He bites back the no that almost spills out and glances over at Soldat, then steps back to have a look at the boat. With another set of hands, they can probably do more than just beat senselessly at ice - maybe find a tarp or spare blanket to cover it and actually keep the ice off. Come spring, if they live that long, they might appreciate having done themselves the favor.

"See if you can get the rudder free," he says. "Might keep it from cracking when all this does finally warm up."
