margarita mixer mingle mlog

characters: eliot waugh, and YOU
location: the invincible, bar area
date/time: sept 26, what constitutes eliot's evening, but whatever time it would be for everyone else
content: eliot has way too much tequila and wants to share some of his delicious extra aƱejo gold with all of you. with a little friendly negotiation, he's taken over the bar and is mixing up drinks for anyone who shows up. kid friendly options available. also there is homemade chips, queso, salsa, and even pan de muertos because eliot's an overachiever. buen provecho!

also there's probably going to be a lime shortage after this until the next ship arrives.
warnings: alcohol, probably some language

Wait, is this a. Party? At The Invincible? Who? What? Why?

Unfortunately, there is no announcement. There aren't even any invitations. It all seems to get set up in the span of minutes, and now there's clearly some sort of fiesta going on. That's all to plan though. See, as an experienced party thrower, Eliot knows no one's actually invited to a good party. The right people just show up, and the rest is history.

So come on over! Have a seat! The smell of fresh food and lime beckons!

THE BAR

Eliot's stationed behind the bar counter, waiting to mix on order whatever you request. Obviously the special today is margaritas, and he's highly recommending it, especially since he's using the good stuff that Beacon seems to have no idea exists, but if you really want to order something else, he'll comply. You filthy heathen.

There are also spirits helping him serve up drinks, but even though he taught them how to make a proper marg, it seems like they're not at all as good at mixing as Eliot is.

Along the bar are various, colorful bowls filled with homemade chips that Eliot whipped up earlier in the day. The bowls are even charmed to keep the chips toasty for so that you don't have to worry about a sad, cold chip! Dipping options include a few varieties of salsa, a refreshing guacamole blend, and a hearty queso.

SEATING AREA

The entire area is decorated in colorful streamers and paper crafts, reminscent of a Mexican festival. Some of the tables have paper-craft skulls colored to look like sugar skulls and there are even a few delicious loaves of pan de muertos waiting to be devoured. "But Eliot! It's not October yet!" No, it's not, but his margarita party is now! Enjoy it anyway!

Of course there are also tables here with chips and your choices of dip. Have at it! He can't possibly eat all these as leftovers, and Quentin doesn't need even more snacks in his diet.

There are some coloring sheets left out on a couple tables too, with markers and crayons available if anyone wants to color any. Eliot thought about using paper cutouts of sugar skulls as decorations before he figured out his paper-craft. While he decided against them, coloring them in might be entertaining for someone else.

Would you also like to make your own paper-craft skull? Well, then lucky you! There are also stencils traced onto paper and (safety) scissors for you to cut them out with. You'll find that they have a tab that slots into a slit to keep it all together without any tape. How fancy is that?

(( this is a mingle log! feel free to make you own top-levels and tag around! eliot is available at the bar for chatting and orders. ))

[don't mind if he do! except...]

What exactly is this?

[he's open to trying new booze but ease him into it, his wine repertoire is already weak]

Seating area
[While he was technically invited for this, and thus came prepared, parties are not and have never been Quentin's favorite place to be. So, he's holed up in a corner, sitting crossed-legged on his chair with his lantern nailed to the wall behind him for reading light. There's a book in his hands and paper plate of snacks perched in the table to his left and a glass with just a few mouthful's of Margarita left in it.

He is very much giving off vibes of 'I'm not even here', even if he does look up every time the door opens or someone passes close by his table, hoping to find some of the people he kind of knows already or finish this book. Which ever comes first.]

[ There's a good few of them who don't reside at the Invincible or in the cabins of the village, Riku, he and his friends took up residence at the boathouse, a little ramshackle shack near the docks the ferry comes to each month. One by one, they disappeared or died or went off somewhere, so it's just him now.

And the boathouse has no plumbing. Since the first day he got here, Riku's been a regular at the Invincible but not in the way anyone might expect - he finds an unoccupied room, whether there's a true vacancy or the owner is just out - and helps himself to the shower.

Every day, unless he's out on some exploration. The timing this time just so happens to make it feel like he's emerging into a totally changed Invincible, a party already starting as he edges into the main bar area out of the hall, his hair still damp and eyes wary.

This isn't even his scene, to start with, he's more introverted than his friends had been, only seemed cool and aloof because he was too awkward to go chatting strangers up. It's not to say an effort won't be made for the sake of community - but he's likely to be the guy handing water to (and watching over) anyone who's eventually had too much to drink. ]

[First of all, he'd better not be using her showers, the little shit, because if she finds silver hair in her bathroom it's all over.

Second of all: they can at least bond over being bewildered by the Invincible. This is a lot to walk into after a day in the lab, when all she'd really had in mind was settling in with a good book and some supper.

She still takes a table, and, after some thought, one single drink. Perhaps she's becoming a bit reliant on them, but so it goes. She's dead, anyway, it's not like it matters. But so: she takes up watching the party, and as she does, she notices him, of course.]

Why is it at every party we've been to, you constantly assign yourself the role of waiter?

[Come here, water boy. Rosalind beckons as she calls that out.]

[It's Crowley.

He is an avid partier. He likes all the fun bits of a party, especially the drinking bit. He'll take the dancing and debauchery, too, but only on his own terms. Right now, find him at a table with a margarita, sitting across from his favorite angel, who was subsequently dragged out to this for his own good.

They couldn't just be cooped up in the cabin drinking wine all of the time, even though that's basically what they've been doing with their lives for the last few centuries or so.]

So they can't find decent wine, but someone managed to come up with a bit of sour mix for these?

[ It wasn't like Aziraphale hadn't enjoyed a good party in his life, but he wasn't in the mood for one tonight. He'd been dragged out of the house by Crowley, and so here he is, wondering what it is he wants. ]

One margarita and-- ah, what do you recommend?

[ Vanitas doesn't mingle, and he certainly hasn't made any sort of active effort to do it since he suddenly and abruptly found himself alone. But then, Vanitas has spent most of his existence alone. The only difference now was that instead of it being forced on him by the Master that abandoned him in the desert, he was constantly surrounded by people reminding him of exactly what he is:

nothing like them.

But he needs to fill his days with something. Usually, it's laying listlessly in his bed upstairs or curled up on the trapdoor of the Church— but today something is happening in the pub so Vanitas wends his way down to check it out.

It's some kind of party, that much is clear, but he doesn't bother asking what it's about. Instead, his eyes go directly to the food and Vanitas makes a beeline for the pan de muertos. So he can be found loitering at the bar, stuffing his face with sugar while his Unversed perches on the stool he isn't sitting on, holding his black-flame lantern. ]

Does it taste good?

[It sure looks like it tastes good. But she's not allowed to have the fancy adult drinks. Still, hello, she's helping herself to a seat at their table. She goes here, now.

She's very bold. And besides, I owed you a thread.]

[Here comes Mary to join (ruin?) the fun.

A girl on a mission, she crawls her way between the barstools, trying to catch her victim by surprise! She's doing her best not to trip over her skirt as she does so, and puts her finger to her lips in a shh gesture as she catches sight of the Unversed. Don't! Blow! Her cover!]

[ Mostly she's lucky Vanitas isn't looking down— but then, why would he be doing that to begin with? It's not like he's expecting someone to be crawling between the barstool legs to get at him. And depsite his constant hyper-vigilance, maybe the very fact there's enough noise and people in the room for Vanitas to expect some people to brush past him stop him from noticing when Mary is almost on him.

In fact, he's looking the opposite direction, pulling bread apart between his fingers and watching Eliot pour a drink. His Unversed watches Mary, unblinking because it doesn't have any eyelids, but when it tilts it's head the lantern leans with it and tinkles gently. ]

[ No sooner than Riku's turned away from where he'd planted down a bottle of water for someone who was probably already dozing off one or two too many margaritas, he hears her. It jostles a puff of laughter out of him, his head shakes because it doesn't matter if this is the second such party, he's been called out on his habit of taking care of strangers. ]

Should've known you couldn't resist.

[ A mild tease, considering how they met. Riku approaches. So much has happened, so much has changed since the wake. It's almost all new faces if he takes a quick glance around. ]

The drinks are free.

They are. And yet somehow, you content yourself with water.

[Not that that's a bad thing. Not that he ought to sink into vices. But she's honestly a little surprised he hasn't in some form or another, simply by virtue of living here.]

Are you going to hop to on my orders if I ask you to fetch me cigarettes, or do you only do water?

[Crowley looks over the rim of his glass at what appears to be a child who has joined them.

Crowley, for all of his asinine behavior and gruffness, likes children. They're the pinnacle of human innocence. There's something different about this one, he can't quite put his finger on what it is, though.]

Come to enjoy the party, have you?
originallutece: for like .3 seconds (arrogant; pretending at modesty)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-10-01 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Are you truly complaining?

[She would honestly prefer to be cooped up drinking wine, but so it goes when you live above a bar. So here she is, sipping a margarita with a slight face, like it's somewhat offended her.

At least the company isn't entirely loathsome, though. She takes a seat, one leg crossing over the other.]

You're not obligated to be here, you realize.

Someone's gotta stay sharp.

[ Riku will get around to having one of those drinks eventually - he can smell the limes, the citrus reminds him of home, and there's been too little fresh fruit in his diet for months for him to pass up a taste.

Just... in moderation. A metabolism like his works fast. He's not one to turn to a substance to cope - but to have one in a social setting like this? Riku knows it can make it a little easier to join the party, to socialize. It just greases the wheels. ]

Water only, ma'am.

[ There's an empty seat, Riku helps himself to it. ]

Thanks for your help. Will's got the message ready to go for when the next ferry arrives.
sauntered_downward: (why are you doing this)

[personal profile] sauntered_downward 2019-10-01 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Complaining, no. Stating fact, yes.

[he holds up his own margarita]

If they can make this, then I should be able to get something better than a table red in this place.
originallutece: (talk; cover your crystal eyes)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-10-01 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not play bartender, then? Or is it more the opposition's habit to turn water into decent wine?

[Ha ha, she make joke. There's a slight edge to her smile, because Crowley's proven himself someone who will push back, and she always likes that.
sauntered_downward: (oh really now)

[personal profile] sauntered_downward 2019-10-01 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Crowley's lips twist up into a smile.]

The opposition just turns everything into a moderate red. Absolutely nothing decent.

Though they can make a decent merlot.
originallutece: awful tough lately (talk; you've been acting)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-10-01 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope it works.

[At least a little. She hasn't much faith in it, but it's certainly better than the nothing that was there before.]

Either way: I appreciated the project. It's pleasant to have something to do around here.

Are you going to huff if I ask you a direct question?

It's something for now. Can always add to it later.

[ A direct question? There is a huff, except it's more like a soft and embarrassed laugh. Is he really that... difficult? ]

Depends on the question.

Gimme your best shot.
originallutece: (talk; i feel numb most of the time)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-10-01 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you here?

[It's not unfriendly. Just very, very direct, as she takes a moment to sip at her drink.]

You don't care for spirits, and that's perfectly fine. But those intoxicated are rarely pleasant company, and you aren't getting paid to hand out water. But you do. You tend to those who are too far gone, and I'd be willing to bet if someone needed to be walked home, you'd do it.

Why?
originallutece: a flying cityyyy? (talk; do you want to build)
