INTRO LOG: NOVEMBER

INTRO LOG: NOVEMBER
OLD FAT BOAT
characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, and around town.
date/time: november 1-3.
content: the ferry's back! yay! and it's piled high with goodies! yay!
warnings: n/a.
welcome to beacon.
It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.
You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern that glows steadily with a healthy flame.
You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.
Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.
In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.•••
To everyone's surprise, the ferry does indeed arrive on schedule. Right on time, it comes chugging along toward the beach, though its usually noisy engines are silent. And it seems to be sitting quite low in the water... Hmm.
Unfortunately for those unlucky enough to find themselves onboard, there isn't yet a replacement dock for the one that was destroyed last month. The ferry stops right where it would normally anchor, but then... that's it.
Logistically, there's good news and bad news: The good news is that the ferry is only about 25-30 feet from shore, which is well within the safety of the harbor and is a manageable distance for swimming with an open flame. The bad news? It's... 25-30 feet from shore, which is going to make unloading supplies, er, tricky.
The usual monthly stock has also come in, but, oh, what's this? There's an awful lot in the cargo hold. An awful, awful lot. As a matter of fact, the boat is absolutely filled with food and goods. The storage areas are packed tight, but the bounty spills out onto the decks, and even into the cabins. It's entirely possible that some of the newbies woke up surrounded by potatoes, or with a carton of eggs balanced on them. Maybe even in a pile of Beacon's signature standard clothing. In short, the ferry has become a proverbial horn of plenty.
Where all this stuff came from is one mystery, but another is how to get it all to shore. Better unload it before the weight sinks the ferry again! Just kidding. (Or are we?)
At a glance, the only thing out of place on the ferry is that the door to the bridge is welded shut. Seems a small price to pay for this resurrection though, doesn't it? Besides that one door and all these goodies piled high on the ship, it's almost as if the ferry crash never even happened. Maybe things will be okay after all?
Or maybe the new arrivals will have something to say about that. 🤔
And speaking of newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.
ooc.
Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! For this intro log, you are officially without a chaperone. Rastus is back at the bonfire, Will is characteristically elusive, and Robin is, well, you know where she's at. It's up to the veteran residents to fill in the new folks.
As hinted above, it's also up to veteran residents (and newbies alike) to figure out the missing dock situation. Some efforts have already been started to rebuild the structure, but until that's done, the logistics are in your hands! Swim for it, fly for it, teleport to the beach, or maybe use one of the rafts or boats built earlier to shuttle people to and fro. Whatever you do, just make sure you get all the cargo (and people!) off the ferry before it departs.
As an additional note: We will NOT be tracking how you do all of that! There's no need to report salvage efforts to us, as by now, we trust y'all players to make things happen. So long as we see these challenges getting addressed ICly, we'll assume the town came together and figured it out somehow. Nice work, everyone!

DELIVERIES
The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
- The monthly store restock
- A smorgasbord of other items; though limited in scope to the items typically found in the restock/stores, there's an abundance of everything.
- And that's it. With the fate of the ferry uncertain, Rastus was unable to order deliveries last month. :(
- ...Except for a single box of blueberry Poptarts for Peter Parker.

( prompt: shore! //SHAKES IN EXCITEMENT WHAT UP. )
well- either way- the lump of red-and-gold metal actually begins to move and sit up. soon the pile reveals that it's very much not a pile but, rather, a humanoid(?) who is looking down at akira with flickering blue optics. as if drowsily blinking their eyes. ]
Er- Sorry- [ daylight pauses, yawning a bit as the winglets behind flare to view and wiggle a bit to work out its kinks. ] I was taking a nap for a second. Tired ferrying people.
Did you- [ another yawn. excuse him about that...! ] Did you see a spirit, maybe? They're usually friendly.
DAYLIIIIIIGHT!!!
Mmmmmaybe?
[he has yet to run into any confirmed spirits of Beacon, so it's tough for him to say]
Do the spirits here glow?
YESSSSSSSS. (I MUST VANISH NOW BECAUSE TIMEZONES BUT YESSSS)
daylight sits up straight, looking a little bit worried as he looks over the guy's shoulder. like he'll see whatever he had seen to prompt the question. ]
The forest spirits don't glow. Not the last time I interacted with them. [ did they have torches...? no. that's silly. not after the play. ] Where did you see it, mister?
[ it's a little weird to address the guy as mister, daylight admits, but he's only, like, half sure of the guy being made his possible age bracket and that's not a safe enough bet for him. so 'mister' is until otherwise...!
(not that he minds. the fact he isn't reacting to daylight's appearance is really nice.) ]
I HAD WORK so it was all good!!
Whoa, whoa. I'm too young to be a "mister."
[Akira has no idea how to gauge robot ages considering this guy is the very first robot he's ever met, buuuuut he definitely doesn't want to be a "mister." he's only sixteen, let him live!!]
[that said, Akira lifts a hand and wags it back and forth]
It was underneath the water. I couldn't see what it was, only it's shadow and the bright blue glowing lights on its body.
no subject
he looks back at the waters and sees them in a whole new figurative light, his winglets folding behind him even as he raised his lantern up higher to try and get a look at what mister- at what the nice guy just described. ]
I... I never heard of something like that before and I've been here since the start of this, er, thing.
[ he rubs the back of his neck, humming in thoughtfulness as something occurs to him. ]
-It's possible we, um, woke something up when the ferry and dock were accidentally destroyed last month. That definitely made a big ruckus.
no subject
[yeah]
[that'd possibly do it]
I wouldn't discount the possibility.
[Akira comments lightly, almost jokingly, before he gives a thoughtful hum. his next response is more serious]
I think whatever it was helped bring us to shore.
no subject
Oh! Really? That's nice to know. [ he explains a little bit more: ] I guess that means they're like the forest spirits. They- Oh man, sorry if this is a lot to take in- The forest spirits are these, um, beings you'll be seeing around here from time to time.
Most of them mean well. They just want to live their lives and seem willing to interact with us.
[ though do note that daylight said 'most of them' and not something more assuring like, say, 'all of them' or 'them', period. ]
no subject
[he is primed and ready to absorb all strange information about this place. and laid back enough to just. . . go with the weirdo flow]
What about the ones who don't want to be our friends?
no subject
once again, daylight finds himself very grateful that aziraphale is here because that newbie guide is very helpful for situations like these. it gives daylight more time to think about the important questions.
like this one, just asked- ] Um- They tend to get aggressive. I know some spirits will leave you be and just try to look mean but others will lash out. It's why we have to be careful while exploring the forests and such.
no subject
[he finds himself grateful that he maintained the ability to use his Personas, even in "death."]
I'll remember that; thanks.
[a small sigh, and he turns his attention back to the lake]
But all that stuff about spirits still doesn't answer my question about what lurks out there.
[maybe he should try paying the creature a visit, once he gets himself settled]
no subject
[ daylight holds out his servos sheepishly while he speaks, his expression apologetic but also making it clear that he's unsure of what else to say that could be reassuring.
the most he could do is explain a bit further. maybe offer an alternative: ] I definitely suggest that you try to have a chat with Ms. Robin and Dr. Ingram when you get the chance. They've been here the longest but... a heads up: Getting information from them, at times, is kinda weird.
no subject
[he huffs an amused noise and slips his hands into his pockets. he's still carrying the eggs from earlier, not that Daylight would be aware of that fact]
Kind of weird in that "they're really cagey" kind of way?
Or in that "they speak an entirely different language from us" kind of way?
no subject
his winglets do pick up the slack. namely in hitching up for a split second before they lower down as if ashamed and wanting to hide from view now. ]
... It's a, um, case of 'little bit of column a, a little bit of column b.'
[ he further explains, to the best of his ability: ] Ms. Robin has been here the longest. She lives in the lighthouse and can't do a lot of things due to... rules? Regulations? I'm not sure but she can't freely give info at times.
Dr. Ingram is from a time period that's closer to my own due to stuff we found out over in the past - so probably around the 2200s, give or take? - and also super smart so he's very scientisty and it, um, shows.
[ daylight is trying his very hardest to be polite since the two, in their own ways, are trying to help.
it's very hard. ]
no subject
I get it.
[rules and regulations sound stupid, so he makes a mental note to ask Robin about those when he first speaks with her. and a super smart scientisty type has got to be a little full of himself, right?]
Got any tips for dealing with them?
no subject
[ hrm... is that actually helpful? he's not quite sure.
honestly- he's not sure how better else to explain this but, by gosh, is daylight going to give it a shot: ] Like... When you check the network app and compare their activity, you'll see that Ms. Robin making more posts compared to Dr. Ingram. But when Dr. Ingram talks, he talks.
So, depending on what you want, you should keep that in mind. [ he pauses, something coming to mind. ] Oh! And you should check out Rastus and the Friend Under the Trapdoor. Rastus takes care of the bonfire and the Friend Under the Trapdoor... Um... Really helps us out, when we need to be revived.
[ yeah, that's a heck of a thing to just drop at the end of a meandering sentence. he wasn't sure how to end it and he has the decency to look apologetic for that. ]
no subject
[THAT SURE IS A THING TO DROP ON THE END OF A MEANDERING SENTENCE!!]
[Akira was already paying attention, but he suddenly stands up a little straighter, as though snapping to attention. revived? does that mean. . .?]
What do you mean "revived?"
["revived" in the sense of "being brought back to life and sent home?" way to get his hopes up, Daylight!1]
no subject
oh whoops a daylight!one day... er... day will learn how to properly talk around others. one day.)unfortunately(?), daylight's next words may quickly pop akira's hopes: ]
Well... We can still die here in Beacon. That's a big, um, thing we have to deal with here from time to time.
[ daylight looks apologetic. like he's at fault for all of this happening. which isn't true, he knows, but he feels kind of bad because... maybe he could have worded that better, definitely. ]
The Friend - they live in the church, under the trapdoor - will help us by taking our bodies and... do something to us.
After a few days, they'll return us to the pews and we're good as new. [ he pauses here, looking genuinely conflicted by something. was he trying to decide if he should say anything else? ] There might be... hiccups, now and then, though. When you come back. So definitely try to not... get too hurt.
no subject
[oh. that somehow makes more sense, but Akira's shoulders slump slightly at the correction of his assumptions. right. . . making his way back to Tokyo wasn't going to be easy. which was fine, because he was willing to work for it]
[that's a problem for another day, though]
Don't worry; I don't plan on getting hurt. [or dying a second time. once was enough!! if he could even consider what happened to be a true death] Have you been able to actually talk to this "friend?"
[because if this "friend" can revive people who die a second time in Beacon, maybe they do know how to send everyone home?]
no subject
he explains, ] You can! It's actually really easy, honestly. [ day gestures as he speaks, clearly animated and confident with this answer of his. ] They seem to have a residence under the trapdoor of the church - can't miss it, there' a sign over it and everything - and they respond to most messages and stuff if you give them.
[ daylight makes a gesture towards beacon but towards a specificish direction. ] You can even use the post office to send them messages and everything! I did that once and they were very nice.
no subject
But they don't have a name?
no subject
[ daylight falls quiet here, raising up a servo to make a so-and-so gesture as he tried to find his words that are both accurate but, you know, nice.
the friend, so far, has been nothing but nice to daylight. ]
-succinct, most of the time. [ he thinks that's a good way to describe them, yeah. ] Prefer to keep to themselves but if you approach them, you'll get some form of response.
no subject
I feel like "Mysterious Friend Under the Church" isn't a very good name. Why don't we try something simple?
Like Bob.
[OKAY AKIRA]
no subject
Bob! I think- [ he giggles again, his winglets fluttering behind him in excitement. ] I think that's a good name to go with. Very- Normal.
[ it's definitely a lot less ominous-sounding than what daylight and, possible, the others have been calling the friend- bob since realising of bob's presence. ]
no subject
And I think we could all use something-- ah. "Normal" around here, right?
no subject
or send possibly bob a letter for a heads up about this. postmaster general deserves to do more things...!. ]
Nope. [ at the comment, daylight smiles in return as he lets out a huff. Not at all. ] That's one of the things you learn about Beacon real quick when you arrive.
But- We're all working together. We're all trying to get by and learn much as we can about this world. We're in this together, after all.
