EVENT LOG: TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

EVENT LOG:
TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

characters: everyone.
location: around town.
date/time: january 20-29.
content: the lanterns begin to malfunction.
warnings: body horror and psychological horror. please cw tags appropriately.

you'll become one

January 20th arrives the same as all the days before it. There's no great pulse of warning that throbs through the air, no ominous wind that causes the bonfire to shudder. The spirits are neither agitated nor do they hide. You could almost miss the change, if the lanterns weren't always by your side. There's no explanation that comes with the way that it's changed, but it's impossible not to worry when it's happened so suddenly.

Maybe it takes a few days, or maybe it only takes a few hours, but suddenly it isn't just the lanterns that have changed. You, yourself, have become somehow different. It's possible that you won't even have the right state of mind to wonder how long it will last. At the very least, it appears you aren't alone. All across Beacon, lanterns are changing, and changing the people with them.

Out in the distance, the lighthouse's beam has turned green.

Mewtwo looks down before it looks at the tablet. It does not blink. It does not emote. It just stares for a moment, unsure what to really think about this whole scene because it already expressed (1) emotion about it- faint amusement. That's a weird one, too.

"I am pleased to know that you exist at all. I have seen things since my lantern became dysfunctional that were not real."
callada: (smile like you actually mean it)

He crawls back upright and reaches for his tablet. Keeping his hands still enough to type is a challenge but at least the laughter he's experiencing is silenced. For some reason it makes him feel a little more sane, rather than less.

Green eyed spirits normally make hallucinations. This is something different. Never seen anything like it. Lanterns affected directly.

"Perhaps the spirits have damaged them."

It expresses the thought out loud, before it decides that can't be right. "No. I would have noticed them. And if not them, then who... And for what purpose?"

It's not exactly efficient. Perhaps the World Eaters are to blame? It knows so little about them at this point...

He's a little too far gone to speculate, and it's something he dislikes doing even when more mentally present and in control anyway. A shake of his head, a grin, is all he manages in response before he knocks his tablet completely off the table in an attempt to type a response.

"Don't know! Nobody knows! Maybe if we wait they'll turn even more colors!" he exclaims as if this is particularly delightful, despite the worried look buried somewhere in his expression. "Just have to wait and see!"
mewtiny: (♔ he pissed on my wife)

That edge of panic is disconcerting, but unfortunately Mewtwo has no solution either. It gives a contemplative Kubrick Stare at its lantern.

"If it is a person responsible, I would make them pay for this. I do not like my mind to be treated like a plaything."
callada: (still secretly six years old)

"The spirits! Ask the spirits, they know the funniest things. Maybe the librarian, if she doesn't eat you too," he says with a snort of laughter, waving vaguely in the direction of where he saw the creature last.

For of course, he knows about Coraline's dream, having heard from her and others. But all the spirits are the same sort of monster, right? The librarian might have consumed the previous human resident who lived here, but so did many of the other spirits when they took over from those who once lived in this town.

And if anyone has seen things like these lanterns changing color in all this time, it's a spirit who has been here since the beginning.
