EVENT LOG: GRAVES

EVENT LOG:
GRAVES

characters: everyone.
location: Bonfire Square.
date/time: July 12-19.
content: mysterious shrines appear and bring visions of death.
warnings: likely violence and potentially gore.

time to pay your respects.

It happens when no one is looking, when most of the town is asleep and the rest are inside. A makeshift cemetery has come to Beacon, taking up residence in the middle of Bonfire Square. Each monument, shrine, and altar is dedicated to someone who now resides here, a memorial of their previous life.

Some may be drawn by curiosity, others by fear, and some may simply have to pass through this strange graveyard to get to the Bonfire itself. Whenever a person gets near, the altars beckon with a mysterious urge— an urge to approach, and an urge to leave something behind. They will feel compelled to make offerings at the various shrines, but doing so has a curious effect; it causes one to experience the death of the person whose grave they've honored.

Whether you resist the compulsion or give in willingly (or something in between), you'll also have to wrestle with the fact that a grave exists for you. Will you let your death be known, or try your best to keep it secret? Destroying it sure won't work, as it will return— with a duplicate somewhere else in town.

However you choose to deal with this, one thing is hard to ignore— this a tangible reminder of your death, and the fact that it's probably permanent.

[ no one buries their androids back home. no, they wouldn't, would they? they'd probably recycle parts, junk others. he can imagine what diego would think about that.

he hadn't expected the answer to his question to be anything but tragic, but still, jesus. ]

I'm sorry. [ words that always feel hollow, but there's not much else to say in the face of a story like that. ] Shouldn't have asked.

( she smiles, sadly and shakes her head. )

I just worry that she might be here in this place. Lost, somewhere, in the dark. Our deaths were so close together but― ( and she sighs, he didn't sign up to listen to her ramble about her wild thoughts and what-ifs. ) But it's alright. I appreciate you listening, Five.

[ he taps his fingers on the side of his leg, admits, ]

I haven't ruled out the possibility of other towns like this. There's someone I would've expected to see here too, but he's not here.

[ ben had died a long time before five, but if this is some afterlife -- though on the other hand, ben deserved to go somewhere so much better than where five does. ]

I truly hope she is in a better place than this. Yet I still cannot help worrying especially when we know so very little about this place and especially those that apparently came before us.

( perhaps that is just something that happens when you are a mother? a human, too, perhaps? it was just so hard to figure out sometimes. )

... One of your siblings? ( it's rude, truly. she shouldn't ask but finds she can't help herself. )

[ human, five might think; he feels much the same way, when it comes to ben.

her question might be rude, but he doesn't seem bothered. ]

My brother. He died a long time ago, but I always wondered if I'd see him again when I did. [ he shrugs. ] Guess not.
