INTRO LOG: NOVEMBER

INTRO LOG: NOVEMBER
OLD FAT BOAT
characters: everyone.
location: the harbor, and around town.
date/time: november 1-3.
content: the ferry's back! yay! and it's piled high with goodies! yay!
warnings: n/a.
welcome to beacon.
It's dim, and the room won't stop swaying, gently rocking you back and forth. A loud sound startles you fully awake, a deep, moaning call: a foghorn. As your eyes adjust, you note faint red light streaking through the room from a tiny, round window.
You've found yourself in a private room, lying on a bed. The last things you remember are the events that led up to your death. Beside you is a folded tablet and a lantern that glows steadily with a healthy flame.
You're on a ship. And that ship is docking.
Making your way to the deck, and eventually the pier, you find only moonlight to greet you, and a dark forest beyond. There are other people here, each with their own unique lantern, and many of them look just as lost as you are. On the ferry you've just disembarked from, the speaker system begins to play a song.
In the distance, across the waters of the lake, you can see the tall silhouette of a lighthouse, its red light slowly turning.•••
To everyone's surprise, the ferry does indeed arrive on schedule. Right on time, it comes chugging along toward the beach, though its usually noisy engines are silent. And it seems to be sitting quite low in the water... Hmm.
Unfortunately for those unlucky enough to find themselves onboard, there isn't yet a replacement dock for the one that was destroyed last month. The ferry stops right where it would normally anchor, but then... that's it.
Logistically, there's good news and bad news: The good news is that the ferry is only about 25-30 feet from shore, which is well within the safety of the harbor and is a manageable distance for swimming with an open flame. The bad news? It's... 25-30 feet from shore, which is going to make unloading supplies, er, tricky.
The usual monthly stock has also come in, but, oh, what's this? There's an awful lot in the cargo hold. An awful, awful lot. As a matter of fact, the boat is absolutely filled with food and goods. The storage areas are packed tight, but the bounty spills out onto the decks, and even into the cabins. It's entirely possible that some of the newbies woke up surrounded by potatoes, or with a carton of eggs balanced on them. Maybe even in a pile of Beacon's signature standard clothing. In short, the ferry has become a proverbial horn of plenty.
Where all this stuff came from is one mystery, but another is how to get it all to shore. Better unload it before the weight sinks the ferry again! Just kidding. (Or are we?)
At a glance, the only thing out of place on the ferry is that the door to the bridge is welded shut. Seems a small price to pay for this resurrection though, doesn't it? Besides that one door and all these goodies piled high on the ship, it's almost as if the ferry crash never even happened. Maybe things will be okay after all?
Or maybe the new arrivals will have something to say about that. 🤔
And speaking of newcomers, the tablet and the town have some resources available for getting acquainted with their new situation! In fact, as soon as they're prompted to enter a network username, an app containing all sorts of useful welcome information will launch. Newcomers can always check out the weekly bulletins and the records in town hall as well, and everyone's welcome to get in touch with the NPCs through their inboxes.
ooc.
Hey there, wonderful players, and welcome to In the Night! For this intro log, you are officially without a chaperone. Rastus is back at the bonfire, Will is characteristically elusive, and Robin is, well, you know where she's at. It's up to the veteran residents to fill in the new folks.
As hinted above, it's also up to veteran residents (and newbies alike) to figure out the missing dock situation. Some efforts have already been started to rebuild the structure, but until that's done, the logistics are in your hands! Swim for it, fly for it, teleport to the beach, or maybe use one of the rafts or boats built earlier to shuttle people to and fro. Whatever you do, just make sure you get all the cargo (and people!) off the ferry before it departs.
As an additional note: We will NOT be tracking how you do all of that! There's no need to report salvage efforts to us, as by now, we trust y'all players to make things happen. So long as we see these challenges getting addressed ICly, we'll assume the town came together and figured it out somehow. Nice work, everyone!

DELIVERIES
The following packages can be found in the cargo hold:
- The monthly store restock
- A smorgasbord of other items; though limited in scope to the items typically found in the restock/stores, there's an abundance of everything.
- And that's it. With the fate of the ferry uncertain, Rastus was unable to order deliveries last month. :(
- ...Except for a single box of blueberry Poptarts for Peter Parker.

Goro Akechi | OTA (Spoilers of near end game. Let me know if you want to avoid them)
What was the last thing he remembered...? Oh right. That gun shot. He was facing Shido's cognitive version of himself, but he wasn't going down without a fight. It was clear that he had miscalculated in his plans. Either way it didn't seem to matter because now everyone was going to find out he was a fraud and the Phantom Thieves of Heart were going to be the heroes... again. Adored by all and held in high regards. Meanwhile he was going to be reported missing after dying in the Metaverse. It was laughable at best.
To think his downfall was all because of one little slip up about pancakes. You couldn't trust anybody... Not even yourself. That much was apparent when his cognitive self was perfectly fine with taking the blame for Shido and then taking his own life. To Goro, he seemed like the puppet here, but it was very well likely that he -- despite the discontent he felt with the whole situation -- had been a puppet from the very beginning. He wanted to believe that he'd acted on his own will and made it this far on his own strength, but at some point he lost his ability to realize he wasn't really in control of his actions. Just as he had manipulated a good amount of people in his own interests, he too had been manipulated over time by Shido. That really bit him in the ass, now didn't it?
What now? Was there an after life? If there was a heaven or hell, there was definitely no way he was going to grow a pair of wings to sport that shiny new halo; Not after everything he had done. There was a saying that life flashed before your eyes before you died, but there was no way to scientifically prove that when those who experienced it were dead. Part of him believed that those people he'd killed with his abilities would be here waiting for him to give him a piece of their minds. The shoe was on the other foot now.
When he first woke up on the ship, he didn't think about much. He was dead, so it wasn't likely that anything that happened would mean anything to him now. He just lied there lost in his own mind for a while trying to take it all in stride. When he finally decided to move and see what he was supposed to do now, it didn't take long for him to notice how dark it was. He could have simply woke up during the night time or... something. The swaying of the boat didn't seem out of place, considering he had died on a cruise liner. The foghorn in the distance was loud enough to distract him from his thoughts, looking through the tiny window.
Looking around, he searched the small cabin for any sort of light switch, but there was nothing. If the boat had switches, nothing happened. Glancing over to look at the lantern, he noticed the tablet next to it. There was some pretty advanced technology out there, but he hadn't seen something this advance. Those thoughts would just have to wait. Grabbing the tablet and lantern, he went outside to examine his surroundings. There was a pier in the distance, but it was hard to see with this dark atmosphere.
So the ferry arrived to shore, but there doesn't seem to be a way off. That's.... not good. Goro hadn't even considered checking the stock yet. He had other things to worry about right now. How the hell was he going to get off of here and onto dry land? It looked swimmable, but wasn't there any other option here? Now taking the time to investigate the boat, there seemed to be a door welded shut. What were they hiding in there to weld it shut? Something valuable probably.
In The Night;
Now that head finally docked and reached land, it was time to figure out why he was here in the first place. It was pretty dark out and save for the red light the lighthouse gave off and the lantern he found near his bed, it was hard to make much out. With his outfit in tatters and a dark cape behind him, he really seemed to blind in the darkness. All save but his destroyed helmet, there wasn't much for bright colors to pick him out of the darkness. Maybe that was better for him at the moment. He wasn't 100% sure that he wanted to be seen just yet before figuring out where he could possibly be.
Eventually with no luck or progress upon figuring things out on his own, he'll eventually have to ask for help. So at some point if he sees you, you'll see a dark figure approach you apprehensively.
"Excuse me. Can I ask you a few questions?" It's a simple question, but he doesn't seem all that emotional right now. It was more like he was numb. There was a lot to take in and no answers at the moment. While he didn't seem to show much emotion in his approach, internally he's going through a multitude of emotions, all being suppressed by his fake facade for the sake of getting answers. He could have a freak out later when he's somewhere private and alone.
My Talent Exceeds Yours;
[Feel free to use any other prompt you'd like. I'm open to anything while I try to settle into the game.]
[OOC: I'm going to be slow on replies since I'm currently at a convention and it's 3am right now, so I may be losing my mind as I write this intro. I'll do my best to respond as much as I can this weekend since I'm excited to be here, but here's my OOC Intro for more information~]
In the night
So really, fucking miserable.
And of course, the ferry sank. That was a thing that happened, and the fallout had been-- well, it happened and pretty much everyone had done what they could to save the new people and the supplies, but the town was still down on just about everything except the really gross stuff. If the ferry hadn't come. Come back? Was it the same one?
There's really no to tell.
Quentin still goes down to where the docks used to be, to see what would happen and to get out of the cabin for a little while. To greet the new people, in case there were any, and to be first in line for the supplies - because reasons. Also, alcohol.
So, his mind is on that, just strolling towards the splinted docks, then the voice comes and he blinks rapidly, turning.]
Uh, hi. Yeah, sure. You can ask.
no subject
This may sound strange, but... where are we? [For all he knew, he should be dead right now.]
no subject
[Pat answer, and Quentin sighs, running a hand through his hair.]
This is Beacon. You died, so-uh, sorry about that? And you ended up here, like all the rest of us. We-- there should be something about it on your tablet, but-- uh. Don't ever leave your lantern behind. This is very important, this new life we have, it's tied to the lantern. So keep it close? And--and there are spirits here? Some of them are kind of okay? And some of them will kill you, so.
[He huffs, shifting on his feet.]
no subject
The tablet huh... I did see it off to the side, but I wasn't sure if it was left for me. [He'll have to scan through it later then.]
[This seemed a bit absurd, but he died to Shido's cognitive Akechi and became a puppet. He died to himself in the end. The Metaverse was pretty weird, so perhaps it was best not to put much stock into what was normal or not at this point..?]
Sounds like you have some experience with dealing with them.
no subject
[Quentin shakes his head, hands stuffed in to his pockets as he keeps his eyes the treeline.]
No? Not really? I mean, I stay in the cabin or at the library, and those places are-- safer?
no subject
Do things tend to get dangerous here from time to time?
[He didn't seem like the time to go out willingly in danger, but it was too soon to really say. Still, it would be good to know what he was getting himself into. After all, he didn't know what to expect after death.]
no subject
[At that Quentin's head snaps back around, jaw clenched and hands waving a little. It's not that he doesn't want the new person to know? Exactly? But, there's also the possibility of it freaking him the fuck out and sends him hurtling off in to the woods.]
Sometimes? But, I guess that depends on what you think is dangerous?
no subject
Funny. Death decided to give us the chance to play Sudoku. [And at the second part.] I guess it depends on what happens. I'm sure whatever it is, I'll manage.

Uh-huh.
[She seems to decide on something, and gives him a smile. Maybe he needs one.]
I've been here for awhile now, so I know a lot of things!
no subject
I see. Could you tell me about this place then? I seem to be lost.
no subject
[Thank you, small child, for your very succinct clarification.]
If you need a place to stay, there's an Inn that way [she points in one direction] and houses over that way, across the river [she points toward the forest].
no subject
So you're saying that we're dead, but somehow still alive? What is Beacon anyway?
[Because he clearly understands that he was shot, but this was... not what he expected. Was this the afterlife? No living person would know about what actually happened in the afterlife all things considered. Maybe it was something that happened? Your "life flashing before your eyes" perhaps...?]
no subject
[She hums slightly as she looks around, as if trying to decide for herself, as well.]
It's a town that lost its light. That's why it's really dark. The lanterns are what keeps us alive.
no subject
Instead he chose to focus on the matter at hand. Glancing over to his lantern that he found near the bed he woke up in, he took a moment to take the information in. It would explain why the town was so dark. How it lost it's light was still unknown, but he had only just arrived at Beacon. There was still plenty of stuff that he needed to learn about the place.]
What do you mean they keep us alive? [How silly to think their life could be tied to a simple lantern. It was too early to assume anything though.]
that's a huge me mood
[The why is one she can't really explain...it's just how things are. And not one to question it herself, she says it as if it's a simple fact.]
So you have to keep it with you all the time, and keep it safe, too.
I give up lol
Is there no way to revive the fire?
[He definitely took a mental note, but if this was tied to his life, it was important to find out the details.]

in the night
[it's the voice that gets to him first. something he really shouldn't be surprised to hear, considering Akechi's fate in the hull of Shido's ship. . . but it's something that sends his hackles raising and his heart thumping anyway]
[with silent surprise, eyes wide and mouth slightly parted, Akira tears his gaze from the lake and lifts his lantern to shed light on one of his fellow new arrivals, the name slipping from his mouth before he can stop himself]
Ak--
[. . . no. not when he's dressed like that]
-- Crow?
no subject
... Well, actually. More than just anger. There was a lot of emotions that he was going through right now. Anger, confusion, and self pity were just to name a few. There were so many questions going on in his mind. Wasn't he dead? If that was the case, why was Akira here? His skin crawled realizing that the one person that he probably shouldn't see was here.
How did he deal with this? There was so much anger, but he'd also made a deal with Akira to take care of Shido for him. If Akira was here, did that mean that he couldn't finish the job? That seemed unlikely, but how would he know? He was dead, after all. Should he be angry at him? Jealous that no matter how hard he tried, Akira just seemed to effortlessly have more luck than he did. Why should he get everything that Akechi wanted without working as hard as Akechi had? Why did he get to be the hero or the symbol of justice to the public after all of this? But somewhere deep down inside him, he couldn't hate him as much as he wanted to. Morgana's words stuck more than he had thought they would.
Should he hate him or feel relieved to see him? He was so conflicted on how to feel... What do you do in this situation? He had no protocol or back up plan for a situation like this. Even if he did, his mental stability was not the best right now. He could probably fake it and still come off as passible to anyone else, but the person standing before him. Anybody else would probably be none the wiser to his alter ego, even in the situation where he was obviously not okay.
Was there even a point in trying to hide how he really felt in front of Akira? Probably not; which is probably why he's not even bothering to hide his anger and disgust.]
If you're here, I'm guessing you failed your mission. [The deal.] Or have you come to laugh at me?
[Yeah... He's still being a sore loser about his defeat. He had no good information about what was going on now, so all he could assume was that Akira was also dead for some reason.]
no subject
[Akira can't say he had any expectations for what might happen if he were to ever meet Goro Akechi again. that's because, in the wake of the events that occurred in the engine room, he never thought he would. if Beacon is technically the afterlife, then both he and Akechi being here makes sense. but that doesn't make the encounter any easier to navigate. any less of a complete punch to the gut]
[he can't even begin to fathom what's going through Akechi's head at the moment. he can barely make sense of his own emotions-- the way his brain spins with shock and guilt and relief and a small smidgen of his own pent-up anger and wariness. but what he does know is that as soon as those words tumble from Akechi's mouth, he bristles defensively, because they feel like a punch to the gun]
[not here. not now. you have to focus. you can't fall apart now]
[Akira sets his jaw, lifting his lamp so she can shed light more clearly on the both of him, the shock in his expression hardening into determination as he lifts his chin]
Who do you think I am, Crow?
[Akira responds, voice low]
I keep my promises.
no subject
He kept his promise? So Shido had been dealt with and Akira was still here. That meant something bigger must have happened after his death. The question here was would it have affected Goro at all? And more importantly, would he care? Was it worth asking what happened to him?]
I see....
[But now what? Guess what. They're both dead. How do you small talk? Should he just leave?]
Something happened. [Obviously. Might as well address the elephant in the room.]
no subject
[is Akira's immediate and slightly sharp reply. perhaps a bit sharper than what Akechi deserved. Akira bites his tongue as soon as the words leave his mouth, his expression flickering from the almost offended determination to something more contrite. but only for a moment. . . something easy to miss among the shadows being cast across his figure from the lantern]
. . . what I mean is-- a lot happened.
[his grip on the lantern tightens, knuckles white]
But the one thing we managed to do was keep our promise.
[and that, at the very least, was something to take pride in]
no subject
I took several moments before he spoke, like he was thinking about what to say.]
.... Thank you.
[But it was only for a small moment before he turned away, glancing into the darkness with a sigh.]
I didn't think I'd see you of all people here. [But then the idea of what 'here' was was still a mystery until he could find out more.]

[Akechi just]

[there's a pause, and Akira shakes his head, before he turns his own gaze towards the darkness of the lake again as well. there isn't much to see out there, beyond the red glow of the lighthouse. some part of him is hoping that the creature living in the depths will make a second appearance]
Hah. What can I say. I'm like a cockroach.
[. . . now that Akira's had a moment or two to compose himself, some of his usual mannerisms return. including his awful sense of humor]
