When characters wake on the "morning" of the 23rd, they'll find all of Beacon is lit up beautifully. Spirits have carefully placed candles all around the town, lighting up the familiar buildings and streets with a warm, comforting glow. If others wish to help, they're more than welcome, but it won't take too long: they've clearly spent all night getting things ready. If asked, Rastus will explain the spirits do this every few years, and yes, those candles are lit from the bonfire, but he'll get them back before the end of the event.

Once the spirits finish their task, it's time to hand out dreidels! While the four-sided toy has the usual Hebrew letters on it, characters will soon realize that they've little correlation to the typical rules. Instead: each side offers a certain kind of prize (listed below). Characters can play against the spirits or among themselves, but either way, they'll find a personal dreidel in their possession for the duration of the event.

Of course, the spirits aren't the only ones in a holiday mood. Thanks to the tireless (and secretive) efforts of Eleven, quite a number of people wake up to find a present nearby. The wrappings vary from elegant to, well, an effort, and the gifts range form big to small, but there's no doubt each was given with at least a little thoughtfulness in mind.

As long as there's no poison in them and I am not going to just keel over and croak if I take a bite, I'm all over them.

While I will fully admit I could eat all of these myself...yes I am offering to share.

[It probably wasn't wise to stuff his face full of a whole tray of brownies when he'd been going so long without eating a lot of food anyway. The feasts had kind of multiplied his skepticism of food around here. But the longer he stayed, the more he was making concessions for things prepared by people, not spirits...even if the ingredients still had ties to this underworld.

Jason fully unwraps the brownie container and pulls out a big slab for himself and then holds it out to Ambrose]

You going to wait for me to have the first bite as the guinea pig, or do you want your share now? I'm fairly certain they're safe...they're from that Secret Santa exchange.

If anyone poisons someone in the name of Santa, they'll get what's coming to them.

( so, he holds out a hand. )

I couldn't agree more...

[Jason breaks off a portion of the brownies to pass over to Ambrose. They are not the best looking nor the best tasting brownies ever, but they aren't bad either. If nothing else it's a nice change of pace from perhaps the usual food around here and Jason certainly isn't passing up on one of his favorite foods, especially as it was a gift.]

Someone named Rhys? I'm not sure I've met them in person if I'm being honest, but based on the information Eleven gave me I think I did all right with their present.

[He'd have to find them later and maybe find out.]

I missed the Secret Santa sign ups, unfortunately, so thank you for sharing. I must have been distracted.

[Jason smirks, dropping onto the floor with his back to his bed, taking another piece of brownie for himself.]

What? Like you were busy recovering from the most terrifying two weeks of fighting for your life? Dealing with a roommate who keeps coming back covered in blood or waking up popping sparks? That's hardly distracting.

[His tone of voice indicates he's clearly joking.]

Wait...did you mean who made the brownies? Because that was who I had to get a gift for.

[He peers back at the plate and then locates a slip of paper.]

Guess these were made by Quentin.

Wait, Quentin's a cook?

( and he'd never shared that tidbit with ambrose? )

I'm gonna have to get on him about that. He never told me.

[Jason holds up the torn paper that reads "To: Jason Grace From: Quentin Coldwater"]

[Because based on these brownies, it likely wasn't a skill Quentin bragged about. Jason did not say this, however, since it WAS a gift and that would be rude. Plus, they weren't BAD...just not something someone would probably lead with in their list of skills.]

We always seem to run into each other during stressful situations or something. So, baking never comes up.

It does seem like things were more intense than usual the past few months.

[At least from Jason's perspective, a lot happened.]

That's what makes this whole Secret Santa thing nice...a chance to find out more about each other outside of what comes out during the stressful times.

It's so weird that Secret Santa is still happening even in a town where we're all supposed to be dead and gone.

Funny how things like that are sticking around.

We may be dead...but I don't think you can describe us as gone. That's probably WHY we're doing stuff like Secret Santa. It's gloomy enough around here as it is, might as well have something nice.

Yeah. Yeah, you're probably right. It's just strange to think that I'm dead but still celebrating the holidays.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm not.

No, I get what you're saying. It's weird...but it's hard to see this as the afterlife sometimes. It's not what I imagined for myself and I get the feeling it's not what anyone else was expecting either.

[Jason hadn't thought he'd still be having to fight. Maybe some celebration though, most heroes got at least that much of a reward.]

I'll take the little bit of nice we get.
