EVENT LOG: GATHER UP

EVENT LOG:
GATHER UP
characters: everyone.
location: beacon at large.
date/time: september 16-25.
content: a town-wide selfie scavenger hunt!
warnings: unflattering camera angles.
🔎📸😘
It starts with a network post, and then a song begins to play in the Invincible, loud enough to be heard throughout Bonfire Square. Welcome to the scavenger hunt, everyone! You've been tasked with finding 25 "items" in and around Beacon, so hop to it!
Please remember to ICly report your findings on Robin's network post if you want them to count toward a prize! As a further reminder, you're free to interpret the list items however you/your character would like, and you're free to assume your character can find all of these things somewhere in town without running into trouble! Just don't stray too far from town to go gallivanting off into the wilderness, as that might be dangerous. This includes finding forest spirits! You're welcome to NPC your own forest spirit encounters, just like in our last event.
That said, if you would like to search a particular area for a fun surprise, let us know below!

Her conversation with Kol had been one of the few that hadn't left her feeling like they were all doomed. Not just because he had a natural confidence that she couldn't help but lean into, but because he didn't look at the world the same way as everyone else. It was... refreshing, after so much time spent screaming into the void and he was perhaps the only person (outside of Grizz) who could have lured her into this little game of the Keeper's. ]
Almost didn't recognize you. [ She'd been too polite to mention the
very verypoorly fitting clothes he'd had on when they'd met, but now that she knew it wasn't a fashion choice? She didn't mind poking a little fun. ]It's, ah - [ A grin playing on her lips as she pulls the sleeves down over the palms of her hands. The loose-knit sweater that hung from her slight frame, doing little to shield her from the cold. ] Quite the improvement.

[ kol mock pretends to look surprised as he peers down at himself. of course, the shirt's more fitting—and it's doomed to be destroyed later, somehow. he'd finally gotten hold of something that seemed to be made for his size. it's amazing what looking can accomplish. ]
I'm glad you came. [ he smiles when he looks up at her. at least she isn't holed up in her room, brooding about life and death. although allie doesn't strike him as the type to do that… this is all overwhelming to someone who has never died, especially someone who has never experienced that death isn't quite the end it's perceived to be. ]
Are you any good at photography? We'll need it for our nose-poking.
no subject
She is glad she came, for whatever reason he'd asked her here. ]
I'm a teenager. [ Does that not answer the question of her selfie expertise? ] I know my way around a camera phone. [ Or a tablet in this case. ]
The scavenger hunt. [ It only now fully registers why he'd asked her here and she finds herself both intrigued and surprised. Her head canting to one side as she takes him in, considering Kol in a slightly new light. ] I thought -
[ She can't answer that, however, because she doesn't know. She'd simply assumed he wanted her for something more serious, but she's still not sorry she came. ]
- I, think I can help with that.

[ his eyebrows rise and his voice pitches up, but it's not unkindly. kol's done some acting over the years—both good and bad—and this falls into the former category. he knows exactly what he wants to do and that she's capable of it, no cv or interview required. ]
The Lighthouse Keeper wants us to take a selfie with someone beautiful. [ pursing his lips, he shrugs his shoulders. ] I figure we're both reasonably attractive. Why not blind her with our beauty? Your blonde hair… my sharp jaw…
no subject
Lucky for you we're a team and not in competition.
[ He has successfully managed to draw some enthusiasm from her, however, a light dancing in her blue eyes that hasn't been seen in a long time. ]
Reasonably? [ The soft peal of laughter rising above the crackling of the bonfire. ] Are you sure that we should?
[ He's not the only one who has acted a time or two. ]
I mean, I wouldn't want to overshadow that sharp jaw of yours. [ Little by little the layers stripping away as he successfully helps to alleviate the weight she's been carrying around since New Ham. ]
no subject
although he's smiling, he tells her matter-of-factly, ] It might surprise you, but I can be quite humble.
[ ha. over the last century, he has checked the dictionary for the definition of that word so he can use it accurately. what one won't find underneath that entry is a picture of his face. ]
If that's alright by you, I figure we could give quite lot of people a run for their money. [ he holds his phone out, arm extended in front of him as if he's about to take a picture as he stands. it's all about baiting her—is her bite as good as her bark? ]

[ And yet, despite her words? Allie's teasing tone, widening smile and the look in her eyes would tell him that she doesn't truly mean that. He oozes confidence in the way he carries himself, in every word that passes his lips and even the curve of his smile but she could believe that beneath it all? At the very least there is more to him.
Her gaze trails off as if to make a show of her feigned disinterest. Allie, folding her arms across her chest and rocking back on her heels, all the while watching him out of the corner of her eye. It's the impossible to conceal smile that gives her away, however, and she doesn't leave him hanging for too long before she does in fact take the bait.
There's something so painfully normal about this, that she can almost forget all the reasons she has for not smiling. Her blond, wavy hair spilling over her shoulder and his chest as she sidles up next to him to get in the frame. The smile that touches her lips, not one she has to force as she catches sight of their image on the screen of his device. She was pretty sure that he could take a selfie with a tree and it would still be one of the most attractive photos submitted but she couldn't deny the tiny surge of pleasure that comes with him luring her into this game. ]
I'd say our odds are pretty good. [ Reaching out to help him steady the tablet. ]
no subject
Pretty good?
[ it's clear he questions that.
he allows her to adjust the tablet. kol had been daggered for a century before he'd come to and had quickly learned how to use a cellphone and play video games (and win). taking selfies was part of the curriculum, but he purposefully holds the tablet at a slight angle. he can't be perfect at everything. ]
This is a scavenger hunt. There's no room for "pretty good", love. You're either exceptional or you've lost.
[ or been hunted, which is what he wants to say, but that's probably a bit too much. "lost" sounds far nicer, doesn't it?
purposefully squatting just a little in jest, he declares, ] You're very short.
no subject
She fights a smile at his words, a light flush of color brightening her cheeks at the casual term of endearment. It was the sort of thing he probably said a thousand times to everyone he encountered, but it still did fluttery things to her insides. ]
Or maybe you're just exceptionally tall. [ Raising her eyebrows at him through their displayed image in the preview screen as she nudges him with her shoulder.
He's not. She is. It's all beside the point.
Adjusting the angle, she allows herself a moment to study their image, her smile coming naturally now. Allie having to refocus her attention on the lens before trailing a finger down to tap the screen and take the picture. ]
No one else will even come close. [ Turning her head just so, to arch an eyebrow at him. ] Better?
no subject
he lets her readjust the camera and press the button before he arches a brow, looking at her in the tablet's screen. ]
To your shortness?
[ pursing his lips, he nods. narrowing his eyes for a moment in thought, he then teases, ] You're right. You're quite possibly the shortest person here. Shorter than the shortest spirit—I wonder how he'll take you stealing his crown from right out under him.
no subject
This time. ]
I - [ Gaping at him and reaching across her body to shove him - like... she could actually move him. ] I'm not that short.
[ Right now... mainly because he's ducking down. In reality? She kind of is ]
I'm not even the shortest person here. [ No because there's Mary. Children count, right? ]
no subject
the denials are expected. the shortest person in the room declines to accept that they are the shortest person in the room and usually tries to target other people. kol's surprised she hasn't fiercely grabbed hold of trying to call him abnormally tall.
arching his brow, ] Have you gone around comparing your height to everyone in town?
[ yes, he wants her to feel like that's weird and he'd totally believe she'd do that. crawling under people's skin is his favourite past time when murder isn't on the table. ]
no subject
She considered it but he's not even that tall. ]
What?! [ An incredulous bubble of laughter spills over as she gapes, trying to summon up a solid argument. ] No!
[ Except that when you are usually one of the shortest people in any room, that's the kind of thing you seem to do automatically. ]
I have... eyes. [ Which narrow on him despite the amused grin she's failing to suppress. ] You just want to pick on me.
