EVENT LOG: TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

EVENT LOG:
TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

characters: everyone.
location: around town.
date/time: january 20-29.
content: the lanterns begin to malfunction.
warnings: body horror and psychological horror. please cw tags appropriately.

you'll become one

January 20th arrives the same as all the days before it. There's no great pulse of warning that throbs through the air, no ominous wind that causes the bonfire to shudder. The spirits are neither agitated nor do they hide. You could almost miss the change, if the lanterns weren't always by your side. There's no explanation that comes with the way that it's changed, but it's impossible not to worry when it's happened so suddenly.

Maybe it takes a few days, or maybe it only takes a few hours, but suddenly it isn't just the lanterns that have changed. You, yourself, have become somehow different. It's possible that you won't even have the right state of mind to wonder how long it will last. At the very least, it appears you aren't alone. All across Beacon, lanterns are changing, and changing the people with them.

Out in the distance, the lighthouse's beam has turned green.

When he gets back the kitchen (empty, no Mrs. Maisel - where is she?), Sora does catch that he hadn't even put down the food yet before Misty commented. Is she just being nice? There are definitely some weirdness vibes here that he is just going to push through because he is not all that bright, but he's honestly more worried than suspicious.

He puts her bowl down in front of her with a spoon, then sits down himself. "My pleasure. Didn't get too lonely without me, right?" It's kind of a joke, the type to put people at ease. It's not like he's planning on leaving again, anyway.

"A little!" Not so much a joke! Though it's easy to feel isolated, it's no poor reflection on his conduct. It's likely been too long since she last ate, so she takes her first bites with more in mind than a flimsy excuse to keep talking.

"Oh, it is good, look at that. Kudos to 'em, whoever made it."

"Yeah, Mrs. Maisel is really good at this." Sora will start eating a little himself - he does remember the last time he ate, but he's not going to turn down more food - but the way she's acting seems different in a way he can't put his finger on. The feeling is going to make him put his spoon down a little sooner than he would have liked.

"Hey, uh, is everything okay? Were you gonna meet someone else here?" Maybe that's why she seemed a little distracted? After all, getting put on hold by a friend he was supposed to meet would have gotten him a little worried, himself.

"Nope." So few people to meet, Beacon as a whole seems pretty sketch. Meal sharing is to be done in her home, Aziraphale's, or Matt's. The shake of her head is firm, speedy, and relentlessly chipper. "Just a weird week so far. Heard something's going on with lanterns?" She trusts Stone enough - it can't just be theirs.

"The lanterns?" Now that he thinks about it, during that weird moment with Rosinante, he'd noticed his lantern looking a little... fragile? The color didn't strike him as strange, since he'd only seen it once before, but considering that Rosinante had died once just by dropping it, it was just odd to see it damaged that badly.

(For that matter, why did his own lantern turn green? He remembers that well, but it only occurs to him now that that might have been odd. Why did it seem normal and off at the same time?)

He unhooks his own lantern from his belt and settles it on the table, frowning as he peers at it. Perfectly fine. The light glows with noontime brightness, the seashell panels smooth and undamaged. "Maybe? I've run into some people acting kind of bizarre. I was actually gonna check on Mrs. Maisel to see if she'd noticed anything, but I ran into you first." He looks at her. "That's all I know."
