October 9 feels like a normal day at first, save for the red lighthouse beam cutting through the darkness overhead. You know by now—or you've heard—that the lighthouse is only active during ferry arrivals and events... And there's definitely no ferry docked at the, er. Beach. The town is quiet, the forest spirits behave business-as-usual, Rastus doesn't know what's up. Whatever's going on, you'll have to figure it out for yourself.

And you will, though the hallucinations are subtle at first: objects moving when they shouldn't, people's proportions looking just a bit off, voices in an empty room, and so on. Is it just your mind playing tricks in the darkness? Might be! Will did warn you all about the effects of living without a sun and a proper day/night cycle.

As the days go on, the hallucinations are harder to ignore, no matter how much you may wish to wave them off as flukes. What's wrong with everyone's faces? When did all the howling start? Who do you hold onto when the world drops out from under you? And those hands...

While you might know it can't be real, it certainly feels real. But at least it can't last forever!

...Right?

Well. Simply because we are the current inhabitants of this world, dear. And we would like to continue living some semblance of life.

Well, I think they're here to eat everything in their way. And we happen to be in the way, Ambrose.

And once they're done with us, they're going to what? Go after the living world?

And I'd really rather they not, if you catch my drift.

( he trails off and blows out a breath. )

I'd rather that not happen either. Any ideas on how to beat them?

I've been trying to ask the spirits, but the only one who speaks fluent English doesn't want any part in telling me. He told me that I could ask Rastus or the Keeper, but I think they're quite angry with me at the moment-- if-- actually, if you might like to ask them for tips...

I don't think I've ever spoken with Rastus.

But when you say the Keeper, do you mean Robin? She likes me okay, I think.

Yes - Robin, the Lighthouse Keeper.

But oh, that's good. I don't think she likes me.

Yes, well. I doubt she is pleased after the, um.

Ferry incident, shall we say.

Oh, right.

( ambrose eyes him, eyes narrowed for a second before shaking his head. )

You tried apologizing?

Well, I did but. Not privately, I suppose.

I guess I'll have to apologize separately to Rastus... He's been so kind.

[necromantiae]

Privately might be a little better. Might mean a little more.

( it did in his experience, at least. )

They might not forgive you but at least you're taking the first step and trying.

Yes, you're right.

But perhaps... when this is done. Won't want them to think I'm imagined. Or... worse, that I'm real but my face is falling right off.

Which, is it alright right now?

It looks all right.

( he peers closer before sighing and then nodding. )

Yeah, you're all in one piece. If anything starts falling off, I'll let you know just in the rare case that it's actually happening. Wouldn't want you to walk around without your nose or something.

Oh, yes, that sounds quite like the plague.

I really hope this doesn't last very much longer...

I hope that as well.

( but, unlike the last time he'd been seeing things, he doesn't know a solution out of this predicament. )

Until then, maybe I'll just put myself under a sleep spell so I don't have to deal with it.

Oh yes, very useful. But won't you... be harmed? Even those who had not eaten before feel hunger here.

It's very... jarring.

I was trying not to think of that.

( because yes, that's true. )

I could always have someone hook me to food and water via an IV but that sounds like a lot of work. And kind of gross.

Probably not a good idea, no.

But I can come by with food if you don't wish to leave your house.

That's nice of you.

( he doesn't know if he's going to go through with this plan but it's nice to know someone would help keep him alive. )

It's not a full proof plan but it might be all I have.

Yes, quite unfortunate. But I suppose at least we have options!

You're the optimistic sort, aren't you?

That's good. I suppose someone has to be so we don't all get bogged down in the doom and the gloom.

Well, won't do to just sit around and mope.

Though, possibly best to stay with other people. I imagine some of these illusions could lead to grand misunderstandings.
