[ he can hold his breath for far longer than most people would think. he was trained to be more than adept at things like this-- holding your breath, keeping your body in check, the only part that makes this difficult is that there is a pitch darkness, and so many different directions the seeds could have went.
he has to feel the current, to some extent, and then wonder... where would he find them if they hadn't drifted out to sea.
it gives him a rough area that is basically back of the envelope calculations. he's not the robin to speak to when you need advanced scientific and natural phenomenon calculations.
but it does give him a win when he's able to get a pack of five-- tied together.
