The Soldier is, perhaps surprisingly but perhaps not, a pretty damn good teacher, patient and thorough. They shed another jacket in order to more accurately show body and foot positioning, show the grip with both hands in case Sora is more comfortable with his left, and repeat the slashing motion in slow motion multiple times.
All they're doing now is the new grip and one motion, but they make the kid practice it until he has perfect form and can do it at speed five times in a row.
