EVENT LOG: BURY A FRIEND

EVENT LOG:
BURY A FRIEND

characters: everyone.
location: around town.
date/time: october 9-17.
content: the hallucinations begin...
warnings: psychological horror. please cw tags appropriately.

it's probably something that shouldn't be said out loud

October 9 feels like a normal day at first, save for the red lighthouse beam cutting through the darkness overhead. You know by now—or you've heard—that the lighthouse is only active during ferry arrivals and events... And there's definitely no ferry docked at the, er. Beach. The town is quiet, the forest spirits behave business-as-usual, Rastus doesn't know what's up. Whatever's going on, you'll have to figure it out for yourself.

And you will, though the hallucinations are subtle at first: objects moving when they shouldn't, people's proportions looking just a bit off, voices in an empty room, and so on. Is it just your mind playing tricks in the darkness? Might be! Will did warn you all about the effects of living without a sun and a proper day/night cycle.

As the days go on, the hallucinations are harder to ignore, no matter how much you may wish to wave them off as flukes. What's wrong with everyone's faces? When did all the howling start? Who do you hold onto when the world drops out from under you? And those hands...

While you might know it can't be real, it certainly feels real. But at least it can't last forever!

...Right?

sorry for how late this is;

[He bites at the inside of his mouth, takes another careful breath. She just hides the firearm like he hadn't already seen it, like she doesn't have any idea what he's talking about. Does that make her stupid, scared, confused, or all three? And once he sorts that out, what will it take to make her drop the gun?]

Look, I love a coy chick as much as the next guy, but there's a limit to these things, y'know? Be bashful about your bra size not your blaster. I'm talking about the piece you're hiding!
isochrone: (lies and invites another danger)

no problem!

I beg your pardon, that's-- how rude!

[ Well... if it's one thing guaranteed to make Elizabeth go from uncertain to defiant, its an insult. But between blaster and piece she's at least able to determine what it is he means. ]

You think I have a gun?
mellowyellow: (the afterlife smells like latex gloves)

[And here he is trying his damnedest not to be rude! This is so much harder than it sounds. He gulps back what he really wants to say in favor of something a bit less accusatory.]

You're not exactly hiding it well.
isochrone: (destroyer and preserver hear)

Not hiding... but I don't have one! How can I hide something I don't have?

[ It doesn't occur to her yet, that this might be one of the hallucinations. This seems too real, too tangible a thing to accuse, lacking ghastly figments and haunting essence, to qualify. Elizabeth puts her hands on her hips, her lantern swinging from one wrist. ]

I wouldn't want a gun anyway.
mellowyellow: (i was having a really bad night)

Great! Awesome! That's what every guy wants to hear from the sexy stranger he just ran into!

[With a strained smile, he outstretches his hand, coaxing her forward with curled fingers.]

So hand it over, and I'll unload it for you.

[She's trying way too hard to insist she doesn't have the thing that she is very obviously shielding from him, and it worries him more each time. Is she determined to keep it for some other reason besides protection?]

After all, who needs bullets when you've got me? I'm way scarier than anything you'll meet here. Have you seen my comedy act?
isochrone: (living hues and odours plain and hill)

[ Well. All right, it's a little flattering to be called sexy by a random stranger, but Elizabeth is more concerned by the young man's apparent disillusion that she's armed. Very carefully, with deliberate movements, she sets her lantern at her feet and holds out both hands to show they're empty. ]

There, you see? I don't have anything to hand over. Are you... feeling all right?
