EVENT LOG: GRAVES

EVENT LOG:
GRAVES

characters: everyone.
location: Bonfire Square.
date/time: July 12-19.
content: mysterious shrines appear and bring visions of death.
warnings: likely violence and potentially gore.

time to pay your respects.

It happens when no one is looking, when most of the town is asleep and the rest are inside. A makeshift cemetery has come to Beacon, taking up residence in the middle of Bonfire Square. Each monument, shrine, and altar is dedicated to someone who now resides here, a memorial of their previous life.

Some may be drawn by curiosity, others by fear, and some may simply have to pass through this strange graveyard to get to the Bonfire itself. Whenever a person gets near, the altars beckon with a mysterious urge— an urge to approach, and an urge to leave something behind. They will feel compelled to make offerings at the various shrines, but doing so has a curious effect; it causes one to experience the death of the person whose grave they've honored.

Whether you resist the compulsion or give in willingly (or something in between), you'll also have to wrestle with the fact that a grave exists for you. Will you let your death be known, or try your best to keep it secret? Destroying it sure won't work, as it will return— with a duplicate somewhere else in town.

However you choose to deal with this, one thing is hard to ignore— this a tangible reminder of your death, and the fact that it's probably permanent.

[the way she says it brings a small smirk to his lips]

There is that. Far be it from me to judge, I've never been to sea at all. I would perhaps be as lost in terms of the risks as anyone else.

[ Arya had been on the sea a few times, but never in charge of a vessel of her own. The Starks weren't sailors and never had been, and she learned that the hard way. ]

So was I. [ But she shrugs, dismissing herself easily. She's always been far too familiar with death. ] But now I guess it's too late.

Perhaps. But that also means there remains no one here who can rightfully scold you for past mistakes. It's over, and apparently, done.

[it may not sound like an attempt to soothe or raise spirits, but in a way it is. Cao Pi prefers good advice to back-pats.]

I intruded because your tomb intrigued me. So many here have barely a stone, but this is quite...elaborate. I like it.

[ She doesn't have much to say about the first part, but she can't help her wry little smile when he mentions liking the Stark design. She looks at it herself, her smile turning melancholy. ]

Usually, they are made only for the Kings of Winter or the Lords of Winterfell. But statues were carved for my father and his brother and sister, too. Perhaps... perhaps statues have been carved for me and my brothers at home.

Oh? I suppose it's not entirely unheard of for a faithful retainer to deserve the same honor as their lord.

[he says it uncertainly, though, as if instead of asking outright whether she's royalty, he's unsure whether any of those words are correct and willing to let her correct him. So sue him, he's been playing courtly games way too long for someone his age.]
