EVENT LOG: GRAVES

EVENT LOG:
GRAVES
characters: everyone.
location: Bonfire Square.
date/time: July 12-19.
content: mysterious shrines appear and bring visions of death.
warnings: likely violence and potentially gore.
time to pay your respects.
It happens when no one is looking, when most of the town is asleep and the rest are inside. A makeshift cemetery has come to Beacon, taking up residence in the middle of Bonfire Square. Each monument, shrine, and altar is dedicated to someone who now resides here, a memorial of their previous life.
Some may be drawn by curiosity, others by fear, and some may simply have to pass through this strange graveyard to get to the Bonfire itself. Whenever a person gets near, the altars beckon with a mysterious urge— an urge to approach, and an urge to leave something behind. They will feel compelled to make offerings at the various shrines, but doing so has a curious effect; it causes one to experience the death of the person whose grave they've honored.
Whether you resist the compulsion or give in willingly (or something in between), you'll also have to wrestle with the fact that a grave exists for you. Will you let your death be known, or try your best to keep it secret? Destroying it sure won't work, as it will return— with a duplicate somewhere else in town.
However you choose to deal with this, one thing is hard to ignore— this a tangible reminder of your death, and the fact that it's probably permanent.

I've dealt with exhaustion before, it's not to be ignored. [Her lantern is dim, after all.]
You can still die all over again in this place too. [Just a subtle reminder about that bulletin board announcement.]

⟪ Usually, her body is far more durable than two weeks of intermitted failure to take care of the need for food, drink, and sleep. She takes a sip of the tea, hands still shaking. ⟫
Normally the visions I receive are... less clear.

He holds his hand on her upper arm, just in case she drops the mug- he can see her shaking hands. He doesn't want her to drop the mug and burn herself.]
I don't think this was a vision. More like- a memory.

⟪ Sitting like this, her breathing evens out a little, and she appears to calm herself a tad. ⟫
You fought bravely.

Is it bravery or is it recklessness? He can't tell. His friends would say it is stupid, his King...]
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough...
[Noctis still died. Before or after Ignis, he doesn't know, and frankly, it doesn't matter. Noctis died and is here and it troubles Ignis more than he's letting on.]

Your King?
⟪ Her hand is warm against his skin, gently touching his cheek as if meaning to soothe him. ⟫

Ignis sighs heavily and closes his eyes.]
He's here. [Died moments before or after him. Doesn't really matter really.]

⟪ She brushes a thumb across the back of his hand, but she knows full-well these comforts won't be enough. ⟫
Was your time the same? Did he get to complete his mission?
no subject
I... am not sure. [But that's not what's troubling him.] Astral, Goddess Leviathan, struck him down. The same Gods that keep asking my King to help them. [And Noctis did, without even questioning them. Regardless of what the Astrals did.]
Whatever happens now is... out of our hands.

⦓ she doesn't say: this is what comes from praying to false gods –– even she is tired tonight, tired and exhausted and not wanting to argue. even argue something she's so passionate about as the one true god. ⦔
Strange, to leave the world out there to safe itself, isn't it?
no subject
After such a long time of fighting, yes, it is.
[He sighs softly, leaning forward onto his knees, fingers entwined-]
Although, it feels like isn't over yet...
