly out of synch with one another because the fates seem to have it out for you today.
You'll need help getting out of this one, or quick thinking. The spirits will not allow you to leave anytime soon. They are relentless. They are aloud. They cannot be stopped until together you and they will break the chains of loooove.
PROMPT 003 ♡ IN YOUR EYES.
Due to their close relationship with Daylight, spirits know that his world's Valentine's is celebrated by its participants with one's face covered in symbols and marks in order to denote how one will be enjoying the holidays.
Wanting to make the holiday inclusive - and very excited to play with the face paint Day is happy to share with them, the fool - spirits have doodled marks and scribbles on their very own faces. Not only that but they are continuing their too-generous streak and can be found attempting to offer to paint others' faces - Whether they like it or not. It'll be a common sight to see some spirits running about, waving paint brushes and rags dipped in glittery face paint or, trying to spread the cheers by any means possible.
Paint WILL be lobbed at the faces of those who are attempting to escape the holiday mood!! Come back here!!
PROMPT 004 ♡ AT LAST.
When all is said and done, most of the spirits will dart back into the forests, clearly in high, ah, spirits after a successful day of what they thought was wholesome holiday celebrating!
But some spirits, who were raised with manners and still have them, end of the world or not, are lingering behind to help in the cleanup of the holiday's aftermath. Glitter is swept from the ground. Streamers are tugged down. Wrappers and ribbons are picked up and placed in sacks that the spirts have brought along.
The spirits are making good progress in tidying up but a little help could go a long way. Especially for the poor, smaller spirits who are struggling to tug around the sacks of designated wrapper trash.

Besides, they at least respect his wishes when he closes the door to his and Ambroses's room. Though it was a little weird sometimes to open the door and find them running the halls only to immediately crash into each other and turn to greet Jason.
And apparently it was only going to get weirder...Jason didn't find the spirits out in the hall that particular morning, but sometimes they did wait to accost him on his first patrol of the "morning."]
birds coming right up!! 🐦🐦🐦!!!
it's pink-and-coral coloured daylight, who looks very, very tired as he tries to separate three familiar spirits from each other. it seems like the trio are in a fight again and he can't break it up this time around. the spirits are loudly tweeting and peeping at one another, accusingly pecking the ground now and then for the emphasis before returning to their loud debate.
day looks up and, thus, is the first to see jason approaching. his baffled overwhelmedness morphing into something close to panic. ]
Jason! Hey! Um- How about you stay over there for a-
[ day only realises his mistake when all the spirits swivel their heads towards jason.
all of them let out excited cries, happy to see him, and they're quick to grab their presents and scurry over. all the while trying to trip the others so they could be the first to give jason his gift. it results in a slowly moving ball of spirits and gifts, with a fretting day following from behind to make sure no one gets hurt. ]

Are you sure? Cause you look like...
[But Jason doesn't get to finish. He spots the trio of birds. Oh gods. There is never a dull moment with those three and Jason is beginning to miss dull moments around here. They all seem to be carrying something and, based on their squawks, Jason is pretty sure it's for him.]
Ah...hey guys. You've been busy? [He looks back up at Daylight, a silent question of 'Dude. Do you need help?'.]

the spirits finally manage to untussle themselves from one another and hurry to circle jason. they're
trapping him so he can't escapeexcitedly showing off what they had in their grasps: they're all carrying boxes that have been messily wrapped with coloured newspaper, the sizes varying from suspiciously tiny to worryingly large.daylight finally catches up to him and manages to crack a grin, admittedly amused by how excited the spirits are to show off what they've been planning ever since day explained his plans to them. ]
Happy Valentine's Day, Jason! [ oh. right. it's valentine's day on this world. maybe that's why daylight has changed colours? ] Your friends here have been trying to get you the perfect gift though they couldn't agree on what that would be. [ he gestures to the spirits, who are still hooting and hopping, shaking their offered packages to jason. ] So you get three for the price of one.
[ it should be noted that daylight makes no attempt to suggest whose present will be picked first. he's not going to open that can of worms, no siree. (and, for funsies to note: up this close, jason can see their bird masks have been littered with doodled on hearts and... his name? hard to say with how messy the handwriting but it could be his name.) ]

Jason watches as his mini-tribe starts to dance and shake their packages in front of him. This is only going to end poorly, he can see it now. Still, they're clearly proud of their work, just like they were proud of their work on the bulletin board.]
Valentine's Day? [He smacks his forehead.] Oh jeeze I've forgotten another holiday. [He gives Daylight a look.] How are you keeping track of these holidays here?
[The spirits hoot loudly and Jason realizes they want his attention completely. He looks back down at them and then kneels down to their level.] Well that was nice of you guys. I feel like I still owe you one for your help with the boards.
[Three gifts, huh? Jason knows this could end poorly. He considers and then smiles as an idea occurs to him.]
Tell you what. I'll teach you three a game and the winner gets to give me their gift first, okay? Unless...do you guys already know how to play rock, paper, scissors?
[He mimes the hand movements for them.]

but— anyways— day helps jason out, letting out a series of notes and tunes to correspond with what jason is saying.)
the spirits let out happy chirrs and peeps in reply, seemingly up for the day. ] They’re open to it! Okay—
[ day gives a series of instructions, mostly telling the spirits to form a circle around each other and not, you know, poor jason. at the count of three, the spirits will reveal their chosen, er, weapon(?) and the winner gets to give their gift first.
for a second, day thinks this could work after all. but day has forgotten something very crucial: this is snap, crackle, and pop that they’re dealing with here. so when he begins his count down, snap already had something else in mind. ]
One… Two… Hey! Hey! Snap! Bad! Bad spirit!!
[ snap barrels past the two indignantly hooting spirits, quickly bounding over to jason and shoving their gift — the largest one, more rectangle than box — into his hands.
er… looks like the gift got chosen still? crackle and pop are annoyed, rightfully so, but they’re not attempting to claw the gift out and replace it with their own. that’s a good thing!
look, you got to count the little things at this point. ]

Jason is optimistic at first, with Day's help explaining the rules and instructions for the game should be a breeze. The spirits certainly seem into it at first. Jason's anxiously waiting to see who will play the best hand and is taken off guard by Snap's decision to bolt instead.
Jason accepts the gift] Thanks Snap...[He doesn't open it though. One thing Jason stands by is fairness. It could be him, but it could also be an aspect he inherited from his father -- ruler of the gods and thus in charge of things like justice. His tone is soft and even, but firm. In another life, Jason might have made a fine kindergarten teacher because he has the voice of one for sure.]...but that's not really fair to the other two. Come on, we had an agreement. If you're going to be like that then I'm opening yours last.

so after giving one more ruffle of their feathers in mild protest, snap shuffles back to where crackle and pop are. daylight crosses his arms, huffing in amusement and shooting jason a look of gratitude. it really does seem like jason is the only one who can control these three feathery menaces. ]
Okay. [ he claps his servos together, herding the three spirits into a semi-circle. ] At the count of three, throw down your... er... wingtips(?) and we'll see who gets to give their gift first, okay? Okay!
One more time. One... two... three!
[ and it's crackle who comes out as the winner, excitedly enough. it takes some squabbling (again) and daylight intervening with his understanding of the spirit language but- he's swayed by crackle's impressive argument that they threw down scissors and with pop and snap throwing down paper-
day gestures for crackle to go give their gift and they don't waste a second. with a happy whoop hoot, they skitter to jason's side and presents their gift: taller than snap's gift, which leans to much wider, and it also is weirdly very heavy. how on earth was the spirit able to carry this around without hurting themselves? ]
no subject
No sense waiting he supposes, he has two other eager spirits that want him to take their gifts as well and he knows if he dallies that it will only encourage them to start getting rowdy again.]
Thanks Crackle.
[He isn't quite sure how to start opening it, it's heavy and awkward to hold while standing, so he takes a seat on the ground and gets to it.]

it's soon revealed that crackle seems to have gotten jason an honest-to-goodness collection of cool-looking comic books! though yellowed and a little torn in some pages, they're perfectly legible. the series, from a quick review of the back, show it's about the adventures of sophia and soap, fallen london's best monster hunters! (oddly enough, the solicits for the page have been scribbled or doodled out. hm. the handiwork of crackle?) ]
Oh hey! Those look pretty neat. Surprised you managed to keep them in one piece, Crackle. [ the spirit in question lets out an offended-sounding noise, flapping their wings for emphasis at an embarrassed day. ] I meant that as a compliment, I swear! I swear!
Er- Okay-! Pop! Snap! Gotta get the next winner decided. [ with a bit of manoeuvring, day manages to get the spirits to focus on the next round of rocks-papers-scissors and decides to lay down some ground rules. something about using gestures to make it clear what they'll use and announcing their chosen weapon.
this time around, pop wins the round fair and square. with an excited hoot, they once again scuttle over to jason and present their parcel when he's ready to accept it; though pop's gift is not as heavy though there's no denying the heft to it. and should jason move it about, there's... something(?) moving? ]
no subject
Thanks Crackle. I haven't read a comic book since getting here. This will be fun.
[He is careful in handling them, holding them while the other two take their turns now. He's surprised they don't fight again, but apparently they'd learned their lesson from the first time. He nods when Daylight adds some new 'rules' to make it easier to judge. He's a little surprised at the box and looks a little nervous again.
There's...something moving. Well, he doesn't want to upset them. He'd seen what happens and surely whatever was inside couldn't be that bad right?]
Thanks Pop. [Time to open...]

and it seems to be a really fancy-looking art kit, too. dark wood that's expertly varnished and polished to a shiny look, it's clearly new outside of a few telltale pecks and scratches from the birbs' attempts to carry and wrap it. inspecting the contents reveal that it includes pencils, oil pastels, watercolours, markers and more. it comes even with a canvas panel!
day lets out an appreciate whistle, kneeling down to get a better look at it. ] Oh wow! That's a lot more extensive the kit that I have with me.
That's a really good find, buddy! Great job! [ cue him and pop sharing a high five, day beaming at the spirit for being so thoughtful. (earlier cheating aside.) then pop turns to jason, excitedly hopping up and down in place while letting out happy whoops. ] Pop is asking if you like it.
no subject
Wow is definitely the right reaction.]
This is great! Of course I like it. I kinda get why you wanted to go first, but thanks for playing the game the right way.
