EVENT LOG: GRAVES

EVENT LOG:
GRAVES

characters: everyone.
location: Bonfire Square.
date/time: July 12-19.
content: mysterious shrines appear and bring visions of death.
warnings: likely violence and potentially gore.

time to pay your respects.

It happens when no one is looking, when most of the town is asleep and the rest are inside. A makeshift cemetery has come to Beacon, taking up residence in the middle of Bonfire Square. Each monument, shrine, and altar is dedicated to someone who now resides here, a memorial of their previous life.

Some may be drawn by curiosity, others by fear, and some may simply have to pass through this strange graveyard to get to the Bonfire itself. Whenever a person gets near, the altars beckon with a mysterious urge— an urge to approach, and an urge to leave something behind. They will feel compelled to make offerings at the various shrines, but doing so has a curious effect; it causes one to experience the death of the person whose grave they've honored.

Whether you resist the compulsion or give in willingly (or something in between), you'll also have to wrestle with the fact that a grave exists for you. Will you let your death be known, or try your best to keep it secret? Destroying it sure won't work, as it will return— with a duplicate somewhere else in town.

However you choose to deal with this, one thing is hard to ignore— this a tangible reminder of your death, and the fact that it's probably permanent.

[He doesn't see his roommate as often as he thought he would, probably because he spends a lot of time outside of the room. But she's true to her word, she doesn't bother him needlessly, and true to his, he sticks to his own business.

Which is why he's a little surprised by the offering. Surprised but not unappreciative. Black is just perfect.]

Of course. It's the only sensible thing to do. I've experienced one death, and that was too many. I'd rather not collect any more.

[He takes the coffee and actually doesn't sniff it for poison. He's getting slightly better about that. Surely she has no reason to kill him?]

So, did you get unlucky, or did you learn what was going on from others?

[On the random chance she did have something against someone enough to want them gone, she wouldn't kill them with poisoned coffee, anyway. That would just be lame.]

Unlucky. Ran into the site of someone I know here. [It was very unpleasant and even more horrible than her own. No more of that, thank you very much.] I made the mistake of trying to destroy mine after that and I don't recommend it.

[She moves to have a seat on her mattress, blowing on the surface of her coffee to cool it before she takes a sip.]

Hm, unfortunate.

[He really does think that's unfortunate, but like, everything he says sounds sarcastic, so.]

Did you at least learn anything interesting? [That's been the only thing that made him even slightly consider going out there. But then he already knows they're all dead. Does it really matter how?]

I'm not even sure what mine looks like. What happens when you try to destroy them?

[At least she's probably used to that by now.]

I'm not sure interesting is the word I would use. More like brutal.

[She'd had to live through Scarlett sacrificing herself in a rather bloody fashion.]

It was more painful than mine, that's for sure. [She frowns then, thinking back to when she'd watched her urn explode into a shower of dust only to find it again later.] It comes back. Twice.
