Because, well. The kid (young man? still not entirely sure, though he looks younger closer up) doesn't seem to talk to anyone. Doesn't seem to have anyone to ask that. The Soldier, somehow, has more people than it knows what to do with asking if it's okay after the hallucinations and everything. And while that's a little overwhelming if it thinks too hard about it, there's also something comforting in it.
