BABES IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG
he'd guessed that he'd been talking to someone on the younger side, but not this young. it's mostly because he's already out of sorts about Grizz, but it's a little bit because Matt Murdock can take on guilt like the Titanic took on water — he feels a little badly he never checked in again until random happenstance brought them to the same room. )
That's me. ( he offers a tired smile. it isn't as easy as usual. ) Apparently I'm not the only one anymore. Steve, right?
NO WORRIES!!! smoochsmooch real life amirite
[ Steve's tone is light, like maybe it's an attempt at humour, but there's sincerity in his words too. It really could have been a bit awkward, just calling someone out by a random feature like that.
It means something to him, of course, because it hearkens back to an actual conversation. Probably won't mean much to a rando wearing sunglasses. ]
But yeah, that's me. Good to meet you again, for real this time.
oh my god MOOD. life is the worst
it's been awhile since they spoke, limitedly, on network at that. it's not as if they know too much about each other, but still. they've got some catching up to do. )
Come on. Sit down. ( Matt is sitting by himself (of course he is), so there's plenty of room for Steve to join him. ) How have you been?
tRULY
Cool, thanks. [ Steve settles into the seat across from Matt, half-considering whether he might want something to eat or drink while he's here. Not now, of course, but ... you know, in a bit. ]
I mean, I guess it's the same for everyone here; I've had my good days and some bad ones. Got lost in the woods for like, a week? Woof, that was rough.

the Incinvible is at least good for a meal, that's usually why Matt drops in. he's incredibly disinterested in cooking, even if he has enough basic skills to manage. it's much easier to stop in and get something already made, even if it's bound to be simple. it's still better than having to make it himself.
it's totally not Steve's fault, that the idea he was lost in the woods for weeks makes Matt's dumb catholic heart ache. his jaw tightens, a momentarily clenched line, and then it's gone. )
Be careful out there. Sometimes people that get lost don't come back.
( it's a pretty grim warning, but an important one. he's speaking from experience on this one. )

[ Personally? Steve's no fan of disappearing without a trace. Worse still, he thinks about what it'll do to Nancy and Eleven who are his only ties here from home. ]
It's not like I meant to get lost, you know? Those woods ... there's something really — really wrong about them.
[ Even without the everlasting darkness, the shadows in those woods felt a whole lot heavier, darker than the usual. ]
You ever been out there?
