EVENT LOG: FEAST OF LIGHTS

EVENT LOG:
FEAST OF LIGHTS

characters: everyone.
location: around town.
date/time: december 23 - 30
content: Holiday cheer is here!
warnings: n/a. please cw tags appropriately.

a show of lights

When characters wake on the "morning" of the 23rd, they'll find all of Beacon is lit up beautifully. Spirits have carefully placed candles all around the town, lighting up the familiar buildings and streets with a warm, comforting glow. If others wish to help, they're more than welcome, but it won't take too long: they've clearly spent all night getting things ready. If asked, Rastus will explain the spirits do this every few years, and yes, those candles are lit from the bonfire, but he'll get them back before the end of the event.

Once the spirits finish their task, it's time to hand out dreidels! While the four-sided toy has the usual Hebrew letters on it, characters will soon realize that they've little correlation to the typical rules. Instead: each side offers a certain kind of prize (listed below). Characters can play against the spirits or among themselves, but either way, they'll find a personal dreidel in their possession for the duration of the event.

secret santa

Of course, the spirits aren't the only ones in a holiday mood. Thanks to the tireless (and secretive) efforts of Eleven, quite a number of people wake up to find a present nearby. The wrappings vary from elegant to, well, an effort, and the gifts range form big to small, but there's no doubt each was given with at least a little thoughtfulness in mind.

"Oh."

Remi nearly drops the figurine, but catches himself and places it carefully on the table among the others. He reaches over to take Bruce's hand, shaking it in a manner he hopes isn't, er, too weak.

"Remi. Remington, but Remi's fine."

"Like the revolver."

Bruce has grown up in social circles both big and small- has been shaking hands with adults and introducing himself to socialites from childhood. Not because his parents wanted him to feel like he belonged, or to cultivate this desire to see himself as only the upper echelon- but because this would one day be his responsibility. The boy, Remi, fumbles his figure and Bruce doesn't stare, only overlooks it politely. Declines to draw attention.

Their hands shake, then part.

"I wouldn't feel right just taking them. What are you selling them for?"

He doesn't really know anything about guns, but admitting that, somehow, feels like the wrong thing to do. "Selling?"

Remi looks at the figures, a little confused, and then shakes his head.

"No, it's for the holidays, so I couldn't ask for anything. Besides, it's not like I'm doing anything with them, myself." And in general, asking for payment of any kind feels wrong, somehow. They're all stuck in this afterlife situation together, after all. There's bartering, but...he doesn't really want anything.

"But they aren't gifts for everyone." This isn't leveled like an accusation so much as part of the dialogue. Perhaps some of the mystery is built into his life experience. There was very little that the billionaire prince of Gotham couldn't have because there was very little that he couldn't buy. This isn't to say that he relies on the idea of money here, especially given its irrelevancy- so much as it underlines how insulated Bruce is from the idea of giving something for nothing. It's one thing if he does it. He doesn't know how to accept it from another.

"Isn't there anything you want to trade for?"
