While talking to somebody casually is about the most anti-catholic thing one could possibly do, Beacon is a place with a lot of new faces and a lot of questions. Many harder to answer than others. He's probably not the authority on how to use a church of a different religion, but he can share his own insight, for what it is worth. "A church is just a space. You can commune with God anywhere -- having a space like this is more of a comfort than a necessity."
