EVENT LOG: BURY A FRIEND

EVENT LOG:
BURY A FRIEND
characters: everyone.
location: around town.
date/time: october 9-17.
content: the hallucinations begin...
warnings: psychological horror. please cw tags appropriately.
it's probably something that shouldn't be said out loud
October 9 feels like a normal day at first, save for the red lighthouse beam cutting through the darkness overhead. You know by now—or you've heard—that the lighthouse is only active during ferry arrivals and events... And there's definitely no ferry docked at the, er. Beach. The town is quiet, the forest spirits behave business-as-usual, Rastus doesn't know what's up. Whatever's going on, you'll have to figure it out for yourself.
And you will, though the hallucinations are subtle at first: objects moving when they shouldn't, people's proportions looking just a bit off, voices in an empty room, and so on. Is it just your mind playing tricks in the darkness? Might be! Will did warn you all about the effects of living without a sun and a proper day/night cycle.
As the days go on, the hallucinations are harder to ignore, no matter how much you may wish to wave them off as flukes. What's wrong with everyone's faces? When did all the howling start? Who do you hold onto when the world drops out from under you? And those hands...
While you might know it can't be real, it certainly feels real. But at least it can't last forever!
...Right?

you're too kind!!
( which he would like to avoid. )
Have you ever hallucinated like this before?
no subject
kol sighs; it doesn't make him feel any better. ]
Yes… and no.
[ carding a hand through his hair, he shrugs to try and relieve the tension that seems to be permanently coiled in his body. ]
Nothing for this long and nothing this… potent. Last time this happened to me it was either a trick or a witch trying to get back at me for upsetting her. It only last at least five minutes and was far less specific.
no subject
( it's said lightly though, not really all that serious. )
You have any ideas what could be causing something this potent? Poison in the air?
no subject
he doesn't think this is witchcraft, even though it does fit the m.o. of some he knows. it's too broad and too punishing of people who haven't done a single thing to spite them.
he shrugs, disliking the feeling of hopelessness that washes over him. ] Those flowers? Someone could've stumbled upon something that hasn't been found before and have triggered it. Or it could be a spirit we've pissed off who has enough power to upset the entire town.
[ ftr, kol hates not knowing. ]
no subject
I don't know which one I'd prefer. I'd rather not have been exposed to some kind of toxic poison but I'd also like to avoid pissing off spirits.
( wasn't there an easier solution than either of those options? )
None of the above, of course, but I think that's out of the question now.
no subject
There's no point in focusing on how it happened. The flowers are gone—I can't smell them anymore. Unless smelling them again will somehow make all of this stop…?
[ kol doesn't even appear like he believes that. it's not even an option. but sometimes what he thinks is ridiculous might be what triggers someone else to figure it out... or bond with him in the ridiculousness of that attempt at villainy. ]
no subject
( look, he's trying not to freak out too much which means he's going to joke around at least a tiny bit. )
Maybe something red? Or pink? Something pretty to take your mind off things?
no subject
[ does he? does he really?
he does. kol always liked the yellow wild flowers he could find back when he was a kid—a long, long, long time ago. despite that throwback, he wears a smile, like he's kidding around. ]
If you're going to get me any. Any flower will do as long as it's yellow.
no subject
( he would have guessed you a more darker color man, kol. but he's glad to be surprised. )
Now, you're just going to start finding yellow flowers everywhere and ruing the day you told me that tidbit of information.
no subject
Are you disappointed I like yellow?
[ he likes black and red, but it all seems so obvious for someone like him. keeping people like ambrose on their toes is far more fun—and he does like yellow roses. ]
no subject
( that just makes it more fun. it means he doesn't know it all (as much as he likes to think he does) and things can still catch him off guard. )
But yellow's a good color though. It's a good color. Suits you.
